Mixed feelings.

I usually dislike designer fragrances because of my preference changing to scents that are more niche and better blended but when I heard that Francis Kurkdijan was the nose behind this new Dior fragrance I had hope because of BR540 and all the other amazing niche fragrances he's known for like Oud ...satin mood and gentle fluidity gold. I couldn't wait for this to arrive and once it did I was so utterly upset because the initial few days when I would spray this I smelled an overload of soft powdery florals with a cat urine smell mixed in. It smelled awful to be blunt it was too heady on the florals and the cat pee smell was making a bad situation worse. I couldn't even believe that MFK had formulated this. I knew I'd eventually have to review this so today I forced myself to wear this again to see if the fragrance had settled any and changed. It has. The notes given kind of mislead you into thinking this is going to dry down to some warm sensual base but it's never that. From start to finish this is floral for me and straight floral isn't my favorite but I will say that currently nothing about this fragrance smells urine like anymore. So thankfully that went away but still I feel like MFK holds his own brand to higher standards so I'm not sure what he was thinking with this fragrance. I won't say I love it for the sake of leaving a good review because I don't. I would have preferred to get the new Tom Ford fragrance because at least that designer one would've been up my alley with the rose and coffee mix. This scent has lasting power that's one thing I will say it lasts and projects very well but it's not an amazing scent. It's not overwhelmingly floral but it still feels like smelling flowers a bit too up close and there's no real character to this scent there's no layers other than it just being a floral bomb. Some people may love that but for me with my love of niche I'm used to fragrances having layers and evolving instead of being one thing throughout the entire duration. I really thought with MFK creating this that it would be niche quality but for Dior at a designer price and sadly it's not. For anyone seeing MFK and thinking they are getting a deal by purchasing this fragrance thinking it with have niche standards or dna it just doesn't. It's nothing special and even though I don't mind wearing it today I know if I smell it too much then it will give me one heck of a headache. I would much rather wear Note Vanillee or Silky Woods. Or if I'm in the mood for a floral then the closest I will go is Sirens & Sailors from Jusbox because that fresh rose is drowned in rum and peach syrup which makes it this juicy boozy combination that gives layers and depth while taking your nose on an intoxicating ride. Sadly I don't see myself even keeping this fragrance from dior. Might give it to my mom.
