Mediheal products are so accessible and well­known that they hardly need an introduction. Their most popular line, Madecassoside, is known to help with skin regeneration and inflammation reduction. Ive been using the original Madecassoside version for over 3 years with great satisfaction. Its my No....1 sheet mask, so I was even more thrilled to be chosen for The Hwahae Testers this time. However, I did wonder, Will it be better than before? What if I prefer the original version? Luckily, I had some of the original version stashed away, plus the renewed version I bought before The Hwahae Testers, so Ill compare them. First, my skin is dry from winter to early spring (mid­March), and combination (oily T­zone) the rest of the year. Those with similar skin types know its hard to apply too much product, but also difficult not to apply anything. Im prone to blemishes and acne, so I love ingredients like mugwort, centella asiatica (madecassoside), and green tea. I also like bifida ferment lysate, hyaluronic acid, and propolis. For sheet masks, I prefer products with high hydration and a clean finish (easy to apply cream if needed). The renewed product features micro hyaluronic acid, improved moisture barrier and pigmentation, and is artificial fragrance­free. As someone who loved the original version, I was concerned about how well the renewed product would suit me. In conclusion, it matches my skin needs well and shows improvements in both application and effectiveness compared to the previous version. Ill use informal language for a quick explanation! 1. Texture • Original: Moist and hydrating, with a water­like flowing texture. • Renewed: Not much different from the original. 2. Application (I always store in the fridge for cooling. Take out 5 minutes before use.) • Original: Unlike other sheet masks, it maintains a cool sensation while hydrating. After removing the mask, skin feels moist ­ slightly dry finish. Perfect with a hydrating cream in spring/fall, and a less oily cream in winter/early spring. • Renewed: The cooling sensation while hydrating is slightly less than the original. Maybe due to added hyaluronic acid(?), its more moisturizing and less irritating than the original, but still feels a tiny bit dry. For this season, oily skin types might not need cream, while combination skin types might need to apply some. 3. Blemishes • Original: The day after using the mask, potential cystic acne reduces in size. Applying leftover essence to blemishes the next day (hard to reapply the mask) helps them slowly subside. However, it wasnt very effective on growing or burst cystic acne. • Renewed: Similar to the original. Notable improvement in healing large burst cystic acne areas (applied the renewed version the day after bursting)!!! The night the renewed product arrived, I had to squeeze out all the pus from a burst acne. The area looked hopeless. Thinking it was too soon to apply directly, I did this the next morning: essence­sheet mask­(avoiding the burst area)­cream­makeup. The following morning, I was shocked while reapplying the leftover essence to the burst area. The condition improved to what it would normally be like 4 days after bursting! My cystic acne usually leaves a bright red mark for up to a week. But this area faded faster than usual. Its like going from a raging fire to a controlled burn. As someone with very slow skin recovery, this is what I like most about it. The effects of madecassoside + moisture barrier + pigmentation improvement were definitely noticeable for me. 4. Recommended Skin Types Due to madecassosides properties, its recommended for oily and combination skin! Those with normal or dry skin without blemishes might not need it. For normal to dry skin with blemishes, I recommend applying a moisturizing cream after using this mask. I have a habit of trying various masks and stocking up on the ones I like, and this is one Ive consistently repurchased. I was using up my original version stock, worried about the renewed version, but now Im reassured. As this line is the most popular on Olive Young, I think most people with oily/combination skin will be satisfied. P.S. The second photo shows the worst area while wearing the mask, and the third photo is from the day after. Im most shocked that the changes arent more noticeable in the photos. Why doesnt it show...? Im sad it looks like a change only I can see. Theres nothing particularly disappointing. The renewed version is great! I need to use up my stashed original version quickly and start using this one. Apply toner before using the sheet mask. After removing the mask, apply the remaining essence to any blemish areas, and reapply to those areas the next day as well!
