first off, the bottle is very nice & sleek with the black vinyl. i think it was a nice touch to "dress up" the bottle. now on to the fragrance..on my skin, le parfum opens with a powerful coffee accord, followed by white florals and settles with vanilla. i also somewhat smell the original black opiu...

Birthday Disappointment
I too read reviews, and decided to gift it to myself. I was excited to wear it the next day. After purchasing it, I tested it, and was immediately disappointed. The fragrance is practically diluted with water. I thought it was just me, so I showered, and applied it to fresh skin, without products. The fragrance basically evaporated. Traditionally, parfums are oil based, and more potent than perfumes, which are alcohol based. I prefer gourmand, spicy, woody fragrances, and this was not it. Upon returning it, one of the sales associates stated it is a frequently returned fragrance. My guess is the formula was inconsistent.
This isn't the original or travel size, don't get confused
This is my favorite perfume and it's much more vanilla-y than the regular black opium (eau de parfum). They should have named this one differently to avoid confusion because I see alot of people saying the travel size has no vanilla. The travel size only comes in the original black opium (eau de parfum) that smells more like coffee and floral notes, not this version (le parfum) so they're entirely different smells. This is basically the "intense" version. It's 80% vanilla, 15% smokey coffee, 5% other notes in my opinion.

I got this when it was on sale and at first I didn't like it—I did not smell the vanilla at all and gave it to my mom. After she used it though I took it right back and it is now my favorite. It smells so good after some time, I don't know why it took time for me to like it. The smell definitely lingers for me even after a wash, but no compliants! I get so many compliments!!
