- Official Answer By SebastianNo it is not. Parabens are used in our products as preservative. They prevent the growth of harmful bacteria and mold, protecting both products and consumers. - Q
Why use sodium benzoate as a preservative when the tire industry long ago stopped using sodium benzoate to preserve tires as so many of their workers died from leukemia after exposure to the same? The shampoo is a slew of chemicals but SLS is the least of what bothers me.The other form of sodium benzoate is benzoic acid which is found in soda. Pepsi was sued for it. Just because the corrupt FDA says it is GRAS does not mean it is not harmful. Why not use vitamin E as preservative?
- Asked by Cecille
- Official Answer By SebastianThank you for your question and concern. The purpose why we use Sodium Benzote as it acts as a preservative that prolongs shelf life as it works against mold and yeast which over time products can develop when shelf life expires. • Sodium Benzote is the salt of benzoic acid which are both organic compounds Benzoic Acid is a organic compound that act as a preservative. Benzoic Acid is non toxic and the amount we use is less than 0.001/5mg, but if CONSUMED in high amounts can be poisonous. As to your question regarding Vitamin E. Why not use Vitamin E as a preservative? Vitamin E can’t be mixed in a product that contains water and Vitamin E is not a preservative it acts as a antioxidant which would have no benefit since DRENCH SHAMPOO is a water/aqua base product. - Q
I just received my order of the Drench Shampoo and the ingredients do not match the online list of ingredients. I saw someone else's question on this in the questions area and the reply was that the current ingredients is the same as what Ulta lists online, but that is NOT what the bottle says. I wouldn't have ordered if I knew it had sodium lauryl sulfate in it, especially as the second ingredient. Please explain what is going on. Did I get an old bottle or is Ulta listing an old ingredients list.
- Asked by Andrea
- Official Answer By SebastianHere is a list of current ingredients: WATER/EAU, SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE, SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE, COCAMIDOPROPYL BETAINE, GLYCOL DISTEARATE, DIMETHICONE, SODIUM CITRATE, COCAMIDE MEA, SODIUM XYLENESULFONATE, FRAGRANCE/PARFUM, SODIUM BENZOATE, CITRIC ACID, PANTHENOL, GUAR HYDROXYPROPYLTRIMONIUM CHLORIDE, SODIUM CHLORIDE, SALICYLIC ACID, TETRASODIUM EDTA, METHYLPARABEN. Sulfates have recently gotten a bad rap as being bad for you and your hair. What you need to know is that sulfates are the ingredient that cleanses the hair. One would need to consume a large quantity of them to have negative results. We use only the highest-grade sulfates – which provide cleansing necessary without pulling color or damaging the hair. Optimal levels are contained in our products which leave the hair clean without over drying. We offer a very nourishing formula overall, which is gentle on the skin and hair. The SLS (sulfates) used are in the international regulatory permitted range, they have been tested extensively for decades to ensure customer health and safety. The relationship between sulfates and hair color is not straight forward. Most of what we hear is a myths that come from a "sulfate free" marketing campaign or company. Harsh sulfates will most likely always pull color from the hair and cause dryness. Gentle sulfates with the proper formulation of other ingredients will keep hair color in longer than most sulfate free shampoos. Sulfate free shampoos most often do not cleanse the hair thoroughly enough to rid it of dirt, oils, product and environmental debris. This causes more dirt to attach to the hair and the formation of free radicals. Free radicals cause the fading of hair color. The appearance of a sulfate in a shampoo does not automatically determine the "safeness" of the product. I hope that this helps. If you have, further questions please call 800-935-5273. Would this be light enough for my hair while also providing moisture to my dry ends? I loved the light shampoo and conditioner, they were perfect but I can't find it anymore.

As Good As Pureology But Better
I believe I have found the best shampoo + conditioner in the higher end of these products - I can honestly say at least for me it compares to Pureology shampoos and conditioners and is far less the cost of Pureology. I have probably tried every higher end shampoo and conditioner out there and my new...

I'm Conflicted Here
This conditioner is o.k. Nothing spectacular to report here. I always go back to my old standbys; Terax Crema, Nexxus Humectress, even Dove has a nice conditioner that's much more affordable. I used this in conjuction with the Sebastian Drench Shampoo...but still wasn't bowled over with the results....
