Most Helpful Positive Review Works great on short straight hair! I have fine straight hair that is naturally stick straight without any product. I originally bought this with the intention of creating texture while air drying my long, mid-back-length hair. However, it didn't seem to either provide volume or texture which was disappointing. However, after I cut my hair short (just above my chin), I decided to give it another go. I dispense one pump in my palms and apply to towel-dried hair. I rake the product through my hair with my fingers and then lightly scrunch afterwards. I then leave my hair as is to airdry while the strands are still lightly wet and naturally stuck together. My chin-length hair when dried looks piecey and separated, but not noticeably too voluminous or thick, which was exactly what I was looking for! Even though my hair looks straight after air drying, the ends look separated and beachier which is exactly what I was going for. I sometimes follow up with the Kristen Ess beach wave spray afterwards for a piecier, textured look. So glad I was able to make this product work for me; highly recommend for anyone looking to add more texture to their short fine hair! Also, to address a previous comment, I didn't find the smell to be noticeably obvious- it didn't smell neither good or bad to me.
Most Helpful Critical Review For Some, But Not All Hair I always like to switch to a mousse come summer, and in the South humidity is your nemesis. I thought I'd give this a try since I've used the volume mousse from Kristin Ess (I love the smell and the vegan ethics behind the brand!) and loved that. I wanted to find a mousse that cut down drying time and didn't need a diffuser... so I can sleep in. Beauty rest is important. Here's where things went wrong for me. I have thick hair. I get regular highlights. I use heat to style my hair 50% of the time. So needless to say my curly hair loves and needs moisture, and there is obvious damage. If you have any damage on your hair, avoid this product. I used it in conjunction with my leave-in conditioner and this mousse still dried out my hair enough to create a ring of frizz on top of my head. This should be a lightweight mousse for tousled waves, but my hair is far to heavy for this weak formula. Oddly enough, most of my curls pulled out during the drying process. So If you're all about that waterfall of curls cascading down your back... this product just isn't going to cut it. It's lightweight and really designed for short to mid-range hair lengths with minimal damage. If you're au natural about your hair- give this a try. I think there's a certain audience that will love this product. But I need a serious product for serious curls... and this just isn't the solution.

My hair LOVES sea salt! It makes my stringy waves much more full and fluffy. Better than sea salt spray. This sea salt mousse genuinely gives me beach babe hair ! I don't use any other product either. I air dry with this alone and refresh with it too! If you have dry hair, you maybe want to use leave in conditioner first or an rub a lil oil over your strands after a few days. I just LOVE this!

this mousse can even hold waves
Amazing structure for fine, wavy hair! 5
Kristi from Maine
I got this at the Ulta hair sale and I rarely write reviews (of course) but had to tell you that this product exceeded my expectations! I have fine, aging, blonde (both highlights and lowlights) hair that is also kinda wavy. I like to let my natural wave show when I've washed but don't plan on straightening for a few days. Prior to using this, anything I've added to "hold" the waves in was either crunchy or weighed my hair down or left a ton of residue that meant I need to wash more frequently. This stuff is amazing and my waves actually appear MORE wavy but so light and it smells amazing too! The next day, I can use the Kristin Ess water product and a little more of this and voila: another great hair day. I highly recommend and would buy again - even at full price!
Adds great texture and volume. 4
Christina980 from NJ
my hair is pretty thick, wavy in the back and straight in the front. Using this adds overall texture and volume without a hairdryer. It doesn't give my straight parts super wave, but it does give it some bend and texture. The waves in the back are more defined. This product is great for days I just don't want to style my hair, but still feel put together.
Not good for curly hair 1
Ok from VA
This was not good for my curly hair. Each day I'd try a larger gob but it really just can't control the curls. It was friZzy instead of curly.

This is amazing! 5

This is truly perfection for me. I hate feeling like I have a lot of gunk in my hair... this creates texture and hold without stickiness or stiffness. The trick with this particular line of Kristen Ess products is to use them while your hair is really wet. Like, sopping, just out of the shower wet. I have fine, bra strap length slightly wavy hair (more of a bend than a wave) and three pumps on the mid-to ends and one pump on my roots down adds the perfect amount of texture and accentuates the wave. And if you spray with water on the second day it reactivates. Also, every time I've gone into work with it still a little damp I've had multiple people ask what perfume I was wearing because it smelled so good.
Great for natural waves 5
CC from Michigan
I have very thick, very dense, low porosity hair. This is one of the only products that I can use to enhance my natural wave pattern without being too heavy on my hair. The smell is pretty neutral to me, it's easy to cover up if you don't like it.
Yes! 4

It gives more texture to my bleached hair and it looks smoother
Read the instructions! 5
Rita from Virginia Beach
If you follow the instructions, you will not notice any stickiness or residue in your hair whatsoever. You must be using way too much or applying to dry hair! I don't notice an unusual smell either, typical sea salt product smell. I prefer this over a spray since I find it distributes more evenly. Just read the instructions and you'll love this!

I love this product 5

No crunch and it holds wonderful. I love the fact that it's a foam and I don't have to use a handful for my wavy hair.
My hair loves salt 4
sheba from TN
I love a mousse or foam for my 2a/b high porosity super fine high density waves. I wanted to try this as a one and done styler. My waves love all things salt, I did struggle with day hair without rewetting
Leaves a sticky, salty film on hair 1
Missy13 from Bay Area, CA
I really wanted to love this as I had read positive reviews on the website, but it's terrible. I have fine, colored, non-porous, 2b-2c waves that usually respond well to anything that doesn't have glycerin in it. I followed the instructions exactly (shampoo and conditioner, detangle hair, wait a few minutes for curls pattern to start forming them scrunch in a golfball size of mousse) I did not continue to scrunch as it dried because I know that if I play with my hair too much I'll ruin the curl clumps and get a bunch of frizz instead. The product left a sticky, oily, salty film on my hair that felt so icky, I had to wash my hands every time I touched it. My waves were even at first, but a few hours later they were already falling out and looking really stringy. My waves look much better when I just use a basic detangler and leave them alone :( I pineapple my hair at night; for second day hair I usually rake a pick through it and end up with beachy waves; with this sea salt mousse my hair was still flat, greasy and stringy. I'm not sure who this kind of product would be good for... it's just a weird mix of sea salt and oil. Back it goes to Ulta.
Smells awful 1
Jar from Oregon
I used a pea sized amount just to test this out- but I had to wash my hair again right after using. It smells like men's deodorant. It was awful. If you are sensitive to smells, this is not the product for you. It didn't seem to help curl either.
