Comments about Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge:

This is my favorite beauty sponge! I have purchased this now twice and it still does not disappoint. It becomes big when wet and extremely easy to clean. The only this is that there is a bit of staining of foundation if you are of medium-deep complextions but it does not personally bother me. For sanitary purposes (and because of my cat), I buy one of these every six months. I love makeup but on a budget and this product is one of my holy grails.

Comments about Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge:

I used to love RT sponges but their quality has gotten pretty bad! I bought 2 sponges a month ago and they are now FULL of rips (a face one and the giant body one). Please keep in mind that I have perioral dermatitis so I barely wear make up to avoid flare ups. I've used these sponges at least 6 times and they are trashed and I'm not a raccoon when it comes to taking care of my things. Super disappointed, I'd rather spend the 20 bucks on a beauty blender because I know the quality is better and it won't have rips harboring bacteria (within a month)

WHY oh why did you guys change the product material? I used to love these so much and I bought several more recently only to find out they're not anything like the old sponges. They used to be soft, now they're firm and dense and work terribly. The difference was noticeable as soon as I touched it! Will you ever go back to the old (way better) material?

Hi there, I'm so sorry you're not having the same amazing experience with our sponges. I've spoken to our Product Development team and they have said they haven't changed the formula drastically. They also did tell me that each batch of sponges can be a lot like a batch of cookies - there may be slight differences in each one, but it sounds like you're experiencing something different. I will share your comments with the team as well. Thanks so much for letting us know.

                      Hi BMW,

We get this question a lot, so you are definitely not alone. I think you might like the level of coverage you get with our Miracle Complexion Sponge. You can use the sponge dry for fuller coverage, or wet it (and squeeze out excess water) to get a slightly less-full, more dewy look.

The one thing to note with a sponge - these do need to be cleaned every week to two weeks and then replaced every 60-90 days since they're porous. But they're really inexpensive, so no one seems to mind that at all!

                      Thanks!

                      Hi Maddi,

Great Question!! :) A lot of it depends on how often you are using your Miracle Sponge, and how much makeup you typically wear. We recommend that you wash your sponge at least once a week with makeup shampoo (make sure you also squeeze out any excess water and let it dry in an open, cool, dry place).

If you're a heavy makeup wearer, we would recommend replacing between 30-60 days. If you're on the lighter makeup side, we would recommend replacing every 60-90 days.

And obviously if it seems really dirty and gross, make sure you replace it asap! :)

                      Hope that helps!

I bought this recently because of all of the good reviews. How come when I use it, I don't get great coverage like everyone else is? It just feels like i need to keep reapplying more foundation, which is of course not good. I pump my fenty foundation on the back of my hand, dot on my face, and then try to blend. Am I doing something wrong?

                      A:

                      Hi Jasmine,

Thanks for your question. Our experts recommend that you slightly dampen the sponge before use. You also will want to use lighter, sweeping motions, which will blend the product along the surface area of your face. Pressing the sponge hard on your face may cause more absorption overall.

All in all, brushes and sponges will absorb a small amount of the product, just by their very nature; but overall, you shouldn't find that it's absorbing a significant amount.

To be perfectly honest, I'm much more of a fan of using brushes, rather than sponges, just because I think I get better coverage with brushes. There are so many people who love their sponge, but I'm one of those who will pick up a brush any day!

                      Thanks. Hope that helps.

                      Hi Stevie,

Great question! So, the sponge is made from polyurethane foam, which cannot usually be recycled, but I would recommend a quick call to your local recycling center. They may allow that type of material to be recycled.

                      Thanks!

                      Hi BeachBarbie8,

Great question. For dry skin, always make sure you're moisturized and using a primer that is specifically for dry skin (I have dry skin too, so I know the struggle!).

The best way to get a more natural, dewy look is to do exactly as you listed: wet the sponge and squeeze it to get a lot of the moisture out. As far as how to apply foundation to the sponge, what I like to do is add a bit to the back of my hand, dip the sponge in and apply. Some people dot foundation around their face and use the sponge to blend, and others add directly to the sponge.

I feel like I use less makeup if I apply from the back of my hand, but that's just a personal preference.

                      Thanks.
