Most Helpful Positive Review never thought i'd like "oil based"
I typically wouldn't buy an "oil based cleanser"... but a kind lady at Ulta recommended I use this before using the ultra calming cleanser (that will be another review- 5!)
I have combo skin- sometimes dry patches, shiny nose, acne scars, and hormonal acne along the jawline. These reasons alone make me cringe at the thought of oil cleanser.
I honestly bought this knowing that I could (and probably would) return it. The "thought" made me think it wouldn't work out for my skin. BOY WAS I WRONG!
The first time I used it, it was a little odd to rub oil into your skin (dry hands and dry skin)... but the massage felt great, and the scent is pleasant. I rubbed it all over my eyes, and it never stung. When I added water it became milky and I could literally see makeup dripping off my face (I made a huge mess of my bathroom counter!). I rinsed it off with warm water. My face immediately felt soft, and SO clean! I know that it cleaned my makeup off amazingly, because after using this, I used the ultra calming cleanser with my clarisonic and my bristles of the clarisonic were CLEAN without a trace of makeup on them)
I have not had any reactions to this, and I truly feel that my face is cleaner after using my face wash.
The bottle is pretty large, and will last a LONG time. I only use about a dime to penny size of product in my palm and it takes off: primer, foundation, powder, blush, mascara, eye liner, and eyeshadows.
Give it a try!
Most Helpful Critical Review Caused breakouts
I received a sample of this product and decided to buy the full size and give it a shot after reading all the rave reviews. I was having some minor breakouts (hormonal) before trying this product, but do not typically have acne prone skin. At first I liked this product, but after a couple weeks my skin started breaking out horribly, but I decided to stick with the product to see if things would improve. My skin became the worst it has ever been with painful deep cystic acne that I had never experienced before. After discontinuing the use of this product, my skin is back to normal but now I have tons of dark spots where the blemishes once were 6 months later. While this product is great for many people, it was horrible for me. If you start to break out after using this product, stop using it immediately or it will destroy your skin like it did mine.

When i got this i wasnt sure about how i would use this, but then i started double cleansing at night and started noticing the results right away!. Love everything about it, from the smell to the texture, to how effective it is. Im on my second bottle and will definitely buy again
Smells great and helps clean better
Carmen from Nevada
Really helps remove makeup and sunscreen.
Gift that keeps giving! :-)
Lauren from Phoenix, AZ
I received this in a gift set and I will never buy another face cleanse. I have never used a product that powers through makeup like this! My stubborn waterproof mascara melts away and I can go from complete full makeup to nothing in 1 quick rinse. This product smells SO nice. I am now a lifelong Dermalogica customer! So many amazing products, but this one is by far my favorite! Worth every penny.
Kalyn from Michigan
I was testing trial sizes of this and Clinique's Take the Day Off balm...was overall happy with both but this seemed to clean my eye makeup the best. Def recommend!
There is nothing comparable to this makeup remover
PJ from Illinois
This is the only thing I can find to remove my makeup easily. It is expensive but I try to use only about half a pump each time I need it. It works very well and I've been unsuccessful in finding anything that compares. If you buy it online straight from Dermalogica, you can get a mini size with your purchase for free

Works good for me I use this everyday with the gel cleaners I have oily acne prone skin and I been using it for 2 years it's pricey but hey it makes me feel so beautiful
Good light cleansing oil
Nina from Virginia
This is a great cleansing oil to use before using regular face cleanser. It's light and dissolves easily with water unlike other face oils. It's not great at removing eye makeup on its own though so I'd still recommend using a balm or a heavier duty oil for that. Big bottle lasted me a while but still overpriced for me
It's just Ok
Kkohl from Carbondale, IL
It does a good job of removing foundation etc, however, when it comes to eye makeup such as mascara and eyeliner, expect to hit it at least twice... Not exactly what I'd hoped for at the price point.
Doesn't fully melt away makeup but IS A GREAT PRECLEANSE
Ulta Employee from Cape Coral
I bought the mini version in a kit with the face wash and it does remove impurities before my initial wash but it doesn't put a dent in getting rid of my mascara, that is literally my only complaint.
Favorite Part of Skin Routine
Caro from Los Ángeles
I have sensitive combination skin. I had been eyeing this product for a while and was hesitant about the price. I finally caved and after using it for a week I can say, worth it!! Oil cleansing is my favorite part of my skin routine. It's good for removing the day's impurities. This specific oil cleanser has the most thin, lightweight, velvety slip and smells so clean (not heavy fragrance). I do not use oil cleansers to remove eye makeup so I cannot speak on using this cleanser for removing eye makeup. If you're looking for an oil cleanser that's eye friendly I don't think this is it. Otherwise, it feels luxurious and melts away face makeup, oil, little sebaceous plugs (I think that's what I'm feeling) and sunscreen. It keeps my texture smooth on a daily basis without stripping my face of moisture. This will for sure be a staple in my routine.
Leaves skin so soft!
Amy from Indiana
I use this as part of my second cleansing along with a gel cleanser. My skin is softer than it has been in years! It doesn't remove waterproof mascara effectively but it does seem to remove everything else. I have super dry skin and this has made that dry, tight feeling nothing but a memory.

I needed a good cleanser to remove my makeup before actually washing my face. Makeup removers just weren't doing it at all and causing skin problems. Then I saw this on Ulta's site when I decided I would splurge and buy the special cleanser on their 21days sale. So glad I took the chance and bought it. My makeup comes off completely with this. So my face is ready to receive the cleanser and moisturizer.
So glad I purchased both.
Rhonda from Los Angeles, Ca
I absolutely love this precleans. I do have "average" skin sensitivity (nor more than than the next person) and I have had no issue. Texture is so smooth and easy to use and does a great job melting away my makeup.
Effective, but irritating and messy
ATR from Tampa, FL
I have mixed feelings about this product. PreCleanse was very effective in removing makeup and oil from my skin. It also did not break me out. However, I found PreCleanse to be very messy to use and a bit irritating to my skin (especially in the eye area). I'll finish my bottle, but I don't think I'll repurchase.
My new go to
Mel from Wisconsin
I love ❤️ this product. It's my new go to evening cleanser followed by their gel cleanser. I use their daily microfoliant in the mornings and my face took a turn for the best with Dermalogica. I started my son with their cleansers for blackheads and his face is a lot cleaner after 2 weeks of using them. Dermalogica is my new go to brand going forward 😍
No no no
Jane from Here
If you want to double cleanse, than wash your face twice. This oil smells good, but doesn't melt away serums and makeup at all. Still had to use the Dermalogica gel cleanser twice. Left me with big, clogged pores, even though I use a prescription alpha hydroxy gel. Ugh. I returned it.
Love this oil
Medicbritta from Menifee
I use an oil to remove makeup from my face at night. This oil removes everything without scrubbing. My face is soft and there isn't an oily residue left behind. Definitely the best oil I have tried.
I love this cleaner. It really cleans your face .
Archie from Stone Mountain, GA
It completely removed all makeup. It melts it away. I am on my 3rd bottle since I discovered it.
I wanted to try the liquid vs. the balm
LamborghiniQueen from Georgia
The only down fall is the liquid does not melt makeup away as good as their balm does
Not a fan
Amg from California
I received a sample of this. Won't remove mascara and doesn't do much for me. I prefer a balm. Doesn't irritate my skin though.
Makes my skin so soft
Nina from New York
I was curious about using an oil product and did a lot of research before I ultimately purchased this based on the great reviews for even those with oily skin like me. I have been using for a few days at night before my cleanser and sometimes just on its own and my skin feels so soft and smooth.
Cleans off sunscreen!!
Alex from Chicago, IL
I thought double cleansing was a marketing scam to sell more product but I was wrong. Use at night only to remove sunscreen and excess oil before cleansing with Kate Somerville or IS clinical. The dermalogica special cleaning gel is good but I wanted something with more AHA/BHA to keep pores and acne clear. I am a male with oily / acne prone skin and this works as a great first step at night to prepare your skin for another cleanser. It is a bit expensive and I'm sure there are other precleanse oils out there but this seems to work for me. Also you can try a little duo kit with the precleanse and special cleaning gel in travel size for like $10 if you're unsure!!!!!!!
Been Using for Years
Karen from PA
I've used this product for years now, obviously because it works! Even women who service beauty counters in department stores who sell other brands use and recommend this product. This particular products uses one's own oils to help cleanse the skin an keep it looking clean and clear. Very gentle, yet effective, on one's ski.
Stings my eyes!
Collins23 from Minnesota
I've used a few different cleansing oils/balms (Julep, MAC, Clean it Zero) And none of them sting my eyes like this one! Unfortunately this one is the most expensive too. I've tried to go back to it so I can get it used up but I end up squeezing my eyes shut into a tissue for 10 minutes afterward because it stings so bad!
