Curls Did Not Hold

Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel, I had the opportunity to try out the new Revlon One-Step Blowout Curls styling tool. For reference, my hair is thin, slightly wavy and long at mid-back length. I was first impressed by the sleek design of the tool, which came neatly packed in its box with... a couple of different attachments, but then thrown off a little by the lack of instructions for use. There was only a tiny booklet that mentioned how to attach each piece, but no real guide for proper usage. Despite the lack of instructions, I decided to pop on the curling rod piece and test it out on dry hair seeing as the box specifically mentioned using it as a tool to "refresh your hairstyle and create curls on dry hair." Let me be blunt here: it did not work on my dry hair. My hair usually curls with a curling iron really easily even without styling products after about 6 seconds, but this tool did not work at all for me. I held each section of hair for at least 15 seconds, and while it did create beautiful loose curls, those curls immediately fell out after making them. I would have had to spray each section with a holding product after making to even expect it to last for than a few minutes, and that would be pretty tedious and time consuming on top of already needing to hold each piece longer than I'm used to. Next, I tried with slightly damp hair. This time I utilized the root-drying concentrator, which snapped on as easily as the rod did and felt nice combing through my roots. I kept it moving as I dried though because it is quite hot and I don't typically hold a hair dryer in one place for long either. I feel like it worked really well to dry my roots and then went ahead with the next step, which was attaching the curling rod again. This time, with slightly damp hair, I slowly pulled the rod from the top of each piece to my ends before rolling it back up and holding for about 25 seconds. I couldn't roll it up too close to my head though because even on Medium heat it was very hot on my scalp. Then I loosened the clip and pulled down to let each strand fall down. This created very wonderful, aerated curls, and I was feeling much better about the product as I finished the section and went on to the next. Unfortunately, I ended up running into a similar issue as before because by the time I had finished the next section, I could definitely see the curls below falling out. I continued with the rest of my hair and ended up with some very loose beach waves. I was still happy with the overall look, but it wasn't at all what I expected and there are some things that I wish had been different about my experience. The biggest issue I encountered was that the clip on the curling rod is quite loose and my thin hair either slipped out or blew out as I was trying to roll it, making me have to re-roll several strands. The tool is also very hot, loud, and my long hair kept trying to get stuck in the base of the unit where the air intake was. I also obviously don't like that my curls fell out so fast. I'm sure the more I use it (and with the addition of a holding product) the better the results will be, but it's definitely not a replacement for my curling iron. Overall, I'm a little disappointed in the unit but it was fun trying something new out and hopefully I can find a way to get those beautiful, aerated curls to actually stay somehow!
