I've tried thermal protection sprays from Cantu and Aussie and they both make my hair feel hair and brittle. I can say even as African American woman, my hair type is short, but very thick, and I still love this product. It smells really great and I am glad this was my first CHI product.
I had high hopes for this heat protection spray, as I've used other Chi products and loved them. The first few times I used this, I was super happy because it smelled *amazing* and made my hair shiny. But, over the next few uses, I noticed my hair was going from silky (right out of bed - tangle free!) to dry, rough, and tangly immediately after straightening. I was confused because A) I was using a heat protector and B) it was instantaneous "damage" following the use of heat tools, and went away after washing. The product sprays on like a protecting wax, very sticky and heavy; You need to brush through it a few times after spraying before you can even think about taking a hot tool to it. I will say my hair is undamaged while using it, but it makes my hair tacky, while causing dryness and matting tangles.

a couple months ago i bought he barbie CHI heat protectant which is the same as this but different bottle and scent and i straighten my hair a lot. And i've recently noticed my hair looking more dry and more split ends than ever before, and after reading other reviews people have been having the same experience! I am going to stop using this and buy the HSI argan oil heat protectant. that i recommended not this.

I love this heat protectant. I curl my hair about every other day and my hair always feels smooth with no heat damage or breakage. Just make sure you don't use too much, though. Using too much will make it feel like you overloaded your hair with a styling hairspray. If you use a reasonable amount, your hair will feel great!

So yes it works as an iron guard (I hope) and yes helps with frizz. But I can only use very little and even the little bit leaves my hair feeling heavy weighted. My hair is thick and curly.

This stuff literally made my hair break off. Nothing else in my routine changed besides this and I had to cut my hair because the breakage was so bad. Once I figured it out, it went right in the trash.

absolutely in love with this product. my hair is very dead but when i use this product you can not tell one bit. it makes my hair so soft and controls the frizz. 100% recommend.

After seeing so many positive reviews, I decided to buy this. I spritzed it all over my clean dry hair in prep to use a hot iron. I noticed it felt more like a hair spray when it was drying and by the time it was dry, my hair was completely tangled & felt like straw. It was so stiff I couldn't even comb or brush it out! Even trying to start brushing the ends gently was impossible. I had to rinse it out of my hair and even while rinsing, my hair felt like straw. I had to put conditioner on and rinse again. I have long fine hair. This stuff is awful and I don't understand all the glowing reviews.

Please make sure to use the product correctly and it does it's job to protect from heat :)

I have tried many hair products to reduce the frizz from second and third day hair but this is the only one that's worked. It's almost like a hair spray and a heat protectant. It also kept it straighter more days. It is a bit sticky while applying but once it dries it isn't. The only down side to this is that it doesn't add shine and almost makes hair matte. But I'll take that over frizz any day. Tip: I put my hair in a loose pony tail at night to prevent frizz and crimpy bed head)

It made the flat iron drag, ripped my hair, I do dye my hair and it does not look work well with it, it actually strips the color out of my hair

I use this to spray on sections of my hair during flat ironing and it makes my hair feel coarse and stick. I'm going to use it up as fast as I can so I can go back to using my other stuff, which makes my hair much softer and shinier. It may work great on other hair types, just not mine.

Tried to use this twice. Possibly my hair is too fine for this product but it made my hair sticky and unmanageable. I'm confused because this item has good ratings but I really did not see any benefit and returned it.

I have long thick hair I spray this all over after a shower and then blow dry my hair with a round brush. Literally takes 5 min for full head (normally takes 20 min)

I use this EVERYDAY to protect my hair from flat iron or curling iron. BEST PURCHASE I've made in a while! Worth EVERY penny.

Even if I don't use heat which is what it is intended for I will use it after a shower to reduce frizz in my hair.

I was doing it all wrong. I applied it to wet hair and I sprayed it all over and when I straightened my hair it would become incredibly stiff and crunchy. I have now figured out that you MUST dry your hair first and then apply the spray in SECTIONS 8-10 inches away, comb it through, and straighten afterwards. My hair is not crunchy, stiff or tangled. I was just doing it wrong.

I just started trying Chi products. So far, I like all that I tried except for Iron Guard. It leaves my hair very dry and at times sticky. I returned the product for a refund.

I had severely heat damaged hair for the longest time but ever since I started using this before using any heat I've noticed my hair stays healthier longer after cuts.

I've been using this product for about 12 years now and it is phenomenal. Some people say it dries the hair out/feels like hairspray - it does UNLESS you comb it through your hair before it dries (you should comb all products through the hair for even distribution). Also, this is an iron guard spray, not a blowdry product, so even though it says you can put in wet hair, it's best on dry hair right before using an iron.

Due to my very fine hair, I need this to help form curls with the curling iron. Without this spray my curls just fall flat after curling

When I first applied it I was like the reviews were true that it does make the hair dry! But after I straightened my hair and everything is done my hair went back to normal!! And it smells really nice. So it makes the hair dry only at first then it will be all good after.

It left my hair very dry and felt stiff and crunchy. The smell was nice, but I won't purchase again

I tried this, I just got my hair cut and this product left so much hair on my 3" round brush, the sink, the vanity counter, on my shirt, my arms. I got 4 out of 7 sections done and I was like *puts plastic cap back on and put it back in the ulta bag with the reciept* the worst for my hair. Also left my hair extremely hot to the touch. Two products that do work through many trials and exchanges, OUAI HAIR OIL & bumble and Bumble invisible oil Heat/UV protective Primer. Give that duo a try my dudes!

The only decent thing about this product is the scent. Once the product dries in your hair, it becomes crunchy and you have to rake a comb through it to distribute. Once you brush it through the hair, it is somehow left feeling both sticky and dry??? Can't even comment on how well it protects from heat since I can't even see past how gross it makes my hair feel. I've never hated a product so passionately....

This is the first heat protectant spray I ever used and always stuck with it. I decided to branch out and try others. Some more expensive some less...always went back to this one. This is the best heat protectant there is.
