- Start with dry hair and section into manageable areas to work with
- Set iron to the desired temperature for your hair type
- Starting with a single section (about 1"), take iron and open the clamp. Starting at the top (use caution near the scalp), place the section between the barrel & clamp, then close
- With the clamp still closed, twist the iron in an outward direction (away from the face) and continue twisting as you move down the section until it's fully wrapped around the barrel
- PRO TIP: Stop wrapping when you reach the section's last ¼ - ½" so that some ends stay uncurled. This gives you a beachy feel
- Hold the section for 4-8 seconds (depending on hair type) then open the clamp and release
- PRO TIP: Once the section is released from iron, grab section from the bottom with your hand and reform the curl. Either hold it or pin it until it's cool. This helps styles last even longer
- Repeat with remaining sections

Beautiful loose waves
This curling wand creates beautiful loose curls. I am new to using a wand, so there was a slight learning curve, but I quickly got the hang of it. Using a glove is a must for newbies, IMO. My favorite features are the five digital heat settings, an extended barrel, and a tangle-free swivel cord. The oval barrel may look a little goofy, but in the end, it delivers. Gifted by HotTools.

Great product!
I received this product complimentary from Hot Tools in exchange for my honest review. I love this wand! This was my first time trying a curling wand. I'm used to a clamp curling iron, and they are a bit different. It did take me a few times to get the hang of it, but once I did, it was easy then. I love how my curls came out! They are so bouncy, and they lasted that way all throughout the day. When I use a clamp curling iron, my curls would fall before lunchtime. I love how it has an extra-long cool tip and an 8ft swivel cord. All-in-all, I think this works great and would definitely recommend this!
Easier than a curling iron
I've used tapered curling wands in the past, but I am totally loving this new oval shaped wand! It seems to work better on my longer hair and I've found it creates more variety in the curls. I've always had issues with my hair creasing from the clamp on curling irons, so I prefer using a curling wand like this because it's so easy to use. The curls with this come out so gorgeous and effortless (and crease-free!). They fall throughout the day into a tousled loose wave. If it's your first time using a wand, I'd suggest using the glove that comes with it to prevent burning yourself until you get the hang of holding your hair on the barrel. This wand heats up quickly and evenly, and I like that they've changed the temp adjustment from a dial to a button. On my other Hot Tools curling iron, I'm constantly nudging the dial with my hand and changing the temp on accident, but I don't have that problem with this one. I had been needing a curling tool for my hair since I've grown it out longer, and this one definitely checks all the boxes. This was gifted by Hot Tools.
Learning curve but once you get it, beautiful curls
I was excited to try the tapered wand because this barrel make curls look more beachy and flowy due to the shape of the barrel. While that is a positive, I also found it harder to put my hair around the barrel without burning myself. Using this tapered curling wand is definitely a learning curl and I highly recommend to use heat protectant when curling your hair. I will also have to invest in a heat protecting glove when I use this just in case. HOWEVER, I am in love with the look of the curls and I will definitely continue to use this. I was gifted by hottools.
