• Romansia is the softer end of the Afnan oil range. No oud, no smoke, nothing challenging - which is exactly why it works as a first attar for someone used to Western perfume.
• It opens on orange blossom and pear. The pear is the surprise: juicy and a little green, it keeps the orange blossom from going soapy the way white florals sometimes do. Bright, and unusually fresh for a concentrated oil.
• The heart is musk and amber, and this is where it turns warm. The amber gives it body, the musk keeps it soft rather than heavy. It's a comfortable middle stretch, not a dramatic one.
• Vanilla, cedarwood and more musk make up the base. The vanilla is restrained - it reads creamy rather than sugary and the cedar underneath keeps the whole thing from tipping into dessert territory. Expect hours on skin, longer on fabric.
• Alcohol-free, so there's no sharp opening and no evaporation. One or two drops on the wrists is a full application. The bottle is gold filigree over red glass, embossed with the Romansia name. 0.67 fl oz.
