Works amazing for me and worth the price
I was unsure about buying this, took the plunge, and am glad I did. Contrary to the other reviewers, I really don't find it that heavy or difficult to use. Note that it comes with a comb attached, but you can take the comb out. I have finer hair and I turn into a frizz ball when dry, regardless of quality shampoos/conditioners/after shower treatments I use. I also live in a humid place that rains a lot. I have to wear hoodies due to that. I toss and turn a lot at night, which also frizzes me out. I have had the same straightener for too long, and caved after looking into many types. I can say this is definitely a great straightener for my needs. To describe what my hair was like after first use: absolutely blow-out sleek. I was literally in shock after I used it. My hair literally looked 2 inches longer. When I walked into work I got immediate compliments on my hair from multiple people. It stood through a whole day of humidity, I didn't wash my hair before bed, woke up to it still looking very nice. My hair was so noticeably soft and very quenched.
I'm familiar with GHD and Babyliss and see why people may opt for those instead. I do think it's important to make sure this is the right product for YOU. If you have very thick hair, it's going to be a lot heavier for you than it was for me, for holding it so long. You'll fill the tank more. I could see why someone's hair might benefit more from sticking with traditional heat plates. This just happened to work for me and what I was looking for. On price, yes it is expensive but I would say competitive or similar to all the brands we know. I believe it's worth the price after my experience with it.
Lastly, it has 3 temp settings which was fine with me, however if you have a specific preferred temperature for your hair and it is not 1 of those 3 settings, that could be a con.
2 MUST-DOS WITH THIS PRODUCT:
You really need to stick with distilled water. You don't want to put harsh minerals through the device or through your hair.
You need to use heat protectant of some kind with your hair before using, and make sure you are using it with the arrows facing the right direction.
Good straightening power, not very easy to use for
I've used the SteamPod to both straighten and curl my hair. For straightening, this product delivers. The steam makes it smooth and sleek but also somehow retained more volume than I get with a regular straightener. I almost never straighten my hair though so I was excited to use it to make loose waves.
As someone who can curl their hair in beachy waves in a literal 5 mins with a regular curling iron, this was difficult to use. It's a bit heavy and cumbersome. After a few tries I could master the left side of my head (I'm a righty) but got a completely different type of curl my right. I think that with enough practice it would become easier. My main issues are that the heat plates are far too small and I struggled to make curls that stayed through the day.
For reference I have medium-thick wavy (2a/2b) hair, past my shoulders. It's not fine so it can take a lot of heat. There are three heat settings: 350, 390, and 410F. I tested it on all the heat settings as I normally curl and straighten my hair around 450F. On the highest heat setting (410F) it scorched my finer hair that's around my face so I mostly used 390F. I had never had a hair tool do that! I think it mainly because you have to use this product so slowly to allow the steam to do its job.
At the end of the day I don't feel like it replaces any hair tools in my kit and I don't feel like I would reach for it very often.
This is magical!!! Love love love! Can totally live with the fact that it needs distilled water for these results
Wasn't really impressed
I bought this as a replacement for my ghd hair straightener that had finally bit the dust. My sister recommended it. I however, was not impressed. Steam was annoying, it was clunky and difficult to use. I returned it, and bought a ghd Gold.😊
Adequate but not my favorite
I thought this flat iron was a bit tricky to get the hang of & the instructions are not useful. It does straighten my hair very well. It is big and heavy. I took the comb portion out, because it was pulling my hair and it made it much easier to pass over my hair. I have shoulder length thick hair. Overall, it does the job but for the price, there are better options.
This straightener is the best I've ever used, no doubt. It makes my hair shiny and healthy, and the results last for days. No burnt smell when straightening either. Just fantastic and so worth it!
I love this flat iron!
