Most Helpful Positive Review My curly hair has never looked so good For the past 10 years I have been using DC styling products. Few months ago I switched to Curlsmith-- and just recently I finally perfected their styling technique. My heir has never, ever looked so good. I have what my stylist refers to as "cherub curls": fine hair that can be styled into beautiful ringlets, but which tends to loose it's curl after a day or two of not styling. I use this product with other curlsmith products. Finally I have mastered my stylist's technique and every day my hair looks like it does when I walk out of the salon-- gorgeous, voluminous, smooth and frizz-free curls. After 43 years, I am confident I will never have another bad hair day again, and I love, love, love my hair.
Most Helpful Critical Review Not for me After i saw the reviews and the natural ingredients i decided to buy it, my curls looked natural, frizz free, smells good ,the only problem is that it leaves white residue in the hair, i thought it was dandruff then I use it on my son who doesn't have dandruff and he came back from school with his hair full of white residue

This product smelled real good but it made my hair feel like straw by day 2. I had to super moisturize my hair for 3 days after to get it back to normal. I wanted to like it but I didnt. i returned it. I will stay with my regular product. I dont recommend it.
New Curly Girl 5

i have 3a, high porosity, low density hair and I've tried a lot of different types of products to enhance & hold my curls. I saw this product used in a few CGM videos on YouTube & decided to try it. I. Love. It. It holds my hair with just a light crunch cast that actually does scrunch right out, leaving me with soft, bouncy, shiny curls. And it smells incredible! I highly recommend this product, especially over other gels that leave a heavy cast that is nearly impossible to scrunch without tearing your hair out! Thanks Curlsmith!
Great product!!! 5

I purchased the stronger curl hold after I had already purchased the lighter weight one. I like them both but feel like the stronger curl hold works better for me. It's not sticky or heavy. I would would highly recommend both versions of this product!
the smell and ease of use for this product is great. 5

This gel is great when applied fresh out of the shower. No flaking, which is great for dark hair.
Does Not Hold My Curls At All 1
Paige from Raleigh, NC
Honestly, LA Looks blue gel performs a thousand times better than this. Maybe I expected to get a gel cast from this, which I cannot seem to get. It does not hold my curls. I'd almost be better off using nothing.
Fantastic! 5

For my fine, wavy hair, a little goes a long way. This product really helps define my waves and holds them all day!
Okay Product 3

I bought this along with the gelee. I definitely prefer this product; it holds well, not too much crunch, and gives my waves/curls decent definition. I will finish the bottle, but most likely won't buy again. It's just mediocre. I love the smell though!
I pair this with the Oil-In-Cream 4
Crybaby from Texas
This is now a go-to for me! I'm only giving this product 4 stars though, because I first use the Oil-in-Cream, then I wet my hair more and go in with the styling soufflé. I like it's consistency, because it's like a gel but doesn't weigh my hair down. I've never used this product by itself, but my 2C/3A hair needs more than just a soufflé. I recommend buying a travel size to test the product, since this brand is on the pricier side.
I would use this in between say every few weeks 3

Horrible 1
ericav330 from Miami, FL
I wanted to try something different for my hair. I have mostly thick wavy hair with some curls mixed in. As soon as I put this on my hair it made my hair feel super dry. I let the product air dry and it was horrible. It left my hair looking like straw. It was so hard and stringy. I tried to break the cast like it says and it wouldn't budge. And no, I did not even put a lot on at all. It also left my hair very frizzy and puffy. I returned it. Save your money.

I use a little dab on my wet hair after washing. No more frizz and my curls look great.

Going in the Trash 1

Received this as a freebie at the store with the purchase of some other Curlsmith products, and I'm grateful I didn't spend money on it. I like the smell of the other Curlsmith products in this 'moisture recipe' line, and this smells similar, so that's a plus. The only plus. I have 3c/4a low-porosity hair, for those who find that info useful, and this styling souffle made it very frizzy (poofy, really), dry/brittle-feeling, and crunchy at the ends. I do really like their oil-in-cream product - it defines and moisturizes my curls and, if I wear a scarf or sleep cap, they'll last for days with only some water and a smidge more product to set for the day. That can get heavy and waxy-feeling if I use too much, but even then, I have so much volume to my hair naturally, that it's not much of a bother. All this to give you a general idea about what works for my hair (or not) and why. Maybe it'll help you sort out what to try.
I used it after applying LUS leavin styler in curly in 4 sec 5

Great for Twist-outs and Wash n Gos 5
bubblyarielly from Colton, CA
I started out using this product for twist outs and it works great. After using my leave in conditioner, I apply this in small sections, use my denman brush to smooth my hair and remove any stubborn tangles, and twist! It creates nice defined curls that aren't crunchy or too dry with the perfect amount of hold. The definition lasts for at least week, and I can make the style last longer if I leave my hair in twists for a few days before separating them.
I recently started doing wash n gos and this product helped my natural curls pop as well. I've found I do need to use a cream styler and oil (LCO method) before using this gel for the best wash n go results; otherwise, my curls are dry and I experience more shrinkage. The product provides definition and hold I can't get from a cream styler alone.
The product smells nice out the bottle, though the scent isn't lasting once it's in your hair. The gel does have a clumpy but slippery consistency, so it's helpful to emulsify it by rubbing it between your hands before applying it to your hair. While this is more expensive than other products out there, it works consistently for me no matter the style, so I think it's worth it.
I have thick, medium length, 4a hair that tends to be very dry. I tend to be more heavy handed with product.
Not understanding the hype 2
MegMill from Raleigh, NC
I love curlsmith! Every product I've tried I love!! However this product right here I don't understand the hype. It's clumpy gel that's hard to apply to hair. I gather it and apply using the praying hand method and it just goes on as clumps of gel. I feel like it's not even getting applied to my actual hair.
Maybe it's the consistency for me but I just couldn't get with it.

It's a great product once you learn what works. I lightly towel dry my hair. I don't leave it soaking wet like the bottle says. Then I part my hair like usual and separate two sections of my hair. I rub a nickel size amount in hands and apply to one side by lightly scrunching all over. Then I do the prayer hands and really rub it in. That usually makes your hair go straight so I lightly scrunch again. I do the same thing on the other side. I let it air dry but have to flip my hair every 15 mins or so. Whenever it seems a lil drier I flip it carefully to the side or forward or wherever it seems necessary. If not exposed to humidity while my hair is wet then my hair looks absolutely fantastic. I live in a high humidity city but I got this during fall so it hasn't passed the big humidity test. For now it's great. I bought a travel size early October and now almost out and will go back to get more soon. And yes the smell is strong but I love it and normally I don't like a strong scent
On my 2nd purchase, don't get the jar 4
New Curl Navigator from Denver
I really do like this stuff. I have medium density, high porosity, thin 2b-3b hair. I only found out I made it to 3b when I added this to the cowash and styling balm in the same line, and then put them in the right order (I'm still kinda new to CG/curl care). Even though the label says to use a generous amount per section, using a quarter size in total worked much better for me, and cut the drying time down. The only reason this particular size doesn't get 5 stars, is that the consistency of the product doesn't mesh well with the jar it comes in. I lost a bunch of the stuff to the shower floor just trying to scoop it out. I ended up using a spoon for assistance.
I really like the Curlsmith brand, but between my own experience, and reading reviews from other products, the major drawback is the packing/containers that house the products. The other sizes of the souffle are much easier to use.
BEST GEL EVER 5
Madison from Utah
I love this stuff. I got the travel size and this stuff is heaven. It has a stronger hold than an 8 I think. It lasts so long with minimum refreshing. You will not regret
This stuff is amazing - when I use it the right way! 5

So, the second ingredient in this product is glycerin - which is an amazing humectant *when used properly*! If you're using this and the dew points are super low or super high, it's probably going to look bad. I can't use this when it's humid out otherwise my hair is a weird ball of frizz, and I instead reach for the Curlsmith Aqua Gel, which has very little glycerin. However, when the dew points are between 30-60 F (the optimal range for strong humectants), this stuff works literal miracles on my hair. It has a way stronger hold than 5 in my experience, and it makes my hair incredibly shiny and defined after I break up the cast (which is usually pretty easy to do). It's one of the few products that I can use as a single styler - major win for lazy days - and also has some pretty solid curl enhancing abilities, as my "wavier" waves tend to form up into curls. The scent is fine, not my favorite thing on earth, but it's not unbearable and tends to fade over wash day. 10/10 product when used at the right time. Also, Swavy Curly Courtney on YouTube has a couple great videos on glycerin, which have totally changed the game for me in what products I use when.

3c Curl Pattern and No! 1
Frizzzzzz from Oklahoma
I followed the instructions and this product is not worth $27. I first tried it by letting my hair air dry and the 2nd time with a diffuser on my blow dryer. Both times it was minimal curl definition and a LOT of frizz. My hair was soft but that's about it.
