When I tell y'all I went into trying this product expecting it to be a complete fail, you know I was beyond shocked when the result was the exact opposite, lol! For reference, I have type 4a, low porosity, medium/high density, color treated natural hair with fine strands, & wash & gos are my go to. That said, I don't typically reach for mousses for wash & gos, but I've have some success & some fails with them. Now when I saw the name of this particular mousse, I immediately prejudged it, lol. I knew I intended to do a wash & go so it being a root lifting mousse led me to believe that it's meant to of course volumize the roots of the hair & as such, I expected it to be extremely lightweight, meaning that it may not be heavy enough to tame my natural, super tight curls. However, the directions stated that it could be used as an all over mousse, so I went for it. I started on clean, towel dried hair that was still slightly damp & sectioned my hair into 4 sections as usual. I then split each of those sections in half, and applied loooaaddssss of the mousse to each subsection (until my hair was drenched in it to the point to where it was almost dripping if not dripping lol) by smoothing it from the roots to the ends of my hair (the praying hands method). The consistency of the mousse was kind of odd lol it splattered out when I sprayed it as if it had a heavy amount of water in it (I got why they said to apply to towel dried hair at that moment lol) and took quite a bit to become a nice lump of mousse lol but that did not bother me. After I applied it to my entire head, I was surprised that my hair actually looked like I may get pretty good results! My curls were defined & pretty separated with minimal frizz, & that is what I typically look for to gauge the possibility of a successful wash & go on wet hair. Not to mention the application process took all of 15 mins which is record time for my hair, lol. After I'd finished applying it to my hair, I sat under my hooded dryer for about 15 mins & my hair felt as though it was completely dry, which is another anomaly since I have low porosity hair, lol. My hair was super crunchy once dry, which I like because it lets me know that the product gave my hair some hold. I then took the serum from this line & used it to remove some of the crunch from my hair, again by applying it using the praying hands method (I always do this with some type of serum or oil to soften crunchy hair). If you don't want a crunch, I'd suggest applying it more lightly or applying a leave in conditioner before applying the mousse. I then stretched my hair with heat using my blow dryer, as I always do on first day hair, to help combat shrinkage/give me more length. This step is usually the step that allows me to gauge just how good the hold is on a styling product. That said, this product gets a 10/10 from me for hold so far as I got very minimal frizz from both applying the serum & stretching my hair. I loved my final results! My hair was shiny, super defined, lightweight & yes, voluminous on day 1 so I'd say this product provides not only root lift, but all over volume if applied that way! (See attachments). The only thing I'd note is that my hair did feel as though it was lacking moisture, but the product does not claim to moisturize hair so I was expecting that. I wanted to use the mousse by itself for the first time to give it a fair shot, but I will probably apply a leave in conditioner underneath the mousse next time for some added moisture (yes, I intend to use it again, lol). Scent wise, it had a chemically scent to me while applying it but it wasn't strong enough/off putting enough to really bother me or cause me to remove a star, and it just smelled like a light, warm floral scent once my hair was dry, which was much better. Overall, this mousse shocked me in a good way lol & I am so happy I gave it a fair shot! My fellow natural girlies, don't be afraid, lol!
Since Pureology did away with a GREAT product, Silk Bodifier I had to find a new product. The hair salon suggested the Root Lifting Hair Mousse. Yuck! This is nothing like the Silk Bodifier. With the Silk Bodifier my hair was soft, SILKY and shiny. With the Root Lifting my ends feel dry and when combing through my hair it tangles and breaks the ends. Why do companies discontinue an amazing product, I will never understand. Pureology you may have lost my business. I am going to try your Clean Volume Mousse but from the reviews I have seen it's not even comparable to the Silk Bodifer. So disappointing. I use to tell my friends about your product the Silk Bodifer and how amazing it is. Definitely will not recommend this product.

This is my daily go-to product for my very fine and thinning hair. Makes it look like I've got a lot more than I actually do. Very happy!

My hair felt heavy and dirty after it was dry. Styling was also a problem. I couldn't get brush to work through my hair easily.

This comes out more liquid than I would like in a mouse even when thoroughly shaken.
