Position the brush horizontally, with one of the reservoirs facing your lashes, as close to the root as possible.

I ended up returning this. The brush is too big to use on the lower lash line without creating an absolute mess. It comes out of the tube with WAY too much product on it, which you have to wipe off every time before applying to your lashes. While it did create more length and volume for my lashes and was easy to remove at the end of the day, it wasn't worth the long, messy application process. Also - this mascara flaked horribly on me. I would recommend trying their Length & Strength mascara instead... that one has minimal flaking, easier application and a small brush, buildable volume, gives nice length and separation, and comes off easily at the end of the day.
