This is one of my favorite mascaras. Sometimes I run out and rely more on one of my other mascaras (hey, I need to have options!). Then I run into Ulta and spot this and forget why I quit using it. The mascara isn't water proof (but they offer waterproof mascaras), but it lasts all day on me for an average day. Some of my days end up being more than just an 8 hour work day - it recently lasted 9 hours of work, plus a quick dinner out, then 3 hours of a training. I expected it to smudge a little, but no problems! I never have issues with smudging for me, unless I rub my eyes a ton or my allergies are in full force.
My skin (and eyes) are somewhat sensitive - not the most sensitive out there, but more so than most of my friends. I have no issues with this mascara, and have been using it on and off for several years now. I love that one quick coat can give a better than natural look, or you can build it up. If you do build it up (which I always do), I love that it doesn't get stiff or flaky. It rarely clumps for me, but when it does, a quick brush through with a lash brush fixes it (this happens if I apply a ton, and again, not often).
Even though it lasts all day on me, it easily washes off with my normal face cleanser (Boscia's Makeup Breakup or an Amore Pacific face wash). I also like that Tarte is a brand with more natural ingredients - okay, it's not all natural and it's not saving the world, but it's a good move if you're looking to start getting into more natural ingredients (also worth noting that natural doesn't necessarily mean better, more effective, or free of irritants!). I know that you're supposed to trash your mascara after 3 months, but since I don't use the same one every day, I never do. If I did use this every day, I think it would last a little over 3 months (I gave a friend a travel size tube I got in a gift set and she has been using it for at least 2 months - she's a blonde and I don't think that the black is too harsh on her at all).
Lights, Camera, Lashes works really well with Tarte's primer but also works well without it (I just find that the primer gives a little more oomph!). It holds a curl nicely, and thickens without huge clumps and adds length. The length isn't very dramatic, but again, you can build it up if you like. My lashes are decently long, and if I build it up too much without letting it dry, I end up with smudges on my glasses and occasionally under my eye brows.
I have tested several different mascaras this week. My goal is to find a gluten-free,paraben free mascara that performs as well as Blinc mascara (Blinc is awesome, but contains parabens, so it's time to move it out of my makeup bag). So, among those I tried from the Tarte line were Lights, Camera, Flashes AND Lights, Camera, Lashes. I am sorry to say that both were unacceptably clumpy and flaky. The newer "Flashes" version turned out to be even clumpier/flakier than the "Lashes" version. A positive was that both mascaras definitely stayed put and didn't smudge. That's very good news for those of us with oily eyes. However, the clumpiness and flakiness are show stoppers for me. I tried using a lash primer (Clinique) but it didn't help. I even purchased a metal lash comb and tried combing out the clumps, but that wasn't effective either. To be extra sure before making a final judgment, I tried both of these products for two days each, and got the same result each time. These are fresh, right-off-the-shelf from Ulta, so I don't expect they'd get any better with age. I will be returning both mascaras. I have moved on to Too-Faced Lash Injection, and have had much better results.

I have short, fairly straight eyelashes. I like a natural look, so I want my mascara to give definition, thickness, and length, without looking clumpy or fake.
I keep trying other brands just because I enjoy trying new things, and you never know if you're going to find your new favorite product, So I rarely stick with one thing long-term when it comes to any of my beauty products… But I keep coming back to this one. It is just the best mascara for my eyelashes. It adds so much while still looking very natural. It also doesn't tend to flake or smudge. I'll keep trying new things just because… But I doubt I'll ever totally walk away from this. It is one of the few products that would slightly devastate me if they discontinued it. :)

I bought this specifically for the reason I needed a mascara that DOES NOT FLAKE! Within 2 hours of wearing this there were flakes under my eyes and in my eye and I had to remove my contacts immediately! So disappointing!
Jaime from Charleston SC
Love this mascara! Amazing mascara, especially for being cruelty free and vegan!

I'm very picky about mascara and I've tried lots from Dior, tarte, urban decay, benefit, etc. I'm impressed with this mascara. It holds curl/length and doesn't smudge. I will probably try the waterproof in the future and will definitely buy this product again.

I am always looking for a good mascara. I have very sparse lashes that are super straight. I also have very hooded eyes so I typically wear waterproof mascara. I have tried Big Ego and liked it, but it didn't wear well. I tried the travel size of this and instant lift! really separates and coats. My lashes held a curl. but after a couple hours, it flakes and smudges. Transfers on the upper lid. It's a shame because I really did like how this applies.

it's a good product, a little clumpy

I bought this mascara when it was on sale. I thought I'd give it a try but it did not hold up It flakes off very easily. I have actually used better drugstore brands than this one. If I use a primer on my eyelashes it seems to stay a little better and I can get a half a day wear out of it. I probably won't purchase this one again.

Not sure if I got a bunk tube or not. The product was either dried up or mostly empty. Was almost as if nothing was transferring to my lashes. Went back to my fav, bad girl bang. Super bummed. Was looking forward to finding a good waterproof with this style brush and good quality that tarte usually is

This doesn't give me the "oomph" that you'd want when going out for the night, a special occasion, or date. However, it goes on without clumps, makes my lashes look longer and thicker for the day time. It doesn't bleed off or give me raccoon eyes after a 17 hour operating room nursing shift.

I bought this half off with the summer/fall beauty event. I'd been using urban decays perversion for awhile and thought I'd give this a try since it was on sale. It was drier and didn't volumize nearly as much. Disappointed.
Mari from Kentucky
After using for the third time, it immediately started clumping.

I bought the mini on a whim by the register with little expectations. This is now my favorite mascara. It adds length AND thickness and does not clump or smudge. I'm ordering the full size right now.
Djb from Louisville, KY
Gives thickening and length. Can use on bottom lashes with no Raccoon eyes.

I received a free trial size of this mascara. I was really excited to try it on as I love Tarte products. Sadly, this one was virtually unnoticeable on my eye lashes. It honestly looks like I am not even wearing any mascara, even after multiple applications. I paired it w/ lash primer and then had to put on 3 coats to even cover the lash primer. I most definitely would not recommend buying this product. It doesn't lengthen, volumize, color my lashes... nothing. I can only tell that there is product on my lashes when I use eye make-up remover and see black on the pad I was using to remove it. Very disappointing from this brand.

I've been trying to find a good mascara so randomly grabbed this… and Like other people said, this product seriously weighed my lashes down. Made them clumpy. Lengthened a bit but not a ton. Not worth it. I like the Lancôme idole and the benefit lift and curling mascara way more

I tried this mascara in the past and it was my favorite. Coming back to it after trying other formulas, the mascara feels hard to work with. It's an extremely wet formula which makes it easy to smear around the eyes. Whenever I apply this, it leaves a streak of mascara by my lash line, no matter how careful I am. I also find it was hard to make it not clumpy. And, because of the wet formula, it seemed to weigh down my lashes and not hold a curl as much as others have. If curl/volume and separation are important to you, I would probably go with something else. Maybe would be better when the tube got dryer, but sadly it's not my favorite now.

This has been one of my favorites. I get very dry eyes and this was helpful for not contributing to that. It works very well and did what it's supposed to do.

I was a little disappointed in this mascara. Didn't do anything for my eyelashes. I am glad that I got it on sale.

The mascara is super flakey and weighed my lashes down. So disappointing
JTucci from Mars, PA
This is my favorite mascara. It applies easily without clumping and stays put all day. It's jet black and defines your lashes intensely.

Limp Wimpy doesn't last not worth the $

Realy like the brush and the mascara. My current fave

I've tried a lot of different mascara for my short eyelashes, and this one is by far the best!! I love it!!!
KB from Florida
Express application, but lashes will be thick quickly. Was easy to remove with soap and water.

I purchased this for the first time and loved it, but the second purchase I noticed the purple cover was different (matte instead of glittery like the first one and in the how to video) I don't care at all about the cover, but now I don't think that's all they changed because it burns and makes my eyes sting ALL THE TIME. It also doesn't go on as well and is very hard to not get clumpy.
I never had issues with my eyes stinging or the clumping from this mascara before. I really loved this mascara the first time I bought it. Something is definitely different about it now. So disappointed.
