Scent Thag Evokes a Story
I'm not going to lie, but there is some serious poetry going on in this bottle of Tom Ford Costa Azzurra. I like it when a scent evokes a story in my mind, so the combination of earthy citrus reminds me of afternoon sunlight and sharp shadows elongated in a lemon grove—and, for whatever reason, there's an ornate fountain nearby. The woodsy and citrusy scents here (think almost a lemony version of Jo Malone Orange Bitters), mix with a bit more smoky amber inspired musk. The musky note is what confuses me most about this fragrance, so I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. When I first spray it on, the musk smell is very pronounced, almost sharp and sweaty to the point of being unpleasant. However, the cool thing about Costa Azzurra is that it blends on my skin and mellows into exactly the kind of fragrance I enjoy the most. The citrus aspect of the fragrance is definitely more lemon leaning than orange—but luckily Tom Ford lemons do not in any way resemble dish soap. The longer the fragrance is on my skin, the more smoky it becomes, which is a pleasant and most welcome surprise. I am not the kind of person that distinguishes between a daytime and nighttime fragrance, so personally I wear this throughout the day. But if you think Black Opium is too much for daytime, then you might think Costa Azzurra is a more nighttime "sexy" fragrance as well. The more I smell it (after it's mellowed), the more I enjoy the scent—it's strangely addictive in that way.
I find it helps to know the kinds of fragrances people like the most, so you can tell if you share similar tastes. Fragrance notes I enjoy the most are: fireplace smoky, citrus, green, amber, and vanilla. (In general, I enjoy more "masculine" scents, (whatever that is worth) and I identify as a cisgendered woman. Also, I was sent this product for free from Influenster for in exchange for a review.
Smells nice, but overpowering
I can't begin to describe how excited I was to receive the Tom Ford Costa Azzurra fragrance in the mail! My most-favorite fragrance ever is the Tom Ford Metallique, so I was hoping it might be similar in quality.
I'm someone who doesn't wear perfume on a daily basis, and I prefer the scent to not be overpowering. Just something you catch from time to time, that makes you smile, makes you feel good. I also like the idea of a scent not being gender-specific.
When I first smelled Costa Azzurra, I thought it was pleasant enough, but it does that a tint of "the smell" that nags a bit and can cause a headache. I think it really depends on the individual though, and I'm sadly one of those individuals. While I think the scent is really, really nice, I couldn't get past that one note that my nose doesn't seem to like.
I do think I'll keep wearing it to see if it's a scent that can grow on me since I do quite like it otherwise. It makes me think "clean and woodsy," with a touch of "this is a little overpowering." I really wish I could place that one scent that bothers me aside.
Perfect for summer
This has been my go to all summer, living in Florida This is great during the day for drinks with friends last you all the way through to the night
One of my favorite fragrances
One of the few bottles I've ever finished entirely. Great, refreshing scent. Easy to wear and like. Never had any once complain about the scent either.
Not unisex to me
This is billed as a unisex fragrance so I wanted to give it a try. However, it very much smells like typical woody men's cologne to me, which is not something I enjoy on myself. I actually wiped it off right away but it still lingered. I'm decluttering this to my partner who has been enjoying it.
Both my husband and I really like this! I have used it a few times and find it can work for me but he uses it more often - and he's not even a fragrance guy! I do with it had a bit more lasting power but it's overall great!
Tom Ford is a FAVE
I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review.
I was SO surprised and excited when this showed up in my mailbox. I LOVE the other two TF scents I have, and I knew this would also be loved.
It smells SO good in the bottle, I couldn't wait to try it. I tried it on myself first, and while it is lovely, it just doesn't quite do it for me like my other two TF scents. It's just a little to musky for me, personally.
No worries tho, as I had my S.O. try it out, and WOW. It just WORKS on him. It's musky, it's bright, it's fresh, and simple and complex all at the same time. If you're looking for a great new scent, especially for the fall or winter, give this one a try. You won't regret.
