What is the difference between the No.4 Fine Bond Olaplex shampoo and conditioner and the No.5 Fine Bond?
- Asked by Jo
- Official Answer By Olaplex - Brand EngageNo.4 Fine Bond is the shampoo, designed to gently cleanse while adding lightweight volume and body for fine hair. No.5 Fine Bond is the conditioner, which provides hydration, detangling, and lightweight nourishment without weighing the hair down. Both are formulated for fine hair, but the shampoo cleanses while the conditioner moisturizes and softens. Was this answer helpful to you

The Conditioner That Finally Gives Fine Hair Volume and Stre
Hair Type Wavy Hair
The No.5FINE Bond Maintenance® Volumizing and Strengthening Conditioner is an impressive companion to the No.4FINE Shampoo and a standout conditioner in its own right—especially for those with fine, thinning, or easily weighed-down hair. Conditioners are often the trickiest step for fine hair routines, as many formulas either don't provide enough moisture or leave hair flat and greasy. This conditioner manages to strike the perfect balance between lightweight hydration, volume, and strength. What immediately sets No.5FINE apart is that it's designed specifically with fine hair in mind while still delivering Olaplex's signature bond-repair technology. Fine hair is more prone to breakage and damage from heat styling, coloring, and environmental stress, and this conditioner actively works to repair and reinforce weakened strands from the inside out. Instead of masking damage, it helps improve hair integrity over time. The texture of the conditioner is silky and smooth but noticeably lighter than traditional rich conditioners. It spreads easily through the hair without feeling heavy, and a small amount goes a long way—especially when applied from mid-lengths to ends. After rinsing, my hair felt instantly softer and more manageable, but never coated or limp. That alone makes it a win for anyone who struggles with flatness after conditioning. One of the most noticeable benefits is how well it detangles without weighing hair down. Fine hair can be delicate and prone to snapping during brushing, and I noticed significantly less breakage when combing through my hair after washing. Over continued use, my hair felt stronger and more resilient, with fewer flyaways and less frizz—yet it still maintained movement and bounce. Volume is where No.5FINE truly shines. Unlike many conditioners that undo the lift achieved during shampooing, this one actually supports volume. My hair felt fuller and looked thicker once dried, especially at the roots, even when I skipped styling products. The ends felt smooth and healthy, not wispy or over-softened. Blowouts held their shape longer, and my hair didn't collapse throughout the day. Another major plus is that this conditioner is color-safe, sulfate-free, and free of parabens and phthalates, making it suitable for chemically treated hair. I noticed improved shine and a smoother overall appearance, which made my hair look healthier and more polished. It also works well for daily use without buildup, something that's crucial for fine hair routines. The scent is clean, light, and refined—very similar to the shampoo. It feels luxurious and salon-quality without being overpowering or lingering too long. When used together with the No.4FINE Shampoo, the two create a well-rounded system that delivers strength, volume, and softness in equal measure. What I appreciate most about the No.5FINE Conditioner is that it proves you don't have to sacrifice volume for hydration. It conditions effectively while maintaining body, which is rare for fine hair products. After several weeks of consistent use, my hair felt healthier overall, with improved texture, reduced breakage, and a noticeable boost in fullness. While it does sit at a higher price point, the performance and results make it a worthwhile investment—especially if you've struggled to find a conditioner that works with fine hair instead of against it. The thoughtful formulation and long-term strengthening benefits set it apart from standard volumizing conditioners. Overall, the No.5FINE Bond Maintenance® Volumizing and Strengthening Conditioner is an excellent choice for anyone with fine or thinning hair who wants softness, strength, and volume without heaviness. It delivers on its promises and earns a permanent spot in a fine-hair care routine.
Amazing
Hair Type Wavy Hair
I've been using the OLAPLEX No.5 FINE Bond Maintenance Conditioner together with the matching shampoo, and the results have been genuinely impressive. Conditioners made for fine hair usually leave me choosing between moisture and volume — I either get softness but flat roots, or lightness but no real hydration. This formula finally feels like the perfect in-between. It has a lightweight, silky texture that spreads easily through the hair without needing a huge amount, and it rinses out cleanly without leaving that heavy, coated feel. What stands out the most is how effectively it hydrates while still keeping my hair lifted and bouncy. My ends look smoother and healthier, and the overall softness is noticeable without compromising volume. The bond-repair benefits are also clear: my hair feels stronger, with fewer tangles and less breakage when brushing. Even after air-drying, my strands look more polished and controlled, but never weighed down. This conditioner really shines for anyone with fine or easily flattened hair who still needs real nourishment and repair. It adds slip, softness, and strength, but keeps everything light, airy, and full of movement. When used with the No.4 FINE shampoo, the results are even better. Overall, it's a great option for achieving healthy, hydrated, and strengthened hair while maintaining natural volume. Product was received as part of an educational promotion.
Too Heavy and Left My Hair Feeling Coated
Hair Type Very Curly Hair
I was gifted the No.5 Fine Bond Maintenance Volumizing and Strengthening Conditioner for my honest review, and sadly it didn't work for my hair. Even with a light application and thorough rinsing, it left a heavy, coated feeling that made my hair seem weighed down instead of soft or volumized. I really appreciate getting to try it, but this conditioner just wasn't a good fit for my hair type.
an excellent repairing conditioner that delivers real result
I've been using Olaplex No.5 for some time now, and it truly lives up to the brand's reputation. The formula is rich yet lightweight, leaving my hair soft, smooth, and noticeably stronger after each wash. It helps reduce frizz and dryness, especially on the ends, and makes my hair look much healthier overall. What I love most is that it actually repairs damage rather than just masking it. After regular use, I noticed less breakage and more shine — my hair feels revived and easier to manage. I recommend applying it mainly to the mid-lengths and ends to avoid weighing the roots down. A little goes a long way, so the bottle lasts quite a while. It's definitely on the higher end price-wise, but the results are worth it if your hair is dry, color-treated, or heat-damaged.
Would be a great product if it actually conditioned my hair
This product does make my hair look a lot thicker abd fuller. It just does not feel like i used any conditioner and my hair looks dry and unhealthy after using this product.
