- What you should know about retinol:
- Retinol is an extremely effective and powerful anti-aging ingredient. You may experience mild redness, a warm, tingling sensation, or flaking (skin exfoliation). These conditions are normal, temporary indications that the formula is working.
- If you experience increased discomfort when using this product, revert to once every other night until skin adjusts. This adjustment can take up to 4 weeks.
- First time users and those with drier skin types may want to use this product every other night for more than 2 weeks to give skin additional time to adjust.
- For added comfort, use a mild cleanser and layer an additional moisturizer over this product.
- Limit sun exposure in general. Be sure to apply a sunscreen of SPF15 or higher during the day while using this product, and one week after stopping use of it. Note that extreme weather conditions such as wind or cold may be more irritating, so take the proper precautions to protect your face.

Apply pea size amount (0.25g) of retinol at night. Avoid eye area. Tip: For first two weeks, use every other night, then nightly. Use sunscreen and limit sun exposure while using and the week after. You recommend using clinique smart night moisturizer after using this product, however that is no longer available on your website. Will you be bringing this back? I was told to use this in place of the moisturizer at night. This is frustrating.

We like Clinique Smart Clinical Repair Wrinkle Correcting Cream (or Rich Cream for those that need deep hydration). This moisturizer may be used in place of the retired Clinique Smart Night Custom-Repair Moisturizer. When using the serum, for the first two weeks, only use it every other night, then nightly. I used this product as directed and had to discontinue it before I even made it out of the two week period where you only use it every other day. I have rosacea prone skin and bought this product to get acclimated to using retinol for the first time since it has .03%. Their other retinol has .1%, so I thought this one would be more gentle. I was wrong! I used it once a week for a while and then every few days, I used it on top of a layer of moisturizer followed by more moisturizer… despite my careful application I was still getting some redness and peeling months later. It did get gradually better for me though as I adjusted, but I never quite knew what my skin would look like the following day. I tried out their other (stronger) retinol because I had already bought it and to my surprise my skin has tolerated it much better than this one. It is a lighter formula. This one is thicker. I like that it has niacinimide though, the other one doesn't.

I have used this in the past as an all over treatment but, because I'm not as diligent as I should be I discontinued using it for that purpose. However, it is fantastic as a spot treatment for acne or pimples. If I see that I'm getting a flare up, I put a tiny amount over the area before I goto bed and the next morning it's gone! I much prefer this to the acne gel because it's an instantaneous fix. Clinique really should include this in the description because a lot of people may start using it for that reason alone. My opinion, buy it and keep it on hand because you never know when you may need it.
