Upgrade to the Velcro Roller

While I'm pretty low maintenance in my day-to-day appearance (no shade to the high maintenance folks, I appreciate your skill!) I usually like to try things and enjoy "getting ready". I have tried velcro rollers a few times over the years and like most things they have their pros & cons (lightweight..., airflow, bangs, travel vs potential to tangle, slipping). I have found that prep and hair type/ length is important. For reference, I have hair that is on the finer side with some slight wave/body and lots of it so that's the experience I can speak to. I have tried this brand a few times before and I liked their stuff; I was excited to see their take on these curlers and specifically intrigued by the ceramic addition. It seemed like a marked improvement from previous generations that were just plastic or had metal. My hair is incredibly long right now and I am planning to cut it soon. I prefer to use velcro rollers when my hair is shorter (right above my chest, still considered long, I know) so I chose the 4 pack in terracotta (more rose-colored btw) to start (jumbo sizes). If you've never used velcro rollers before, definitely watch a video because making sure your hair is prepped (polished, combed in the same direction, neat) and rolled correctly is always important with any curling technique. It really will make or break your results (and help with removing them without torturing your hair). Full disclosure: I am not generally a polished hair person. If I'm blowdrying my hair, I am not doing section by section, I am not using round brushes, and I am not winning any awards for form. I'm head-flipped (a volumizing product on my roots & heat protectant) and pure chaos for 3 or 4 mins. I usually clip it up with a claw-clip at the roots, do something, come back to it for a few minutes and repeat as needed. For me, that's where these come in. I use 2 or 3 on my face framing pieces (set like a mohawk) after I have dried my hair. I twist the rest of my hair into a loose bun and claw clip it up behind the mohawk at my crown. I do all this when my hair is still warm and I have brushed and smoothed it a bit. It gives me a more of a round- brush blowout look. (I saw another approach where you basically set-it under your hair horizontally, or perpendicular to your part, and your hair sets at a higher angle. I am going to try that next.) I have tried giving my hair a quick shot of heat from the blowdryer with velcro rollers are in the past and I feel like that's when the tangling happens for me. Which is the reason I like these, I gave them a quick shot of heat before rolling each one into my hair. The ceramic and my hair were both warm and then as they cooled, they set in my hair. I really like the result! The directions say you can use them on damp hair and use a blow dryer but I have never had velcro success that way and my hair is so long that I didn't attempt. TL;DR: The ceramic adds to these rollers and allows the hair to "set". I find them the most useful for adding volume but the box says smoothing for shorter haired folks. Make sure your hair is properly prepped to avoid tangles. Anyone using a round brush dryer or curling system who is looking to set the blow-out look or for those with bangs, may find these very useful! I also really like that this is a woman-owned company that uses recycled materials. (I've included a picture for the side of the box that was not included and for size reference.)
