Most Helpful Positive Review Best Mineral sunscreen for acne-prone skin
Although I happen to be a black individual, I do strongly find the importance in protecting my skin from the harmful UVA/UVB rays. After reading the ingredients listed in the Cerave sunscreen, I figured that this would be suitable for my skin type and effective at protecting my skin from sun damage and darkening of my dark spots and hyperpigmentation. This sunscreen happens to be killing two birds with one stone, protecting my skin, and secondly, the ingredients niacinamide, ceramide, and hyaluronic acid seem to prevent fewer breakouts. I chose this sunscreen because of the amazing ingredients listed and secondly as it happens to be free of irritants and cancer-causing ingredients such as Octisalate, Octocrylene, Avobenzone, and Oxybenzone. I'm not someone who is picky but the only thing I ask when it pertains to sunscreen is that it doesn't leave a cast, but the cast is just a small price to pay than having to endure skin cancer. Ignore the other comments, it shows that those people aren't knowledgeable and don't appreciate just how safe and effective this product is. Cerave I love this product it is a definite must, If you do find this cast intense just apply a powder foundation and you'll be good to go.
Most Helpful Critical Review Pros and cons
I wish I could like this. I love CeraVe in general and have many products of theirs that I love. I use their Ultra-Light Face Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 for my face daily without any issues. This, however, is not for me. Maybe it will work for you. I hope it does. It isn't for me, though.
This does NOT rub into the skin well. The lotion filled in every single line on the back of my hands, and every single little pore on my arms, and it would not massage into the skin. I'm glad I gave it a test run before using it to actually go into the sun for a full day. I was hoping this would be a replacement for another brand's SPF for the body, but I guess not. I suspect that mineral SPF and I do not get along, because I've had this issue with another mineral sunscreen that was meant for the face and it just sat on the skin, wouldn't blend, and settled into every line and pore. I'm sad that it's not working out, because I love so much else about it; it's fragrance free, and has SPF 50, and all the ingredients are great for the skin. Sadly, it won't blend or massage into the skin, which means it won't be effective for me if I can't get it to rub in.
So, if you are a person who has good luck with mineral suncreens then you will probably get along well with this product! If you're like me, then stay away from this.

If you want to look like flash back Mary then you'll love this but it had a horrible white cast.
Perfect For Lifeguards
Lexx from Wildwood, NJ
I have used this product for the last 2-3 summers for my lifeguarding job. Yes, it leaves a white cast, but it stays on the whole day. Since I started using this I haven't got any sunburn on my face, so I think it's worth the white cast. The tinted version is way too dark for my fair skin tone. However, if I go to the beach or waterpark for a fun day I mix this with the tinted version to get rid of the white cast. Beware, I've read you're not supposed to mix them, but I haven't had any problems when I did.

I love Cerave, but this is the worse sunscreen I've ever used. It's a white, thick, heavy paste. I threw it out the first time I bought it but later this year I got a tattoo on my forearm and bought it again to protect my tattoo and to give it another chance, thinking maybe I wouldn't mind it being so thick on my arm and that maybe the white wouldn't be as visible when used not-on-the-face. I was wrong, it looked super white and it never really dried down. It's a super fail for me.
I like it!

It's not bad, a little thick so you gotta mix it with another moisturizer but it does the job!
do not buy

This was a horrible sunscreen in all categories. as a side note I am of fair skin and this products left such a white cast that it looked kind of purple hue. It creased in smile line and whatnot. I wore it to just lounge put in the pool and it started slipping off my face.
wish I read these reviews first

same as everyone says, leaves a VERY white cast, and im already very white, so that's saying something.

I've read the reviews and there's more negative comments than positive ones. I still decided to give it a try.
It has worked for me. I am usually under the sun for two hours or so and I have acne prone skin. Despite I'm not under the sun for too long, my forehead seems to get very sunburnt and tan easily. I apply it in the morning after I have washed my face. I mix this sunscreen with CeraVe's moisturizer. I put a very small amount since it does leave your face white if you apply a large amount.
It has not clogged my pores and it has helped on not getting my forehead sunburnt/tan.
Perfect for Florida Sun!
Nic from Clearwater FL
Of course it leaves a white cast, but it stays put. I live in Florida and am outside a lot- beach, boating, yard work swim meets. This is one of the rare sunscreens that doesn't sting my eyes when i sweat. I apply before being outside and reapply mostly nose & chin every hour. My face is noticeably lighter than the rest of me. It clearly works great! Suggest another that doesn't sting my eyes. I've tried everything, even brands specific for sensitive skin
Severe white cast that will ruin your clothes
Mar from Sacramento, CA
The initial white cast was awful. After spreading it around and rubbing it in, it was still awful. It did not diminish one bit. Not even as the day went on. Consequently, it also left white marks on my clothing and anything I touched
Ana from San Jose
I had high hopes for Cerave but this sunscreen leaves a white cast that feels like it doesn't even penetrate into my skin. I rubbed it in for a solid 5 minutes & it still doesn't blend in & left me looking like casper the ghost.
Dani from Texas
I can tell that the sunscreen is probably good at blocking sun but it leaves a really obvious white caste and and my foundation does not apply well over it.
Good, but white cast
Grace from California
Love this product, it actually does its job with no bad chemicals BUT when I tell you this sunscreen stuck onto me even after I showered and scrubbed myself twice I'm not lying. This is water, sweat, and soap resistant. You only have to apply once and you're set for the day, it's very hard to come off.
I love this sunscreen!

I'm a horse person and I'm the sun way too much. This is the only sunscreen that doesn't melt away. Yeah it thick but it works and I need a product that protects my skin
Not meant for color skin :(
juliana from Palm desert
Someone had recommended me this sunscreen but sadly it left a terrible white cast. I tried it for a week & thought maybe I put to much product so I tried less and it still didn't settle into the skin.
I love it

Yes there is a white cast but just rub it for an extra min. Overall a very nice sunscreen with a high SPF.
Thick but a good sunscreen
nmwelch from Indiana
This sunscreen is thick and leaves a white cast upon first application but if you let it sit for a couple of minutes and then rub in again it goes away. Overall though this is the best face sunscreen I've used.
Not for skin of color (BUT…)

If you have any pigment in your skin, stay away. White cast alert. BUT…if I use it under makeup, I find that it sort of acts like a primer! I just have to be sure to BLEND my makeup out to cover all of the ghostly parts with the sunscreen.
DO NOT BUY
lina from dearborn, MI
Has a horrible white cast that would not go away throughout the day. It stuck to the dry patched on my skin and the white made it look so much more magnified and visible.
Too thick with white cast
Tina from Texas
I wanted to delve into mineral sunscreens and this was not the way to go. It's very thick and hard to blend into the skin and leaves an absolutely terrible white cast. Even if I used a small amount, it never really dried and it would slip on my face throughout the day
linz9 from CT
I honestly don't know why I was so stubborn to try this when all of the reviews were saying it is so horrible. Well....it really is that horrible! Very strong chemical smell, and a very sticky, heavy consistency. I tried some on my hand and it was an immediate no, didn't even put any on my face. There is no way I would ever want to put this on my face, when I hated it on my hand! Also I'm pretty pale, and it made me glow like Casper. Don't be like me and try this, save the trip you will take to return it!
Karina from Alameda Ca.
Hard to blend and is very thick.
Don't just Don't.

I have a medium skintone and have a more oily skin type, so you can get a good idea. This was so bad, it have a purple/white cast it was also a bit sticky and slightly burning. Another big thing is it felt like it felt like it was clogging my pores and I waited about 10 minutes to see if the cast would go away but it did not so overall I would rate this a honestly 0/10.
It's that bad
Brittany from CHANDLER, AZ
Used this twice. First time, I had just washed me face and moisturized with minimal time between attempting to put on my sunscreen. Thought maybe that the skin needed to be fully dry before applying. Face appeared in a complete white cast and would not blend even with a makeup brush. Removed and tried again the next day on a full dry face. Same results, not worth it.
feels VERY heavy on the face

this was a waste of money. it leaves my face looking super white and it leaves streaks. I also got the one for the body and it does the same thing. I dont even use them.
