Most Helpful Positive Review My curly hair has never looked so good
For the past 10 years I have been using DC styling products. Few months ago I switched to Curlsmith-- and just recently I finally perfected their styling technique. My heir has never, ever looked so good. I have what my stylist refers to as "cherub curls": fine hair that can be styled into beautiful ringlets, but which tends to loose it's curl after a day or two of not styling. I use this product with other curlsmith products. Finally I have mastered my stylist's technique and every day my hair looks like it does when I walk out of the salon-- gorgeous, voluminous, smooth and frizz-free curls. After 43 years, I am confident I will never have another bad hair day again, and I love, love, love my hair.
Most Helpful Critical Review Not for me
After i saw the reviews and the natural ingredients i decided to buy it, my curls looked natural, frizz free, smells good ,the only problem is that it leaves white residue in the hair, i thought it was dandruff then I use it on my son who doesn't have dandruff and he came back from school with his hair full of white residue

Too expensive it did not work at all. So I wouldn't recommend it.
DON'T waste your money on this!!
Su from SF
Idk how this has such amazing rating but don't waste money on this. This is terrible. It made my hair so stringy and frizzy with no definition clumps. I tried it a few different ways but just did not work. Thank God I could return it!!
Definitely not for my hair
Taylor from Huntington Beach, CA
Not good for my fine, 2b hair. It creates a pretty hard cast which can be difficult to break around the scalp. I find it difficult to work with. I style in the shower and plop after but it's difficult to get the gummy product on my hands from the container without dropping and wasting it. It's hard to get a consistent amount of product out since you have to dig it out of the container and it's all in a big blob like gelatin. It potentially can make my curls look nice but my hair is not touchable after. Meaning I can't really style it once dry (sometimes I need to put it up at work) and my hair feels really filmy (leaving a weird residue on my fingers too). I'm going to try the air dry cream and light gel instead of this. My guess is this would be better for coily or kinky hair not so much wavy and curly hair. Or maybe more coarse hair and not fine hair.

If you use too much it makes hair very stiff
Jen K from Oregon
There is definitely a learning curve with this product. The first time I used it, I used way too much and it took forever to dry, and my curls were wonky and coated feeling. I had to use a FRACTION of what the directions recommend- just enough to coat the palms of my hands (I even added a spray of water to cut it a bit) and scrunched it into SOAKING WET hair. A little goes a LONG way. I echo other reviewers on dry time - I have to diffuse for at least 5- 10 minutes (typically I air dry) to get it going. But once I figured out how to use it on MY hair, I love it. Best definition I've had - shiny, soft hair and helps tame the frizz.
This is the only gel I use on my hair
Vero from Texas
This is my all time favorite gel/hold product I've ever used and I've put four other people onto this product because it's that good. First off the smell is amazing I love the scent of all of the curl smith products I've tried so far. This product a little bit goes a long way I tried the travel size bottle first and it lasted me a solid four months because it feels so concentrated. What I do is on wet hair after leave in conditioner I take a small pea size amount sometimes less and speed it around my hands and use the praying hands method to smooth it into my hair and then I brush with a denman to clump my hair and then scrunch a little bit and let it air dry. This stuff does leave a cast but it's so easy to scrunch out and it doesn't leave any flakes or heavy feeling in my hair I'm just left with glossy, bouncy, frizz free curls it's AMAZING! The best product I've ever used on my hair it doesn't feel like or look like I have product in my hair I can't recommend this stuff enough.
Cast queen from Las Vegas
It gives me a build up on my hair that I do no like. Even if I crunch out the cast it feels too stiff for my liking and leaves white flakes behind.
I would recommend
Meg from Grand Rapids, mi
I've been using ouidad for years, I figured I would experiment and check out a new product, I've got fine 3A curly hair, frizzy too. So I tried the styling soufflé and as it dried, my hair turned so hard and crunchy. I tried breaking the case but I think this was just a little too strong for my hair type.
Hate it for waves
Hannah from OR
I absolutely hated this for my 2b waves. I've tried several different methods of applying and styling this gel and they were all awful. When using a TINY amount, I'm talking the size of like a fingertip, and distributing it through my hair praying hands method on soaking wet hair, then scrunching and air drying it leaves my hair extremely frizzy and poofy. When I use more product and use the same method it literally straightens my hair and makes it gummy once dried. Zero hold. Zero cast. Zero stars for wavy hair.
KelW from San Clemente, CA
This product is awful. I am so happy I only bought the travel size. I have lots of wavy/loose curls. Made my hair look like I dumped a gallon of gel on it. Flat, stringy and straw like.
shellybelly from Southern California
First time I tried it, I didn't use enough, so my results weren't great. Since then I've used it 2 more times. I have a lot of thick hair so using more product definitely was better for my type of hair. I wash my hair every other day, so I don't go as long as so many other curly's I see who have amazing results far into the week. I wish I could. I look forward to trying more of their products.
Frizz free curls that last for days
Cheetah from CO
This product is magic! I wash my hair, then squeeze the water out.... do NOT wrap in a towel. Your hair needs to be pretty wet to get the best effect. Next - I put about a tablespoon of it in my hands. Start just below the ears, and work the product through to the ends using only my fingers. Once it is evenly distributed, I spread the residual product over the top of my head... finger comb it through. Now, you wait. DO NOT touch your hair again until after it is dry (takes a few hours). Once dry, you can "fluff" your hair. That's it.... I get a cascade of mermaid curls that last for days, even in very high humidity.
Love the brand, but...

Love the brand ,gave 5 stars to the other products, but this did not work for my hair ,was too heavy
Finally! Something that works for my curls!
Alex from Topeka, Kansas
I'm always hesitant to buy a new product without a personal recommendation because they're quite expensive. But, this turned out to be a risk that was worth it. I used a combination of the Style Balm and the Souffle and then diffused to dry. I don't have super curly hair - it's thick, coarse and more wavy with a few curls than anything. The balm/souffle combo did the trick though. I don't know that I've ever seen such defined curls in my hair! The products are very light and don't weigh my hair down a bit. I still wish it was less expensive, but I suspect that I've found my new go-to styling product and will purchase this again and again.
The miracle product all curly hair needs!
nalexis13 from CA
A little goes a long way, it did take a few tries to figure out what my hair likes. I use in soaking hair, prayer hands method on sections, then I plop my hair in a microfiber towel to soak out water. Scrunch a little after about 5 minutes, air dry. Scrunch again when fully dry. I do need more moitsture so I will be trying with other curlsmith products (going to attempt oil-in cream with the above).
The souffle did not work for me, but 2 other products did
CarrieB from Phoenix, AZ
This Souffle did not work for me. Left my curls too crunchy. Best combo in this line would be the In Shower Style Fixer with the Hold Me Softly Style Balm. Love the curl, bounce and no frizz with these 2 products.
I try a lot..
The Connoisseur from Lebanon, Pa
I basically call myself a hair product connoisseur. I have a wave to my hair without products. This has helped keep the curl! I'm on day two without washing my hair and it hasn't gone flat like most products I've tried. Definitely would get again!
The gel cast won't break up!
AmberT from NJ
I tried this with soaking wet hair, after I applied the hold me softly style balm and still the gel cast is not breaking up. I also tried this product with an oil, and also by itself. No matter what I do this product just leaves my hair looking wet and stringy and with a horrible cast. Please if anyone can tell me what I'm doing wrong let me know because I have two containers of this stuff!
My curls look so good!
Bren09 from Inland Empire
I went into Ulta because I was all out of my normal hair care product. It wasn't in stock that day so I decided to try this one. This product has saved my hair during a heatwave by adding moisture. My curls look defined and healthy. I absolutely love the souffle and I look forward to trying other products!
I use it after I am done showering, as stated in the directions. After applying, I brush my hair upside down with my Denman brush. The texture is almost like a custard.
Kari G from Minnesota
After struggling for YEARS to find something to tame my frizzy 3a hair without weighing it down, I found this and couldn't be happier! I applied the hold me softly balm to soaking wet hair, then used the soufflé, plopped, then dried with a diffuser. My curls are touchably soft, springy & defined. Plus, this line is CGM approved. So SO happy!
Nat from Warwick,NY
I used this for the first time today and WOW! What a major difference! I usually use a cream for my hair, but this gel was amazing. My hair dried a bit hard, but a quick scrunch softened everything up. There was no residue once my hair dried. And a little goes a long way! My hair did not frizz in this August weather. I'm in veterinary medicine, so I'm constantly moving, handling patients, and going outside and my hair lasted. I also got many compliments from my coworkers as well.
Looks and smells like cotton candy!
Gaga from Denver
I bought the three-step system… Curl quenching conditioning wash, moisture memory reactivated, curl defining styling soufflé. I had seen a u-tube reviewer who said it took five tries before she liked the product and then she loved it it. So, I was prepared to give it a chance. I am on trail number three and I am still disappointed! It's very difficult to figure out how much of the styling soufflé to use. Last time I used it my hair looked really good but it still maintained a crunchy feeling that I don't like. This time I put in too much of the styling soufflé and could not get the crunch to break up. I thought it would be helpful if I was in high humidity so I did not wash it out. OMG! In high humidity my hair looked, felt and smelled like cotton candy!! Awful!
Love this product
Shell from Baltimore, Md
This product really holds my curls and hair doesn't look frizzy. Great smell too
Great for gel casts
Seb from Seattle
I bought this because the mousse I'd been using left my hair looking greasy. This product was great to gel cast my curls, a little goes a long way, & when I broke the cast my hair just looked fresh and clean with no residue. Super soft curls. Love it!
Keeps my curls going for days!

I was looking for an alternative to DevaCurl products because they're so expensive and tried this out in conjunction with the "Moisture Memory Reactivator" and I'm fully converted. I really dislike the smell (candy shop at the mall), hence the 4 star review, but the product works so well that I will continue to use it.
After I shower and towel dry my hair (it's still fairly damp when I take the towel off), I spray on the Moisture Memory Reactivator and scrunch my hair a little to spread the product. I then apply the Curl Defining Styling Souffle. For this step, I don't use the suggested "praying hands" method on the label (doing this always results in frizzy curls for me). I simply dip my hand in the jar and evenly spread the product on my hand. Then I apply to hair (flip my head down and start at the ends, scrunching, work my way up). I barely need any product at all and have hair past my shoulders (so the 8oz jar I bought will last much longer than my DevaCurl products).
I was really surprised by how defined, shiny, and voluminous my curls were. I'm really happy with the product. The curls retain their shape even after sleeping on them (and I don't use a sleeping cap or silk pillowcases). This was never the case with DevaCurl (in the morning, my curls were flat and stringy). I noticed that even after swimming in the river, when my curls dry, they're much more defined than before using this product. Anyway, buy it but skip their Curl Quenching Conditioning Wash (no noticeable benefit).
