First off, let me give you some background on my skin. I'm 33 and have been dealing with acne for TWENTY YEARS. It started in my early teens, got progressively worse through middle and high school, cleared up a bit in college (thanks, birth control!), but then stayed at a pretty solid 'meh' level thereafter. I finally went to a dermatologist a few years ago and have been using two prescriptions, one oral and one topical, since then. The prescriptions have really helped to clear my big, painful, cystic, deep, hormonal acne, but I have still been dealing with lots of clogged pores / blackheads, medium-sized breakouts here and there, and even the occasional mega-zit. Added to all of this is the fact that I'm starting to see signs of aging in my skin, and all those years of acne have left me with enlarged pores, uneven color / texture, and areas of deep hyperpigmentation.
About a month ago I received my regular shipment of Ritual vitamins (yes, I am a millennial) and found a coupon code for OSEA inside. I had never heard of them before but had been wanting to find a nicer face wash. I had been using CeraVe Facial Cleanser on my dermatologist's instructions, but even after trying the 'Hydrating' version I always came away feeling like my skin was both too dry and also not deeply cleansed. When I saw the OSEA coupon, I figured I'd take the skin quiz and give their products a try. I ordered the OC-1 and White Algae mask and the box arrived at a perfect time: I had just returned from a backpacking trip in a very dry, dusty, windy area. My skin was filthy, lightly sunburned, and parched with patchy areas of flaky dryness. That night I used the OC-1 for the first time and noticed right away that it was not irritating my skin AT ALL. Not my eye area, not the sunburn, not the raw and flaky spots. That in and of itself blew me away. The fact that the cleanser also smells like lime lollipops was an unexpected perk. After cleansing I could definitely tell that my skin was really, truly, actually clean. Not stripped, not any drier than it had been before ... just CLEAN. I decided to try the White Algae mask, too, and left it on overnight. When I woke up the next morning I could hardly believe my eyes: my skin looked as if it had been healing from the hiking damage for a week, not one night. The dry patches were already more balanced, the sunburn hadn't even had a chance to get dry and flaky, and the little crops of almost-zits that looked like they were ready to pop up were soothed and quieted.
It's been about a week and a half since I got back from that trip and I've been using the cleanser twice a day, and the mask as an overnight treatment every other day. Every morning when I wake up my mind is blown by how soft, balanced, and glowing my skin looks and feels. I really put the products to the test a few nights ago when I went on an anxiety-fueled squeeze and pick session. It's a horrible compulsion that I've tried hard to break, but when life is as weird as it is right now I can't help myself! And I'm truly the worst about it: I could spend hours in the mirror squeezing gunk out of my skin if it weren't for my husband (who knows what I'm up to) knocking insistently on the bathroom door after about 45 minutes. So anyway, I really did a number on my face the other night and it looked terrible ... red, blotchy, just really, really angry (anyone who picks will know what I'm talking about). Per usual I was completely ashamed afterwards and did the hastiest version of my nighttime routine just so I could go to bed and not think about it anymore. I literally used just the cleanser and the mask, and none of my other usual products. I fully expected to wake up the next morning with a horrible face of redness and new zits. It's what happens every time I pick, after all. The next day I wiped the mask off my face to see that all the areas I had been squeezing and picking at were ... mostly fine. Of course there was SOME irritation, but nothing at all like what I had every right to expect after the torment I put my skin through the night before. Two days after the fact, and it's almost like I never picked at all. That heap of horrible, scabby, disgusting zits I should have gotten? They never showed up.
Long story short; I am completely in love with both the OC-1 and White Algae mask. Even though these products are very much outside of my usual price range, I know that I'll be reordering both of them (and hopefully trying some new OSEA products, too) because I cannot get over the difference they have made in my skin in less than TWO WEEKS. I'm so excited to see what my face looks like once I've used a full round of these products. Thank you, OSEA! And please never change the OC-1 scent! ;)
Most Helpful Critical Review Nothing wrong with it
Okay lemme lay it down for ya'll. So I bought this on a building impulse to just treat myself. I came across this particular product through youtube, and somehow decided that it was perfect. At first the price was appalling; I am not one to spend a whopping $44 on some face stuff, but after some self consoling i decided that I should not be afraid to buy myself something expensive. Also I knew I would be haunted forever by my curiosity so I might as well rip off the bandaid. After I received the product I noticed a stinging sensation, but because of the astounding reviews I decided that I must be crazy. I finally came to terms with this fact after using the product for several months. The stinging sensation persists every time I use the cleanser, even on hydrated skin. Overall the concept of this stuff isn't bad. It just has a reaction to my particular skin. I was also expecting more of a soft milk cleanser but I can assure you that this is definitely a watery GEL cleanser. It doesn't really do much for my skin except irritate it. It doesn't clean deep into my pores. I think the sole purpose is just to wash dirt and makeup off the surface. As for the company itself it isn't bad. (I wish things were more affordable). Even someone like me who wasn't a huge fan of the product can appreciate them. Shout out to Brooke Babcock for some crazy fast customer service and friendly greetings.
Reviewed by 501 customers Burns my skins a little

These ingredients look great so I'm not sure why this burns my skin a little when I use it. I don't have sensitive skin so I was surprised, don't love the smell either. Won't continue to use :(
My favorite cleanser ever!
Jennifer from Huntsville, Al
I have combination/oily skin. I'm 46 years old, and my pores on my nose have tended to have blackheads etc, not anymore!
Just not for me
Sarah from Ohio
First I have to say Osea makes really great products, this particular ocean cleanser product just didn't seem to work too well for me, I have hyper sensitive skin, I didn't have any breakouts, rashes or irritations of any sort, what I did find was that when I used the product as is meant to be used, it wasn't removing all of my make up from my face, after wiping the product off with a wet makeup remover towel I could see makeup left on my face (as if the product just didn't help to remove the me makeup) I did massage the product on my face for about 2-minutes, I had to use toner to remove all of the residual of make up, for me after cleansing my face should appear clean and once I use my toner it should never look like I'm trying to remove make up with my toner, I also foundThat the product was a little too drying for me, whatever reason this dried my face out more than usual and I already have dry skin, I ended up returning it and went back to the algae oil which has been the best oil I've found to date.
My go to cleanser for my rosacea
Dani from New Jersey
This is mine and my mothers go to cleanser. We both have sensitive skin and suffer from rosacea. I use this cleanser after a workout or a long day, note I don't wear makeup daily. My mothers wears a full face of makeup and uses this to remove her makeup every night. I find that one to two pumps is enough. I love that this cleanser has a pump that actually works and doesn't clog up. I've been using this cleanser since I started transitioning to a more "clean" lifestyle. I'm glad I can simply pop into a Ulta store and pick it up. I would originally order from detox market but now that Ulta has started selling clean beauty I will continue buying from them.
Again and again and again!

I have oily, sensitive skin, this stuff is fantastic! I love using it in the morning before putting on makeup it makes for a perfect canvas.
Pregnancy Safe but tingles!
DenverGirl from Denver, CO
I live in Colorado, and needed something non-drying for my already dry skin. This is just the ticket! It DOES have a TINGLE, which some people may not be a fan of. Know that going into it, or you won't like it. For me, I feel like it's working. I'm also pregnant on top of it, and nothing was touching my pregnancy-related, hormone-imbalanced breakouts. This has helped tremendously! I did spend a lot of time making sure everything in it was safe for baby, and found that it was.
I would buy this product again!

I'm a new user of this product. While it's a bit on the pricier side, it is a great product. Made of good stuff! My face feels clean and it glows!!
So far I like it
CpVermonter from USA
I received a sample size of this with another Osea product. I do not experience any sort of tingle or burn. It does not foam up, as one reviewer complained, but it doesn't need to, oddly so. The smell is pleasant and for someone who has simply worn makeup to bed for years and still have good youthful skin at 55, it's a delight to wash my face at night with - which is helping me get into a routine. I will purchase again.
About to buy my second bottle..
Cyn from NC
I thought the texture was a bit awkward at 1st because it's a cleanser that doesn't foam up but as I am near to the bottom of the bottle, I love the creamy texture to cleanse my skin. My skin feels very clean and refreshed after a wash but never feels tight or dried out. I don't usually finish bottles before moving onto the next thing to try & it's once in a blue moon for me to continue to buy the same thing but as my title goes.. I'm about to buy my second bottle after this review. Give this a try!

this makes me excited to wash my face. I'm a little obsessed.
Lovely face wash
Linds from Connecticut
I received a sample of this face wash with another Osea purchase and fell in love. I have generally dry, sensitive skin, and I felt this cleanser did a nice job without leaving my face feeling too dry or tight. It also has a light pleasant scent.
Creamy, Weird Smell, Stings
Princess Peach from Maryland
I received this as a sample. I liked the texture of the cleanser. The scent was a weird take on fresh. It did make my skin have a stinging sensation. I won't be purchasing this item.
Not for me
BossBrunette from Indiana
First off....There is absolutely ZERO foam to this and I hate how it worked with my PMD brush. Second....I do not have sensitive skin AT ALL. I do chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and all of that kind of stuff so not much irritates my skin...except this cleanser. I don't know how anyone with sensitive skin would be able to use this product if it irritates my skin. There are no words for how much I loathe this product. The only plus is that is smells decent.
A new staple for me

I first tried this product after receiving it in one of my Allure boxes and immediately I knew I'd be buying more; it leaves my face feeling so clean and the scent is A+; this cleanser doesn't disappoint!

I love the fresh smell and my face feels so clean and smooth after each use. My favorite Face Cleanser. Removes makeup easily. This product is a staple for me.
Pumps need work
lauren from portland
love this! great smell, cleans well. I thought I got broken pumps on this and their moisturizer but I kept trying because I didn't want to return these, took about 50 pumps to get any product out but both are working now. I have a super oily t zone with very dry cheeks, I'm less oily overall and my cheeks are less dry (though still a little dry tbh) so it's balanced my face a lot better than most cleansers/moisturizers - I prefer this to clinique which I've used for years. I wish they offered more of their products!
Jane from USA
My mom gave me a sample size of this that she got in her allure beauty box and I have been using it about a week and let me just tell you, I have NEVER in my entire life had a product work so quickly to clear my skin. I am currently pregnant and experiencing some of the WORST acne I've ever had. When my mom gave this to me I legitimately had no less than a dozen, painful, inflamed zits on my face with more popping up every day! After 4 days of use the new zits subsided and the ones already existing were steadily disappearing. Now at day 7 I have almost nothing on my skin but left over acne scars and those are also fading. I have tried SO MANY expensive and bargain cleansers and NEVER experienced results like this. I'm hooked. I will say, if you don't like the tingle on your face or have sensitive skin, this is probably not the right product for you, but I quite enjoy the tingle- I feel like it's telling me it's working. I really don't have oily skin, but the ance has always flared up around my cycle and with the pregnancy it was just like gang busters for acne on my poor face. This allowed me to finally look in the mirror without wanting to burst into tears. I'm so happy.

Unfortunately this didn't work out for me. It really stung my face and my skin felt uncomfortable for the rest of the day.
Amazing, fabulous cleanser - worth the splurge
Makeup Gal from Fairfax, VA
This is a fantastic cleanser that I use every morning (though it can be used any time of the day and removes makeup well). Although this cleanser is a bit on the pricey side, it makes my skin feeling refreshed, and soft and smooth without feeling too dried out. I love that I added this to my daily routine. It also looks like the improved the pump on this product (people complained before about the pump that used to come with this cleanser). I am happy that Ulta carries Osea products!
My everyday cleanser.
Kiara Talley from USA
I am always hesitant to use new products on my skin as my skin routine is usually minimal, but as I've moved to a new climate with harsh winds, dry desert air and sand/dust as more environmental challenges to my skin, I've needed a good system for my skin. TWO DAYS into using this cleanser and most of my redness/visible blackheads were gone. I love the gentle tingling on days that my skin feels a little drier, and it always feels nourished after cleansing rather than stripped of all oils. I pair this with the Hyaluronic Sea Serum and then the Atmosphere protection cream and it's the best combination for every day skin love.
Improves texture of skin
JJ of GR from Grand Rapids, MI
I received a sample of this cleanser and gave it a try. After the first use, the texture of my skin improved. I thought it was due to a combination of the products I was using, but after using the other products without the cleanser, I knew that it was the cleanser that was making the difference. Had to buy the full size! I am so glad that I did. I love how smooth my skin is since using this cleanser!!! Thank you OSEA for this fabulous product!
Meg from Philly
I received a small bottle as a sample and I do like it. I wouldn't pay this price but it leaves you with a nice refreshed feeling and smells strongly of lemon-lime (which I actually like).
I have never had worse acne in my life
Abby from California
I bought this last month and was so excited to try it and switch up my skincare routine! It had so many good reviews so I was expecting the best. Long story short, my acne is the worst it's ever been. My skin has never been acne prone, but after a week of using this face wash, I had SO much acne. I'm switching back to my old face wash asap
Marie from USA
This cleanser is one of my favorite to use on my face. I LOVE the slight minty fragrance and how smooth it goes on my face. It makes my face feel clean and smooth. I use it with my Foreo microderm device and it makes my face feel silky smooth!
Do NOT recommend if you have sensitive /dry skin!
Alexis V from USA
Used this cleanser for about a week and had a bad reaction to the ingredients. Started to burn a couple days after using it then got a sunburn due to the Lactic Acid in this product. I contact customer service online and the person tried to tell me this product did not cause a sunburn. Obviously they don't know skin care. I had goggled it earlier on and found this : " It can make your skin more sensitive to the sun. As the acid sloughs away skin cells, it leaves new cells more vulnerable to UV damage. When you start using lactic acid, you must be committed to protecting your skin from the sun." FYI , I always wear sunscreen on my face. The person went on to just recommend mixing it with a milk cleanser. OBVIOUSLY, if I had a reaction why the hell would I continue to use this stuff? That's fine, this product isn't for me but I am Very disappointed with Their customer service .
