Q&A

Q
The sponge has a chemical smell upon first opening the tin. Should the sponge be washed before first use? If so, how?
Asked by AS
Official Answer By J.Cat Beauty Enterprise LLC - Brand Engage
Hi there! That scent is common from packaging and not harmful, but to make sure your sponge feels fresh, we recommend washing it before your first use. Just rinse it under lukewarm water with a gentle, fragrance-free soap (like baby shampoo or a gentle facial cleanser). Squeeze out excess water and let it air-dry completely before placing it back into the tin.Was this answer helpful to you
Q
How can you clean the sponge itself? What cleaning solution is recommended?

Great question! When pigment builds up on the sponge, you can refresh it by cleaning with mild soap and lukewarm water: Gently press the sponge under the water and work in the soap until residue is released. Rinse until the water runs clear. Squeeze out water gently (avoid twisting too hard). Let the sponge air-dry fully before putting it back in. For deeper brush-cleaning care, you can also use our Double Bubble Makeup Brush Cleanser—it’s a foaming, lavender-infused formula that’s gentle yet effective at removing makeup residue from brushes. Was this answer helpful to you

Always tempted to try one??? Get this one!!!!

For some reason I always put these type dry sponge cleaner in my carts and cut it when I need to cut down the price of my order (I gasped at 200 bucks so I start removing stuff I went ham with). I have done that with several high end price of this type thing and even ULTA version. But because I wa...

Don't buy it

It took off someeeee eyeshadow, when I say some I mean such a little amount and took legitimately four minutes to do so and there was still so much left on it. Not worth it at all. When I say the brush cleaner is legitimately just a black wiring sponge , that's exactly what it is. No product in this...

This product works very very well. It cleans my brushes for color swithes. It doesnt leave residue on my brushes and it is double sided. It is very easy to clean as well. The price is really good. Dont waist your money on expensive ones. Just get this one instead.

it does not replace actually cleaning your brushes, but it does remove excess pigment before dipping into a new shade with the same brush!

This does exactly what it's supposed to do and it does it pretty well. It's great for traveling because it comes with a lid. It doesn't need cleaned very often cuz the sponge is thick so there's a good depth available for powders to build up into. Mine doesn't cause my brushes to turn black like I saw one comment say. It's easy and quick to use. The only problem with it, and it's a really obvious-seeming oversight by J.Cat, is that the lid doesn't fit back onto the bottom of the canister. So you're left either storing the lid next to it (taking up twice the space on your vanity, countertop, etc.), storing it separately somewhere, getting rid of it (but then you can't travel with it), or putting it haphazardly on the bottom anyway and having it sit at a slant looking all janky. It's not a HUGE deal but it is annoying and an imperfection.

I have been doing my makeup for years using a towel in-between colors. This is genius.
