Most Helpful Positive Review My curly hair has never looked so good
For the past 10 years I have been using DC styling products. Few months ago I switched to Curlsmith-- and just recently I finally perfected their styling technique. My heir has never, ever looked so good. I have what my stylist refers to as "cherub curls": fine hair that can be styled into beautiful ringlets, but which tends to loose it's curl after a day or two of not styling. I use this product with other curlsmith products. Finally I have mastered my stylist's technique and every day my hair looks like it does when I walk out of the salon-- gorgeous, voluminous, smooth and frizz-free curls. After 43 years, I am confident I will never have another bad hair day again, and I love, love, love my hair.
Most Helpful Critical Review Not for me
After i saw the reviews and the natural ingredients i decided to buy it, my curls looked natural, frizz free, smells good ,the only problem is that it leaves white residue in the hair, i thought it was dandruff then I use it on my son who doesn't have dandruff and he came back from school with his hair full of white residue

I bought this because the mousse I'd been using left my hair looking greasy. This product was great to gel cast my curls, a little goes a long way, & when I broke the cast my hair just looked fresh and clean with no residue. Super soft curls. Love it!
Keeps my curls going for days!

I was looking for an alternative to DevaCurl products because they're so expensive and tried this out in conjunction with the "Moisture Memory Reactivator" and I'm fully converted. I really dislike the smell (candy shop at the mall), hence the 4 star review, but the product works so well that I will continue to use it.
After I shower and towel dry my hair (it's still fairly damp when I take the towel off), I spray on the Moisture Memory Reactivator and scrunch my hair a little to spread the product. I then apply the Curl Defining Styling Souffle. For this step, I don't use the suggested "praying hands" method on the label (doing this always results in frizzy curls for me). I simply dip my hand in the jar and evenly spread the product on my hand. Then I apply to hair (flip my head down and start at the ends, scrunching, work my way up). I barely need any product at all and have hair past my shoulders (so the 8oz jar I bought will last much longer than my DevaCurl products).
I was really surprised by how defined, shiny, and voluminous my curls were. I'm really happy with the product. The curls retain their shape even after sleeping on them (and I don't use a sleeping cap or silk pillowcases). This was never the case with DevaCurl (in the morning, my curls were flat and stringy). I noticed that even after swimming in the river, when my curls dry, they're much more defined than before using this product. Anyway, buy it but skip their Curl Quenching Conditioning Wash (no noticeable benefit).
definitely not with the money

followed instructions on the jar. discussed my hair and i literally looked like a wet dog. idk just not for me. wouldn't recommend
Love everything but...

Similarly to a lot of these reviews I LOVE the way this product performs, it smells amazing, perfect amount of hold, love the ingredients. And contrary to a few reviews I actually don't mind the drying time, I find the longer my hair takes to dry with a product, the more my hair is hydrated. HOWEVER my biggest downfalls for this product is 1) the cost for only 8oz of product, and 2) the packaging/texture of the product. The texture makes it IMPOSSIBLE TO APPLY, so much goes down the drain, it just doesn't liquify and instead just turns into smaller chunks that fall out of my hand when I go to apply it to my hair. Feels like so much money down the drain and if it wasn't for these two factors this would be my holy grail :(
Lightweight curl defining product, great for sensitive skin

I have used this product for a few weeks now for a natural curly hair style. It's amazing! It's not sticky, doesn't flake, leaves curls bouncy and moisturized.
Cast and dry time
Em from Indy
Not a fan of the fact that I'm scooping it out of a jar, first of all. It made it much harder to get the amount I want and need. My hair took FOREVER to dry with this. Any use of heat makes my hair frizz up so diffusing it to speed up the process is not an answer. Lastly, it left a hard cast on my hair that was hard to floof out without a frizzy mess. I think part of that problem was my difficulty regulating how much I used. I do don't hav the flaking that others had.
Amazing for Curl Definition and Anti-frizz!

After reading the reviews I decided to give this product a try, and I love it! The smell is amazing, and the fact that it's all natural with no chemicals, works wonders for my curly hair. For the people complaining about the crunch/stiffness of the product, all you have to do is put LESS. I know it says a dime-sized amount but if you need to put less on each section of your hair, then do so (if that means you won't have stiff hair). Trust me- A LITTLE GOES A LONG WAY. Just keep experimenting with the way you apply it and you'll see excellent results for your hair! 10/10 would recommend. :)
Great if you have the time for the long drying time
Brydie from Chicago
You are supposed to put this product on dripping wet hair and let it air dry or diffuse. I hate the fact that I have to walk around with my hair dripping down my back because I don't want to disrupt my curl pattern. It's just not convenient when you need to get going for the day. It takes a loooong time to dry as well even when you blow dry using a diffuser. So the best way my hair turns out is to use the Curlsmith Cowash, squeeze the water out with a t-shirt, and then put Kenra Air Dry Lotion on my hair. It's cheaper, curls my hair beautifully, no frizz, and dries quickly. On the days I'm not in a hurry I condition my hair using the amazing Curlsmith hydrocreme smoothing mask and then put on the Curlsmith curl defining souffle. I like the souffle but just don't have the time for it to air dry or diffuse in order for it to work its magic. Also, when using the souffle, your hair looks better on the second day.
Flakey mess for my 3c-4b curly household
Stina from NJ
First day hair seemed ok. Definition was popping and minimal frizz. But the next day! Flake city! All along the canopy of my hair. Anywhere the band of my bonnet touched there were white chunky flakes. The only way to conceal them is to wet the hair and smooth to high heaven into a curly bun. On the third day, hair just looks matted and dirty.
I will definitely buy this product again

My hair has never been more frizzy when using this product. My hair is soft however it's a soft bush. No thanks. I did a twist out an hour into the day not even I looked a mess. It was just a curly bush. No thanks.

I've been using so many hair products that I'm now an expert. I got this in the hair event, Iread the instructions very carefully and tried on my toddler daughter. This product is so wonderful, It lets her curls defined and shiny, no frizz, and super soft.

It makes your hair have great definition and worth the hype!!!!!
took a few times, but now I love it
MissiP from Kentucky
the first couple of times I used this product I didn't really care for it... but I wanted to love it so I experimented and found out how to make it work for me. I wash, apply a curl cream (currently using Cake curl cream) plop for 20 or 30 minutes then apply in small amounts in sections (hair is still pretty damp) and scrunch with a t shirt towel. Then I defuse and may apply a tiny bit more as needed for definition. love this product now!
Arizonajazz from Arizona
Wow and double wow. My hair stays incredibly soft. incredibly glossy and talk about a bunch of curls!!! Curls last and last, no flakes, no crispy hair...absolutely love this stuff! It's everything I hoped it would be plus more. Thank you for a superior product!
Love the texture and the curl definition!
kpuffe from New England
I loved the thick, gelatin-like texture of this product, easy to scoop out of the container, recommend rubbing it thoroughly into your palms first (use a little at a time) because it will leave odd clear clumps in your hair if you aren't careful. Didn't notice the clumps on the sparser, shorter (bangs) area of my hair till bedtime and by then they were solid clear globs and not easily removed....hence the 4 star rating instead of 5.
Not for fine hair!!!!!!!
Miriam from Los Angeles, CA
I really wanted to love this!!!!!!
It smells great, the texture is very interesting(almost jello-like, but when you rub it into your palms it becomes gel), and you need very little.
For my fine hair, it didn't do so well. It left my hair weighed down and heavy, and it was very hard to scrunch out the crunch for me. I tried alone with just fingers, added a serum on try and dissipate the crunchy feeling, but my hair ended up stringy and limp.
For someone with thicker and coarser hair than mine, it would be PHENOMENAL!
Waste of money
