Most Helpful Positive Review Best gel I've ever tried
This is the best gel I have ever tried. Usually my 2b/2c waves are limp within a few hours of drying no matter what products I apply. With this new stronger hold gel, my waves have held for days with minimal refreshing required. I was concerned that with the stronger hold it would make my hair too crunchy, but it maintained it's softness. It could have been better at controlling my frizz, but given my hair can frizz in the shower, I don't think any product can eliminate frizz in my hair. It was definitely reduced though. The true test will be how well this product holds up in the height of summer.
Most Helpful Critical Review Disappointing
I don't normally leave reviews about products but considering I have been searching for the perfect curl product I felt I needed to. Let me start by saying I am Caucasian with 3a/3b ringlet curls if I diffuse. If I air dry my hair their more 2c/3a curls. I tried this gel because I live in super humid Florida and my normal curl cream/gel routine wasn't cutting it. Had to many glycerin properties and it just attracted the nasty humidity to my hair. I tried this ouidad gel a few ways. I used a cream first then the gel. It didn't give me the curls I was used to but they elongated and skinny. Took a lot to poof them. My cream had Argan oil so I thought maybe that was too heavy. So I purchased a styling milk and tried again. Another weird curl was going on. So tonight I decided I wasn't going to use any creams and just used the gel all by itself. Well I can tell you that the issue wasn't the either of the creams it was definitely this gel. I have a hot mess of long stringy curls. I stopped diffusing half way through because I realized there was no hope.
I don't want to be a negative ninny so on a positive note, the gel did have nice slip to it which is similar to the gel I am trying to replace so I loved that. And it did leave my hair soft. But that's all I've got for the positives.
The curly struggle is real!

I bought the travel size to try it and ended up with the full size bottle. There is no frizz at all with this product - it allows your hair to curl - and once dry you can't feel it on your hair - not heavy or greasy. The bottle should last a long time as it takes just a small amount to give amazing results.
Left white residue on my hair.
AnnaBA from California
It left a lot of white residue on my hair on the second day which made my hair feel dirty. It also didn't hold too good. I will not be repurchasing it.
My favorite gel!

My favorite gel product. Shampoo and conditioner good also.

I really like this gel. I use it on very damp (not soaking wet) hair, and I get a good cast. I live in a rainy climate, and I think this keeps me from getting too frizzy.

Great product! Hair looked amazing & curly! Recommend
First time with this stronger hold
ghotstuff74 from Orlando
First time using this strong formula and seem to works so far. I normally used the regular formula but summer was brutal on my hair with frizz no matter what I do..TUMBLE WEED!! LOL!! This worked better but I felt it weighed my hair down a bit than the regular strength one, so I'm experimenting with how to use it. I have fine mixture curly, wavy hair that is unpredictable and have a mind of its own. Hope this works since I've only used it three times.

I LOVE this gel. I have fine, thin hair and it is the only gel I've tried that works in both winter and summer without causing frizz/leaving residue/leaving my hair weighed down.
It leaves a good cast that once scrunched out becomes soft and settles well. I don't air dry often but when I have air dried and used this gel, even though I don't have the volume I want I do keep the definition.
I'm only giving it 4 stars because if I don't use it on soaking wet hair, it doesn't do much for me. It took some trial and error to figure out that I need to apply it in the shower and re-wet my head between sections, and I do feel that for the price point it should allow a little more flexibility in that area, but it's still my favorite gel.
Not for my curls
PamCan from Yakima, Wa
I like a good cast on my curls the first day of styling. I use a lot of product because my curls (3b/3c) can handle it and the curl shape is lasts longer. This gel leaves absolutely no cast and I got left with this dry, flaky/fuzzy residue in my hair. My curls shrank a little too. I returned it for Divacurls Archangel gel (holy grail).
I use this product all the time

I love this gel for my curly hair. It hold off the frizz like no other product. I've been using it for many years.

2A/2B Waves SAVED

Now it took me a little to love this gel. The gel by itself is mediocre, but when you marry the gel with its soul mate cream . . . magic.
I used this right after the Not Your Mother's Curl Talk Cream while flip-styling (a technique in the curly girl community, I learned it from marisacurls on instagram) and diffused. The first time I used it I applied my cream, plopped, then applied the gel. My waves were flat and oily. BUT when I applied my cream and gel straight out of the shower then plopped they were bouncy and beautiful.
A quick note: I have wavy hair that loves a crunchy cast to scrunch out. This gel might not work for you, especially if you find curl casts to damage your waves/curls. But it's the travel size. Why not give it a shot?
I will continue to buy this product. Love it!

Can use on any kinds of curls. Smells good too.
Good And Good for you product
Msmaria from Van Nuys
This gel really helps to keep the frizz away. My hair is badly damaged by a bad bleach job, and nothing was keeping those little hairs from sticking out but this gel helped. I love that it is not sticky at all but still gives some good hold. I would use it mid-shaft to ends, and use very sparingly above that like on your roots and crown.
Millie from New York City
I usually never leave reviews but I might be able to spare someone. This gel has no cast, so if you like that then you'd like this. I would compare this to miss Jessie's pillow soft curls. It gives no shine either. I have type 4A hair and very little of it, it's also very fine. It is very light though. But I need my stylers to last all week, I barely got to day 2 without tons of frizz!!
Love this stuff

The Best Gel....
Maryann from Omaha
I use it after styling cream when my hair is wet and I reapply by rubbing it in my hands with a little water to refresh and restyle.

I love Ouidad products mainly because my hair loves protein and a lot of their products have protein in them. I have 2B/2C hair. This gel along with the Ouidad Finishing Mist really helps to hold my curls giving them definition & a lot of volume.
Holds my curls perfectly and light weight

I used this gel with the not your mothers defining cream and my hair looks so great! Did it weigh down my curls at all
Best Gel for 3b curls
Julia from Palo Alto, CA
This is the best gel to use for 3b curly hair. It makes my curls defined and frizz free for multiple days. All you need is a little spray of water on day 2 and 3 hair to reactivate the product. I usually will add a little more gel around my crown because it gets frizzy when I sleep. It doesn't dry my hair out and is amazing.
Brenna from Philly
I have always used curl creams on my 2C curls for fear of the crunch, then I watched some ouidad videos and found out you scrunch out the crunch when it dries! game changer for me. it is expensive though and I use a lot of product to get good results on my super thick coarse hair

I didn't like it and already purchased something else.
Defines my curls well but has a heavier, stickier texture
Anika from Arizona
I was actually much more impressed with this gel than I thought I would be. It gives really good hold and actually makes my fine, 3B curls more into ringlets than wavy curls. My hair is the best with this gel when it's very wet. If I use it in a damp refresh, it has a very heavy and sticky texture that takes away my volume and creates frizz if it's applied when my hair isn't wet enough. I do love this gel I just have to be careful with the amount I use and how wet my hair is. I would definitely still buy it again!
Don't hate it but don't love it either
ddnicole from Media, PA
I was so excited to try this. I've been on the hunt for a great gel since Graham Webb's Making Waves stopped being produced. I started off with decent definition but just a couple of hours later I already had frizz - and this was in a/c. I had zero crunch. That can be a positive for some but my hair almost requires some crunch that I can scrunch our in order to look nice. My hair is super difficult so maybe this would work better for others. The hunt goes on.
