Bye, BeautyBlender!

By sssadison

from California

Comments about Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge:

This sponge is amazing. It is very soft and feels very much like the original beauty blender, while costing less than half the price! Works well both wet or dry. When I want lighter coverage, I wet the sponge the way I would with a beauty blender. When I want full coverage, I just use the sponge dry. Provides flawless application of both liquid or powder face products. Only con so far is that it does seem to absorb a bit more of the product than the beauty blender does, but not enough to be bothersome.

Good alternative to the beauty blender, especially for the price. The shape makes it really easy to blend under the eyes. I recommend getting it wet before using it because it starts off a little stiff.

Using it to blend a stick foundation, cream concealer and a powder contour/highlight. blends everything so well when damp! i might be wringing it out too hard when i clean it, as there are little tears on the "pointy" side only after one day of use. try and be gentle!

Comments about Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge:

I really like the versatility of the sponge. the flat surface really allows you to use the sponge to smooth on your foundation or any other type of liquid but you can also dab it on like the original beauty blender. I prefer to smooth it on because it feels more natural and I get a very smooth complexion. Also, another major win is that I think this absorbs less of your product and leaving more of it on your skin so that's huge.

My first beauty blender was the high-end one, so I didn't like this product for my own personal use. I found that it did not blend my makeup well, infact it barely moved my concealer. It does work, but not to my standards as I went from high-end to this product. If you are going from a brush or a lower-end drug store sponge, you will like it! But if you're a high-end beauty blender user- do not make the switch!

                Hi Alexis,

These sponges are very soft. While it's hard to describe a level of softness online, I would say they are a bit firmer than a marshmallow, but still very squishy! :)

But yes, they are quite soft!

                A:

                Hi AAA,

I think you asked one of the best questions I've gotten! :)

The Miracle Complexion Sponge is our #1 best selling item, mainly because it is so unbelievably versatile with what you can with it. We love our brushes around here, and we don't feel that a look is complete without them; however, that sponge is pretty unique.

One of the main differences is that you can use the sponge either wet or dry, depending on the look you want to get (which you can't really do with brushes). You can also use the various side of the sponge to contour & highlight, apply blush, apply concealer - you name it, you can pretty much do it with the sponge.

I would definitely tell you to check out the video tutorial on the sponge on Ulta.com (link here: http://www.ulta.com/miracle-complexion-sponge?productId=xlsImpprod5960824).

Hope that helps - i think you will find that, if you buy it, it's one tool that you just didn't know how you lived without!

Hi, I've just started using this product and have found it absorbs some of my foundation rather than blending it - is there a way to avoid this? Thanks

                A:

                Hi H,

Thanks for your question. I'm not sure how you are applying your foundation, but if you're using liquid foundation, our experts recommend that you slightly dampen the sponge before use. You also will want to use lighter, sweeping motions, which will blend the product along the surface area of your face. Pressing the sponge hard on your face may cause more absorption overall.

All in all, brushes and sponges will absorb a small amount of the product, just by their very nature; but overall, you shouldn't find that it's absorbing a significant amount.

                Thanks. Hope that helps.

                A:

                Hi Liz,

Great question. You will want to make sure you clean the sponge thoroughly; you can use either our Real Techniques Gel Cleanser (Ulta Item 2291546), or our eco-friendly cleanser from EcoTools (Ulta Item 2297645).

After washing, make sure all excess moisture is squeezed out from the sponge. Store it out in the open so it can air dry. I usually place it on my soap dish or on a dry wash cloth.

Depending on how often you use it, make sure you replace it every 60-90 days.

                Thanks!

                Hi emsweets,

We LOVE questions like this - cleaning your brushes & tools is *so important*! Real Techniques makes a brush cleanser that you can use to clean your Miracle Sponge. It's Ulta Item 2291546 and is specifically formulated for makeup brushes & sponges.

Simply wet your sponge, apply a dime-sized drop of the cleansing solution onto the sponge and work into the sponge thoroughly. Like with your favorite shampoo, "rinse & repeat". Do this until your sponge is clean, then make sure to squeeze any excess moisture out of the sponge and allow it to air dry out in the open.

You can also use a gentle baby shampoo on this too.

                Thanks!

                A:

                Hi Tate,

There are certain situations where that phrase "you get what you pay for" is true. I don't think this is one of them. Our Miracle Complexion Sponge is, without a doubt, our most popular item in the Real Techniques line not only because it's affordable, but also because it is high quality.

One of the reasons I would probably recommend going with the Miracle Complexion sponge is its affordability. Because of the porous nature of these sponges, you will want to change it out every 90 days or so, based on how you use it. If it was something you bought once every year, a splurge might be the way to go - but because you will need to replace it pretty often, your wallet might like it better if you went with the Miracle Sponge.

And, you can also buy our Twin Pack Miracle Complexion Sponge and save a few bucks (Ulta Item #2284068)!

If you do a search for Beauty Blender vs Miracle Sponge on Google or YouTube, you will probably find a lot of people saying that the Miracle Sponge is the way to go. I tend to agree with them! :)

                Thanks!

                Hi makeupobsession,

This Miracle Sponge is one of the best, most multi-tasking product we make, and I love when people ask questions about it! :)

The answer is yes - it will work really well for blending a contoured look. It will also actually be great for applying the contour directly to the hollows of your cheek. If you check out the video on the Miracle Complexion Sponge page on Ulta.com, there is a video tutorial by one of the makeup artists who helped us create this item. At the 1:27 mark, she shows how to apply blush with the sponge, which you could copy for your contour product.

                Hope that helps!!

                A:

                Hi Alivia!

We LOVE that you love the Miracle Complexion Sponge!! It is such an amazing product, isn't it?! :)

That is fantastic that you are so conscious of cleaning it - using clean tools is so key to getting the most out of them! I would probably recommend cleaning it after each use, so the product that you've used doesn't have a chance to soak in to the sponge.

Make sure, also, that you put it on a little tray or towel in the open air to dry it, too - that's key to extending the life of the sponge.

If you use your sponge on a daily or somewhat regular basis, we recommend replacing it every 60-90 days. Since it sounds like you're taking such good care of it, you could probably go about every 90 days!

Thanks so much - hope that helps!
