Grown up version in the K line

Full disclosure, I received this sample size (2ml) for free in return for review. I did not receive a full bottle. I remember trying K EDP and hating it because the fig note comes off as BO and plasticy off my skin. Never gave the line a shot after that. Now come when I received the Parfum sample..., and I'm pleasantly surprised! The fig and sandalwood combo work fairly well, and the licorice (more like star anise) in the background, along with hints of caramel for that sticky sweetness, is blended very well. The opening is super good, and pretty strong. I wouldn't say it's a heavy fragrance, but I'd categorize it as a an airy fragrance with some heavy notes. Definitely do not want to overspray this one! It starts to mellow down after about 30 minutes, and that sandalwood and licorice take over. As it goes further into the dry down, it develops a more mature scent, as my wife describes it as "old man-ish, and not in a good way…" I kind of see what she's saying, it does have an old school feel in the dry down. I think I'm a little biased as I kinda like fougere fragrances, but more so the ones that have a modern twist. The opening alone almost made it bottle worthy for my collection of 70+ fragrances. Longevity: I've gotten a solid five hours, and I could smell the fragrance heavily on skin. Projection: I think the first three or four hours, you get a solid, scent bubble/trail. After that, it might take a little closer to the skin, but still noticeable. Versatility: I think it's an anytime, anywhere kinda fragrance. Can be dressed up or dressed down. It's extremely hard to base a full wearing of any fragrance in sample form, so take it with a grain of salt. This was not bad, I'd rank it above average. Solid 7 1/2 out of 10.
