Most Helpful Positive Review Changed My Mind
I had written a review previously on this product that wasn't very flattering. It was based on a sample I received at my local Clinique counter. However, I think the consultant accidentally put a different (stronger) clarifying lotion in the container (or, perhaps it was contaminated in some way since it came from the counter's sample bottle), because I recently purchased a brand new bottle from the store (thinking I'd give it another try), and so far I have had no problems with it whatsoever. It seems very gentle and mild with no noticeable smell. I have very sensitive rosacea-prone skin, and I have experienced NO redness, itching, dryness or irritation. In fact, my skin feels soft, hydrated, and it actually has a glow to it. All I've been using is the extra mild cleanser, the 1.0 exfoliator, and the Dramatically Different cream in the jar twice a day. I'm so glad I gave this product another chance!. If Clinique does decide to bring back the old version of this product due to customer demand, I hope they will continue making this version as well for those of us who now don't want to be without it.
Most Helpful Critical Review I realize writing this review is likely pointless - the old
I realize writing this review is likely pointless - the old version of the mild clarifying lotion is gone, and never coming back. But just in case Clinique reads this review, I want them to know that the previous mild lotion was the only product I ever found that completely cleared up my acne and gave me great skin. For seven years, it was the magic bullet in my skin routine. Instead of curing my acne, this new lotion makes me break out. To say I'm disappointed is an extreme understatement.

It was okay - I think it may be making me break out a little, but I'm not entirely sure. It does seem to help remove dead skin from drier areas. It definitely doesn't sting, and it doesn't cause any immediate bad reactions, which I was worried about because of how sensitive my skin usually is, so that was good. Just not sure that it's really doing anything aside from giving me another step in my routine.
Great for Sensitive Skin

I have combination skin and began the 3 step system years ago using the number 3 Clarifying lotion. After a couple of weeks I found it to be too harsh for my skin. I visited my local Clinique counter and shared my concerns and I was advised to try the 1.0 Clarifying lotion. What a difference! I love this clarifying lotion because it's gentle but effective. It leaves my skin clean and glowing without any harshness. Great product. I highly recommend for sensitive skin.
All I can say is WOW!

So I've tried ALL of Clinique's Clarifying Lotions and finally gave up because EVERY one of them burned my face. I have super sensitive skin. I did an online chat consultation and the represenitve's name was Lexie. I originally did a chat to make sure I was using all of my products in the right order as I use more than 3 (I use 8) not all twice a day. Anyway, she asked me if I use a calrifying lotion and I told her the problem I had when I tried all of the different formulas. She mentioned this one. She said it doesn't have alcohol in it and it would be best for me. I went to Ulta and got it that day. All I can say is WOW what a nice surprise! It doesn't burn my face or dry it out! It is very gentle. I'm so glad I took her advice and got it. Now my skin care routine is the regular 3 step plus my other treatments. This is now a staple for me. I couldn't be more happier!
It was okay

I didn't mind this product but I have never used a toner before and I it made my skin red after using it
Best exfoliator for sensitive dry skin

This product feels so good on the skin.
Perfect for Sensitive Skin

I love this! It's great for keeping skin clear, but isn't drying. Love that it doesn't have alcohol in it. Works much better for my dry/combination winter skin than the formulation with alcohol, like the 2 or 3. It layers really nicely under the Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion for hydration, and I also like the exfoliation it provides too!

Very gentle to my sensitive skin.

Excellent product for sensitive skin!
Works really well!

I'm one of the few people who didn't love -- and could not tolerate -- the old Mild Clarifying Lotion and I'm glad to have this alcohol-free option. It works very well for my dry-combination skin! I've noticed, though, that it is not compatible with certain moisturizers and sunscreens. I suspect it may leave a slight film behind that causes some products to pill.
Favorite Clarifying Lotion

My skin doesn't react to this product except in a good way. The other clarifying lotions irritate my skin. This is alcohol free yet has Salicylic Acid to help with my oily sensitive skin. No breakouts or redness just calm happy skin. Highly recommend to everyone who experiences issues with sensitive skin!

As a teenager I was always sold the wrong toner- either a 3 or 4- just because of some hormonal acne and shiny T-zone. I would be more irritated and always had acne come back. The biggest mistake they make at clinique is sell you the set- just because you are combination does mean you can use the Dramatically Different yellow moisturizer for example and just becasue you have some shine does not mean you should got for a 3 or 4. Now at 40 I am a clear jelly lotion user and every other day I use the "Smart" day (and I love the "smart" night- it is instantly healing overnight to help remove acne scars beleive it or not). I have used some Clarifying 2 samples in my regiment-
By the way I use the Mild Cleanser and I used to be a toner 3 and 4 customer. Go Figure!!
Now that I know my acne is hormonal and I have changed to be more combination dry, I love this toner after Mild cleanser (and with the jelly and occasional smart day or energy city block for summer.) I created my own regimen which works for me. And this 1.0 has no alcohol! That was the main reason I bought it in the first place as I could not understand how 2 still burns me at combination skin! The dramatically different yellow moisturizers- even the gel- leave me clogged and greasy- go figure I am a 1.0 user who cannot use the yellow moisturizes. I think they need to stop selling the grouped regimens and look at what works for you!!

I never used the old version so I'm unable to compare, but I've used this in combo with the other clarifying lotion numbers and find that it helps my skin not dry out especially in the colder months. I'd recommend trying.
Best Clarfying Lotion
Stacey from Florida
I've tried all of Clinique's clarfying lotions and this one is by far the best if you sensitive skin. The other ones made me burn and made certain areas of my face very red and irritated. This one keeps my skin fresh feeling and calm. This lotion has salicylic acid in it to help with controlling my oily areas too.
Lena from Coorad
This has become my go-to. If feels lovely — cool, soothing, slightly moisturizing. It has a small amount of BHA which really does help keep my pores clear, and I really do notice the difference if I don't use it for a while. In the evening I follow it up with Moisture Surge and/or Moisture Surge Intense depending on how my skin is feeling that day, but, in the a.m., I find that it's enough just with my spf. It does leave a shine to my skin, but my skin is still dry to the touch. I think it's rather pretty that way. I had tried the previous formulation years ago and never really liked it, but I love this one!
This stuff is AMAZING!!

I suffer from dry, sensitive skin and have rosacea. It is so hard for me to try new products because of the fear of a reaction. I was already using the Redness Solutions line (the only products I have found I can use without irritation) but my skin was still so dry. I decided to try this out fully expecting to have a reaction. Not only did I not have a negative reaction to it, but I noticed an improvement in my skin after just a few uses. My skin is no longer dry looking and the texture has improved dramatically!!

No toner I've tried has ever has reduced the redness, or dryness, of my skin the way this did! I'm hooked.
Finally NO STINGING
MarkyMark from Rhode Island
I have very dry, very sensitive fair skin and this is great product for my skin. There is no burning (I used to use the same Clinique Product but the 2.0 and it burned my skin whenever I used it). It does have a bit of a soapy texture IF you use too much of it. So a little goes a long way. Overall it's a gentle, effective cleanser and will be using this one from now on.
I love this ALCOHOL FREE toner
Ash from Omaha, NE
Alcohol dries out the skin and is not good for acne. This toner is perfect, cleanses the extra dirt and oil off my face before I apply my moisturizer. I've been using this toner for two years now.
Dry, sensitive skin 1.0

Love how cooling and soothing it feels on my sensitive redness prone skin. I should've started using Clinique years ago but so glad to have it now.
