Modern version of a classic way of shaving

The short review: I've been a safety razor user for a few years. The Bevel is a sleek, minimalist design safety razor that has a great weight and feel. For me, it shaves comfortably and I like it as much as my Edwin Jagger DE89Lbl Lined Detail Chrome Plated Double Edge Safety Razor. It's priced comp...etitively (within a few bucks) with other peers and it should last a lifetime. It uses standard blades, giving you many, many blade options, though you can buy blades from Bevel. It gives me a shave similar to what I am used to with the Edwin Jagger, which is far better for me than the multi-blade disposable razors. The bonus is that blades cost pennies. More than a year's supply (100 blades) of my favorite razors cost me $8. My old multi-blade disposables are $3 each. .08 versus $3.00. Using a safety razor gives me a better shaving experience and costs me a lot less money. For those new to safety razors, Bevel includes a booklet that clearly explains the basics. It's certainly enough to get a first time user a good shave. The value is good, the design is nice, Bevel offers a full range of shaving supplies for a good shave and skin care. In short, while there are many options for a safety razor, the Bevel is certainly worth consideration for looks, value and performance. The longer review: I switched from the five blade disposable razors a few years ago. I **hated** shaving. My face would be red and irritated plus I'd get ingrown hairs all the time. Enough was enough and I decided to find another option. I found all I needed in Leisureguy's Guide to Gourmet Shaving the Double-Edge Way. Since then, shaving has been far more comfortable, less expensive and much more enjoyable. I highly recommend reading it. One major change was that I learned to care for my skin, prepare for shaving and did some post shave care as well. I tested different things and found what worked best for me, just as you will have to, to some degree. I found that for me, I get the shave I like the best from Derby Extra Double Edge Razor Blades. I use a badger brush and shave cream. While I used to make my shave cream in a bowl with shaving soap, I've taken to using Proraso Shaving Soap in a Bowl. Using the Bevel with my blades and routine resulted in another great shave. Not any different for me, as I use this style of razor already. For those using the disposable style, if you switch to the safety razor, chances are you'll have a good experience as many people do. Bevel does a nice job in explaining the correct use of a safety razor. If you're just starting out, it might seem like it's going to be a long process with many steps. It really isn't, but like many things, you need to get used to it. I spend 3-4 minutes a day shaving, including prep and post care. My skin has never looked better. Dealing With Ingrown Hairs I would get them on my neckline, cheekline and jawline. Most were not so bad, but the worst were like a small angry growing volcano, about the size of a quarter on my face. I don't get many now, but here's what I used to do. The first thing I would used is Tend Skin, which I always have in my shave kit. For the small ones, this is all I usually needed. I'll also suggest a good set of tweezers, like the Tweezers for Ingrown Hair by TweezerGuru. That is all I needed for the majority of ingrown hairs. For the really bad ones, I used Smile's PRID Drawing Salve and covered it with a bandage overnight. Saving with a safety razor has been a very good option for me, however it took time for me to find what worked best for me. I like the Bevel safety razor for it's good looks, very reasonable cost and it's performance. Walker & Company offers a nice line of products to compliment the Bevel, though as you gain experience, you may choose different options for the supporting products.
