How long is this lipstick good for after it is opened?

Some products include a Period After Opening (PAO) number (which shows a number followed by “M”) that indicates the number of months within which an opened product should be used or replaced. Once a product is opened and used, its integrity can be affected by such things as exposure to environmental conditions or from contact with the user’s skin. Misleading descriptions: texture and color
TEXTURE: The product description says this lipstick has a "feel of a balm", so I was led to expect something more moisturizing that glides on your lips easily, perhaps like Fresh Sugar lip. Love the color and somewhat stays on, but it's a bit soft and doesn't last especially for the money
6 year old batch code, clearly expired
Shade: Italian Rose. It's a lovely color, but the smell and taste were horrific and that was only for the few seconds I unwittingly put on a lipstick that was made (per the batch code) 6 years and 1 month ago. This shouldn't be allowed. I imagine it might be shade specific, as I've only seen a few reviews citing this same issue. But this wasn't just a "smells like crayons" issue - it was beyond spoiled. Looked fine - did not apply well and the smell all but knocked me out. I plan to exchange at a local Ulta in hopes they have a more recent batch.
