Most Helpful Positive Review Best Mineral sunscreen for acne-prone skin Although I happen to be a black individual, I do strongly find the importance in protecting my skin from the harmful UVA/UVB rays. After reading the ingredients listed in the Cerave sunscreen, I figured that this would be suitable for my skin type and effective at protecting my skin from sun damage and darkening of my dark spots and hyperpigmentation. This sunscreen happens to be killing two birds with one stone, protecting my skin, and secondly, the ingredients niacinamide, ceramide, and hyaluronic acid seem to prevent fewer breakouts. I chose this sunscreen because of the amazing ingredients listed and secondly as it happens to be free of irritants and cancer-causing ingredients such as Octisalate, Octocrylene, Avobenzone, and Oxybenzone. I'm not someone who is picky but the only thing I ask when it pertains to sunscreen is that it doesn't leave a cast, but the cast is just a small price to pay than having to endure skin cancer. Ignore the other comments, it shows that those people aren't knowledgeable and don't appreciate just how safe and effective this product is. Cerave I love this product it is a definite must, If you do find this cast intense just apply a powder foundation and you'll be good to go.
Most Helpful Critical Review Pros and cons I wish I could like this. I love CeraVe in general and have many products of theirs that I love. I use their Ultra-Light Face Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 for my face daily without any issues. This, however, is not for me. Maybe it will work for you. I hope it does. It isn't for me, though.
This does NOT rub into the skin well. The lotion filled in every single line on the back of my hands, and every single little pore on my arms, and it would not massage into the skin. I'm glad I gave it a test run before using it to actually go into the sun for a full day. I was hoping this would be a replacement for another brand's SPF for the body, but I guess not. I suspect that mineral SPF and I do not get along, because I've had this issue with another mineral sunscreen that was meant for the face and it just sat on the skin, wouldn't blend, and settled into every line and pore. I'm sad that it's not working out, because I love so much else about it; it's fragrance free, and has SPF 50, and all the ingredients are great for the skin. Sadly, it won't blend or massage into the skin, which means it won't be effective for me if I can't get it to rub in.
So, if you are a person who has good luck with mineral suncreens then you will probably get along well with this product! If you're like me, then stay away from this.

It leaves a heavy white cast and I would not recommend for POC. There are better sunscreen lotions out there
Please read this review. This stuff is getting a bad rep 5

Let me start out by saying I've tried a ton of SPF and this one is amazing. First if anyone is complaining about the white cast they haven't done research on sunscreens. Mineral sunscreens will ALWAYS leave a white cast!!!!! Chemical will not. They do have a tinted version of this but it may not match your skin. Second for those complaining it's hard to blend you aren't doing your skincare correctly!!!! You are always to put sunscreen last after skincare whether it's 10 products or 1!!! Moisturize first always (should always be done regardless) and then after it's absorbed put sunscreen last. I've been using neutrogena dry touch sunscreen for years and that one is thicker and the white cast is 100x more noticeable!! This one barely shows up!! If you are wearing makeup over this sunscreen it's amazing. You don't see your skin whiter after foundation and it doesn't pill. The ingredients are also so good for your skin! Please do your research. This product is getting bad ratings because some aren't getting educated first. Anything I put on my face as far as skincare I research! You only get one face!
Wish I would have read the reviews - SUPER WHITE! 2
Ashley from Austin
This makes my skin SO unnaturally white looking that I HAVE to wear foundation over it. And, even then, the otherwise tan foundation looks too light. If you're looking for a sunscreen you can wear with no make-up or light concealer this probably isn't it. Too bad because the texture is creamy and the SPF level high. I've hardly used it since purchasing 3 months ago though because I don't like wearing heavy makeup. Should have returned it earlier.
Hate it 1
Nancy from New York
This sunscreen leaves probably the thickest white layer of sunscreen that I've tried. It's not oily, it "sets" pretty fast and once you try to kinda blend it in more with your hands the product just balls up. You might like it if you're fair. Did not look good under makeup.
The WHITE CAST IS THE POINT 5
Alex and from Salt lake City
This is the best sunscreen that physically blocks the sun from your skin with zinc oxide. That is literally the point. If you want a clear, less effective sunscreen this isn't for you. But if you're serious about protecting your skin from damage, this is your product. Yes it will be white, that is the ingredient protecting your skin. Don't leave bad reviews on something you clearly haven't researched.
White cast alert! 3

The white cast on this is WILD!
I am very pale & usually use the lightest shade of foundation offered, and if I'm wearing foundation you can't tell the sunscreen - but I hate that I HAVE to wear foundation when I wear this sunscreen.
Love CeraVe, but this is not it... 1

The white cast with this is DISRESPECTFUL. And I am super pale. Unless you are the color of freshly fallen snow this will make you look like you just saw a ghost. It is super thick and settles into every line, crease, and pore on your skin and looks awful under makeup. It emphasizes skin texture horribly. To make matters worse it feels very sticky and uncomfortable on the skin and you can definitely tell you have it on throughout the day. I would skip this one.
One of my best sunscreens 4
Kat from Huntington beach
This sunscreen is spf 50, and a mineral sunscreen. It looks invisible with my skin tone (tan) but would be noticeable with pale skin.
Leaves a cast but it goes away 5
Ellie from Fresno, CA
I expected for it to leave a cast but honestly it's very faint AS LONG AS you apply it correctly. I do the 15 dot method to ensure even spread of the sunscreen. The cast isn't bad, the cast means that it will be working. At least it's not a fluke like that one trending sunscreen that ended up being spf 19
White cast, but.... 3
Ana R from New York
I am a darker skinned woman. This leaves a horrible white cast BUT it is undetectable under foundation.
Whitest Whitecast Ever 3
Hunter from Ohio
I was so looking forward to enjoying this product I tried warming it in my hands for nearly two minutes before applying it to my face, and it STILL would not absorb into my skin and left the most horrible whitecast I have ever seen.
Great 5

Idk why so much hate. I was scared to buy because of the reviews but actually turns out it is so good and I love it. It is mineral so of course it's going to have a small cast but I find that on my skin the cast goes away fast. I must be pale lol If it doesn't work for you just go for tinted version or there are other spfs. Don't hate on the product.
I would buy this again and again. 5

Bummer that this is getting so many bad reviews. I personally really like it although it is a bit thick. But I just put a lot of moisturizer on my skin, let it soak in a bit and then apply this. The white cast does not bother me as it is a small price to pay for not getting cancer from all these chemicals that other sunscreens use. And on the days the white casts bothers me to much I just add some darker foundation over it. But I do believe that Cerave should reformulate this if possibly into a slightly thinner lotion so that we do not end up all looking like a Halloween geisha.
Major Disappointment 1
Meredith from Tennessee
I typically love cerave products, but one use and I will be returning this sunscreen without a doubt. The product is super thick and left an awful white cast on my already fair skin. The consistency so thick that the product distributed very uneven. I had to do heavy duty blending with a damp sponge to even it out enough to layer makeup over.
NO thank you 1
Deb from CA
Very difficult to blend and leaves a horrible white cast. I also feel like it doesn't get absorbed very well because within an hour I have white lines all over my face from the product settling into my fine lines :(
One of my favorites 5
Reina from Seattle
Not as hydrating as Elta MD 40 medical grade skin care, but I can say I do use this post procedural and it does not burn or irritate my exposed skin. This is not a cosmetic nor is it intended to be used under cosmetics. It is a tinted sunscreen: in other words you should be confident enough to rock this on your bare skin and call it a day. As far as the "white cast" I am a South American, medium golden brown woman with an olive undertone, this product by itself; on my skin, makes my skin look like my skin... but better.
Not a fan 2
Ash_Bick from Texas
I do not find this to be very hydrating and absolutely do not like the way it sits on my skin. I also do not like how it gets into my hairline and eyebrows and makes them look funny. I do, however, find that when I warm it up in my hands it reduces much of the white cast. I will not be repurchasing and will stick to Sun Bum.
Thick and white cast 2

I love the cereve tinted sunscreen but this was too think to wear under makeup and the white film left on your face was not good
If you want clown white face paint this is for you 1
Steffio from United States
First of all, this is sooooooooooo difficult to blend into your skin. Which is awful because good skin care means being gentle with your skin.
Second, it gets all over your clothes, and if you want to take it off during the day, you will need dish soap or practically detergent to clean it off.
Third, it's DEHYDRATING, and I have oily skin!!!
Awful sunscreen. :(
Absolutely not 1
ArellanoE from Austin texas
I never post reviews and this is my first one. Do not buy. First this sunscreen is SO very hard to apply and spread across the face. And it's leaves your face looking white. It feels super super dry. I love Cerave products but this is not it. I'll stick with the sun bum face sunscreen
Horrendous 1

You will not be able to wear this out, unless it's Halloween! It is absolutely not esthetically pleasing or at least acceptable. It's like putting concrete on your face.
If you want a severe white cast, this is the product for you 1
Ariana from Santa Bárbara
Goes on very white and pasty and does dry to blend in.
At First I HATED it but now I'm a believer 5
Jalesha from Copperas cove Texas
Now I have to agree with every one when it comes to the awful white cast 😩BUT if you mix it with a moisturizer a little goes a long way..I'm an African American woman and I very picky with ANYTHING I put on my face but CERAVE has changed and is changing my skin for the better! PS.. this sunscreen is PERFECT for acne prone skin, dark spots as well as hyperpigmentation
Awful cast 2
Panda08 from Dallas, TX
This is a good sunscreen for body, but not for face. I love that this is an unscented mineral sunscreen with a higher SPF, but it's pretty thick and the cast on this is awful, even for a VERY fair skinned person.
No for me 1
Emily from Houston
This sunscreen didn't have any redeeming qualities for me. 1st- it does have a pretty intense white cast, but that is to be expected from any mineral sunscreen so i wasn't surprised. I could of dealt with that if the formula was otherwise good- but it's not. 2nd- it's extremely heavy/sticky. Really hard to work in to the skin and once on you can feel it on your skin all day like a mask. This is not a throw it on and go kind of sunscreen. Third- i normally never have problems with this brand but this made my skin red/itchy and made my eyes burn. If your going to try it defiantly work into skin in small amounts and be prepared to do so heavy duty cleansing to get it all off.
