Most Helpful Positive Review Absolute holy grail
This is the only moisturizer I plan to use for the rest of my life.
I purchased the Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA 100 mL in August of 2019, and as of today, August 5th 2020, I have officially finished that first tube. I used it basically twice a day every single day for a year after cleansing and any serums/other treatments. If my face is still soaking wet from The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toning Solution or applying way too much serums or other treatments, the Natural Moisturizing Factor has trouble soaking in and takes an extra minute or so to absorb, but that's user error rather than a product malfunction. Sometimes, when I didn't have any of my Cerave Moisturizing Cream (the only body lotion that I'm not allergic to), I would use the Natural Moisturizing Factors instead and it also worked well as a light body moisturizer.
This product did not make any dramatic changes to my skin besides keeping it healthy and hydrated every day, which I consider a plus. It's the most simple, straight-forward product ever. The only problem I can imagine anyone possibly having is wanting more hydration for dry skin, and Natural Moisturizing Factors mixes and/or layers well with argan oil and squalane oil that I've used it with. There are no active ingredients in it so I don't have to worry about it contradicting or reacting negatively with any serums or treatments I use. It absorbs in less than a minute and truly feels like my skin is naturally moisturized, I can't even tell that there was a lotion on my skin. It doesn't make my face look or feel greasy, even though I have extremely oily skin (if I'm not wearing makeup my t-zone will start to look oily around 5-8 hours after applying, but that's totally natural for my skin).
It wears perfectly under makeup and doesn't cause any pilling or textural problems under any types of primers, powder, cream, stick foundation, or liquid foundation I've used. I would buy this again and again, and give it 10 stars if I could.
Most Helpful Critical Review Not elegant to apply but good for the price
This is one of the weirdest moisturizers I have ever used. My first 2-3 uses/impressions I absolutely hated it. I am still undecided on it but I have used it about 6 times so far and I decided that I don't hate it- I just have figured out what I like about it and how to use it more effectively. First of all, I think this definitely applies better on slightly damp skin. This product is not the most elegant in terms of application- it has a streakiness and opacity to it when you first start rubbing it in- similar to a sunscreen. You have to continue rubbing and rubbing and eventually it diffuses into the skin.
What I love about this moisturizer is that once you get it worked into the skin and once it dries, it literally looks like you have NOTHING on your face. No shine, no dewiness, no glow- just a satin healthy looking skin look. I absolutely love that about it. I do agree with some of the other reviews that this has a somewhat waxy sit-on-top-of-your-skin type of feel to it. BUT, remember that this moisturizer is really meant to be a supplement for the lipids in our skin. You can apply this first and apply another one of your favorite moisturizers on top- or even mix them. I prefer to mix (I've mixed it 50/50 with CeraVe PM and it works really well) since it makes the application more elegant and reduces the white cast/streakyness.
I like using this moisturizer when my skin is compromised, when I've overdone it on Tretionin, or when my skin is in the recovery stages of a Tret application. My skin becomes sensitive and stings easy the few days following Tret. I like to apply more nourishing, lipid/cholesterol/fatty acid (linoleic) based moisturizers like this one when I'm trying to recover my skin. Think of this as a skin supplement. Is this the most elegant moisturizer out there? No. But... seriously, you HAVE to remember the price here. This is INSANELY inexpensive. You are getting a TON of good ingredients for a very low low price.

I used almost the entire bottle of this moisturizer. I wanted to love it, but it gave me lots of clogged pores on my forehead (the under-the-skin type that don't go away unless popped and are so annoying). I continued using it because I wasn't experiencing super terrible breakouts/cysts, but once I stopped using it, I definitely noticed that fewer 'clogs' formed. I dealt with the bumps for weeks after quitting this moisturizer. On the upside, it feels nice and smooth on the skin, but I will never purchase this again. There was some ingredient in this formula that irritated me.

I am beyond impressed with the quality of this moisturizer!!! I assumed that this would be a thin product due to the price, but I was very wrong! It's thick, and hasn't caused my face to turn oily yet! I bought this bc of super dry skin during the colder months. It's took like 4 days and I can already tell a difference in my skin! Also no smell to the product so it works really well for us sensitive skin folks!
A little goes a long way!

I only really need a dime sized amount (or less tbh) of product for it the cover my whole face. Which means that this moisturizer will last you a long time. The price makes it even better!

I have tried countless moisturizers in my day and I keep going back to this one. My skin is normal to oily (in summer) but can get dry in winter. This works for all seasons and does not make me greasy. It absorbs well and feels great on my skin. I use it with a variety of serums.
My staple moisturizer
Terri from Pittsburgh
I use it every day and have for about a year. I never once had any dry skin no matter what month. It's cheap, effective, and my skin has been amazing ever since. I used Ceraphil previously which felt oily and this is much better and thicker.
Great face moisturizer for the colder months
J. Yang from Wilmington, NC
This is a great face moisturizer for the colder months since it is thick. It leaves your face feeling hydrated and ready to tackle the cold weather. I would recommend this for people with dry or flaky skin that just needs some extra love and hydration to the face!
gigi from bc
maybe it's a good moisturizer for oily skin. i have dry/combo skin and this doesn't really help moisturize. it goes on like a sunscreen and just makes my skin feel weird.
Very nice I love it

I'm an Ordinary product girl through and through (except I do like the pacifica peel better, thanks local ulta girlies for the recommendation)
This moisturizer is SO interesting to me. It almost applies like sunscreen (ew).... but once it sets on the skin it's refreshing..... It's thick but light.....
I had the driest skin from travel that NOTHING could fix. For a week I tried Murad, Tatcha, Cetaphil, Kate Summerville, R&F Soothe.... I felt and looked like a snake and then LITERALLY 24 hours of this and I was good as new.... or even better. After 48 hours I noticed a positive change in cystic acne scarring and complexion.
I can't say enough good things. I'm obsessed with Clinique's moisture surge and this (although a totally different product) rivals with results.
I won't go anywhere without it now. Is there a travel size?!?!?!?!

I tried using this and buffet but I'm pretty sure the HA in both of these dry out my face. However, I hate to waste so I actually use this as hand cream and it's fantastic! Great size for your purse too!
I've used this exclusively for almost 3 yrs

I absolutely LOVE this moisturizer! I saw a few reviews saying it dried their skin out. IF that's happening to you, try using it on damp skin (fresh out the shower for example, or after washing your face & patting dry but leaving a bit of dampness). HA "can" draw water out of your inner skin layers. This is a higher molecular weight HA (vs sodium hylaronate for example)and that's what you want :) This moisturizer shouldn't really be doing that, but it wouldn't be impossible either. Also, if you're already using multiple products with HA, some skin- especially after long term use- cab begin reacting poorly to it. I actually had this happen to me about 4 months ago, & I trashed my HA serum (why use 2 products with the same active?) and I also have a cleanser with HA in it that I started using no more than twice a week (rotating with others). My skin went back to normal immediately. Anyhow, I have dry skin that's fairly sensitive, & I love that this doesn't contain fragrance or Silicones! It spreads nicely too, & I personally like to use about a dime size amount, spread over face & then I sort of push it into my skin, which helps it absorb quickly. I wait a minute & if i feel like I need a bit more in certain areas, I apply more. oh, I use it on my neck too.
Hear me out

Try it with the ha serum first and then the moisturizer after its a bit thick but they balance out eachother quite nicely leaving your skin non dull
Definitely recommend !

I love everything about this product down to the price! Very inexpensive, but don't let the low price fool you. This moisturizer keeps you moisturized throughout the entire day without feeling too heavy or oily. I will buy it again and again!!!
I think it's great!
Shelly from Maryland
I was having issues with my makeup looking patchy on my skin very badly. I mix a little of this in with my foundation and it works like a charm!!
Sucked all of the moisture out of my skin
SarahFW from Texas
I have combination skin that tends toward sensitivity/dehydration due to retinoid use. This moisturizer goes on a bit thick and greasy, but it does sink in reasonably quickly. However, my skin didn't feel hydrated once it dried down, and within two days of using, my skin was dried out and flaking off. Stopped using it and replaced it with a different moisturizer, and the flaking went away. Luckily this stuff was so cheap. It went in the trash.
It was amazing at first!
Kenz from New York
When I first got this, it worked amazing! It's been about three months and now it sits ontop of my skin and doesn't do anything. I cant even rub it in I have to pat it off. At first I thought I was using too much but it just won't do anything. I'm not sure if it's reacting to my new cleanser but I loved it so much when I first got it
Broke me out and clogged pores
Jess from New Jersey
Wanted to love this since it's an ordinary product, but this was sort of drying on my skin and clogged my pores. I'm really picky with my skincare and have sensitive skin, and unfortunately my skin did not like this.

I think it is great, first day I was impressed how my face felt different more moisture and felt great
Sunscreen w/o SPF
Danhello from Philadelphia
This moisturizer, like another review said, has the consistency of sunscreen but without any SPF. You have to really rub it into the skin to get rid of the white cast it creates. I would avoid this product or get a sample first if you have medium to deep skin tones and are worried about a white cast. I do like that my skin doesn't feel oily or tacky after putting it on. I wouldn't buy it again but I'm not upset I spent my money on it.
Just the basics
MrsBaker from Ohio
If you want the most basic + most moisturizing product, this is it. No weird scents or unnecessary added ingredients. It's just a good moisturizer. I have combo oily / dry skin that is acne prone and this does not break me out. I use very little though - don't over do it.
DO NOT BUY IF YOU HAVE OILY SKIN
Lilly from California
I'm so disappointed because I've seen people raving about this, so I bought it, but unfortunately it does not work well for people with oily skin/large pores. It feels very thick and suffocating. It doesn't really soak into my skin either, it kind of just sits on top of it. I usually like The Ordinary products but this was absolutely terrible. Made my skin extremely greasy & enlarged the appearance of my pores.
Kt from GA - Georgia
This is a great basic hunectant rich moisturizer! It is a cream consistency so it seems heavy when you apply it but it's actually not a heavy moisturizer - you just need to give it like 2 mins to absorb. I have Oily skin and I usually apply it last after cleansing and applying any treatments before my skin is totally dry and it absorbs into a really nice weightless finish. I originally was using it as a nighttime one since it seemed heavy right out of the tube but once I gained some patience and let it absorb before applying a light spf, I found it to be a pretty decent daytime moisturizer. I've been experimenting with some fancier moisturizers and this is still my staple. It's a really nice base to add boosters or other products to - it plays really nicely with my tanning drops actually.
ONLY MOISTURIZER THAT DOESN'T BREAK ME OUT
Nicole from 40502
Literally the ONLY moisturizer I can use that doesn't instantly break me out. I've been going without moisturizer almost my entire life, I'm 26 almost 27, my skin has literally forced me to not use moisturizer because for some forsaken reason any time I put lotion on my face (trust me I've tried so many) it make me break out so much, everything irritates my skin when it comes to lotion. This is my staple go to, I wouldn't have a soft face without this wonderful lotion and I hope it never ever changes, hope they keep selling it forever. Wish it came in a bigger bottle but the price is pretty good. Only wish it lasted longer. Definitely a 10/10 from me!! It's been a life saver!! Please try this if your on this fence because of acne, combination skin or easily inflamed skin.
Depends on your skin
Coppertop from Missouri
This formula is a thicker consistency. It can feel a little heavy when applied but it soaks in fast. This always seems to calm my skin when I'm having a bad breakout and give me the boost I need! It might not be the best for oily skin types.
Simply can't beat the results for the price
