The purple for brown was almost gone from my niece's hair, only a few faint streaks here and there. They followed the directions on the fader shampoo. After one use, in every place that previously had faint streaks of purple, there were now purple undertones. The shampoo barely changed the color. However, we super saturated their hair with red for brown and it looks fine. So maybe it's ok if you are re-coloring but this shampoo will require repeated use to return to natural. Overall I'm not sure it's different than any other clarifying shampoo.
