Most Helpful Positive Review Seems to work I really hesitated to buy this because of the price and I wasn't sure how it would work but Ulta has such a libral return policy I thought I would try it. I used this when my hair had a lot of gray roots and I should have been using a box color like I usually do so this was a pretty tough test of the product. I washed my hair first and then applied the "stain". I used a lot it seemed and concentrated on my most gray areas. I left it in 2 hours because I wanted maximum color. My hands were stained with the warm brown color and did not come clean with soap and water. I used sink cleaner with bleach and it took the stain right off. I rinsed the product out after 2 hours (cleaned my house while it was processing), applied my normal stying products and blow dried my hair. My hair is very thick and coarse and does not usually hold color well. My hair came out feeling very silky and soft. I could tell a difference in color too. My hair seemed more of a rich tone. I would say this product is like a deep conditioner with a color stain. It did not totally cover my gray but blended it pretty well. Not sure how long it will last as I just used this product.
Most Helpful Critical Review Does not work! Discovered this at Ulta by accident. I was excited about this product. I'm getting tired of root touch ups every 2 weeks. Well it did nothing. I left it on for 40 mins. As I was waiting, it looked like my roots were turning golden brown. I needed darker, but I would have been fine with it. Washed it out and was really disappointed. Did NOTHING!!! Returning!!!

I had my hair done in January. I am naturally dark brown and I had a balayage done. The only issue was I had brighter roots (much brighter) than the rest of my hair. It started to bug me & I couldn't make it to the salon so I opted for this. I am very satisfied! I chose the dark blonde hue. It did just what I needed it to. I sectioned off my dry hair, adding a few pumps to divisions within the sections, until all strands seemed saturated. I wound up waiting 30 minutes unintentionally. Rinsed it out. There was hardly any pigment while washing away by the way. No stains. No mess. It corrected/blended the blonde AND made my hair a lot softer! In the future I will buy the light brown to give that a go for a different look.
Amazing!! 5

I bought this in copper. I was skeptical because most color depositing conditioners don't take my hair well. I have medium brown hair with blonde highlights and this made my hair an amazing shade of copper/red! So vibrant and deep looks like I got it professionally done. No blotchy spots at all omg my hair looks so amazing!! Will repurchase
Nice thickening feeling with a bit of color. 4

It makes my brown, colored, porous, split-end winter hair a bit thicker, and coated with color. It doesn't last long, but it's good for a weekly pickup. I wash my hair first, and let it dry, and then cover my hair with it for several hours. The trick is to use a good conditioner afterwards and it kind of seals the color in. It will cover grey roots a bit, but you have to leave it in for a long time.
Great for color-correcting! 5

I have naturally medium brown hair that I highlight blonde - so I'm a medium/dark golden blonde via years of highlighting. My hair tends to pull brassy and usually gets a few minutes of toner, but for whatever reason this last time I highlighted (maybe because I waited 4 months between appointments) the highlights were too cool and much too light. The contrast between the cool highlights and my dark roots was too much and I couldn't wait to book another appointment. I bought this in the medium blonde and left it on for about 7 minutes. It's a miracle product. My hair feels and looks great, and this perfectly toned my hair to the golden honey color I was looking for. Awesome product! Based on how much I used this go around (my hair is a few inches longer than my shoulders) I think I should get another 5-6 uses out of this bottle.
Used Copper on bleached ginger hair 5
Meribeth from Cullman, AL
I really enjoyed the gloss. I am a fake ginger that faded to a strawberry blonde that used to be a box black dyed girl for too many year. I wanted to stop using chemical dyes and have been using 100% pure natural henna. I needed something however to add to my henna to help pump up my shine. This worked so great. I ultimately should have purchased strawberry for the look I wanted as it has more golden copper colors rather than the copper which is more RED copper. Over all I have used almost the entire bottle and love having something that keeps my hair looking healthy and that does fade if I leave it on too long and my color gets too dark. The price point is however a bit high as I have A LOT of hair. I may be venture out and try more color glosses but I honestly would purchase again.
It works 5

A little pricey but worth the buy. Better than going to the salon I used black on my faded hair, I applied on dry hair for 40 mins then washed off in shower. It looks natural black with no mess or damage from dye I'm in love!
Works well 4

I used it as a base to tone my hair before I dyed it. I was going from blonde to black and needed to dye my hair a warm brown to prevent it from looking "hollow" when I dyed it black. Worked like a charm. Got my blond hair to reddish brown using the Auburn shade and washed out no problem. The only issue is that I left some of the dye on my white bath tub and it got a little stained. Also, my hands became orange after- remember to wear gloves.
Worked Wonderfully For Me! 5

This product worked wonders for me!! Longish story ahead . . .
Okay, so several months ago I dyed my hair dark blue/black with an Overtone conditioner. It was cute at first but ended up fading into an odd murky seaweed color. I stripped the color as best I could with Vitamin C treatments and but the icky undertone's of the color didn't want to budge. I was bummed because Salons were closed and I thought the Overtone color would wash out and not act as a permanent color.
So, I started looking for other options that were affordable and simple and I found this!!! I got the color Dark Brown because at the time my hair was a dark brown/green. The Dark Brown does have some reddish undertones - this may not be favorable to some. However, it worked perfectly for me because it canceled out the green and my hair was a lovely deep brown with hints of auburn.
Some people say that the color doesn't take, I believe I left mine on for about 30 mins on dry freshly clean hair and then rinsed it out again. Perhaps it depends on hair porosity. The color 100% worked for me because I noticed an even, neutral hair color opposed to the icky faded fashion color that I previously had. It lasted for well over a month and I wash my hair every 3-4 days. I never saw the green come back but will be reapplying again this weekend because I have extra. It also made my hair soooooo silky shiny smooth. It made my split ends look non existent and gave a professional blow out look! I would definitely by the clear gloss for days where I want my hair to look more slick and styled with out color.
It worked but not as expected 3

My stylist lightened my hair too much so I thought this might be good to try to buy some time before coloring it again. My hair went from platinum to light orange using the dark blonde. It's like brass on steroids. Will need to wash with purple shampoo to tone it down but otherwise it's darker like I wanted it.
I love this. 5

Leaves my hair soft and shiny.
Didn't do much at all 2
Jordon A from Harlem, GA
I have medium brown hair and purchased the Auburn shade to add a slight warmth to my hair. Left it on for the maximum time(20 minutes). The only difference is my hair is smoother and softer due to the deep conditioning properties. No color gloss whatsoever.
Love it 5

I used the Auburn on my dark brown with red highlights hair. It turned out fantastic. I left it on 30 minutes and it looked like I had just been to the salon. Highly recommend!
Works for gloss, not color 3
Sophia from St. Louis MO
If you're looking for a treatment to make your hair shiny and soft then you will like this. I would not recommend for color. I used the medium brown and it didn't really boost the color much. If I buy again I will just buy the clear product to avoid the mess.
Did Nothing 1
Christine from Seattle
I have dark blond to light brown natural hair color. This did absolutely nothing other than a small amount of color deposit that all washed out the next day. Created no shine or conditioning. I used it on damp hair and left it in for about 30 min.
FOR BLONDE TO BLACK USE ON DRY HAIR! 4
JOANNA K from BAY AREA
I bought this hoping that I could use it to cover up the blonde hair I had since no hair salons were open due to covid. The first couple of times I used it on damp hair as the instructions said and it made my hair grey with some green tones which I was ok with. Most recently, I used it on dry hair and it worked so much better! It covered up all the blonde. I guess with the damp hair it watered down the product so there wasn't as much pigmentation. It will fade so you have to use it regularly if you want to maintain the color.
Also recommend this for MAINTAINING BALAYAGE OR HIGHLIGHTS.
If purple shampoo isn't getting the tones you want anymore or you want to go just a little dark or get more dimensions of color but can't make it to the salon I would recommend this.
Side note: Not sure if your hair will come out orange if you try to bleach it after using this product. I plan on letting the product fade before I get highlights again.
Totally works as advertised! 5
Kristin from Cookeville, TN
I was a little skeptical but this stuff WORKS! I have natural medium brown hair with blonde balayage that has grown out to an ombré. I wanted the blonde to be more of a light brown for a more subtle ombré - I used the medium brown gloss and it did just what I wanted! I left it on damp hair for about 15 minutes. I didn't buy this for the gloss/deep conditioning aspect, but it made my hair shiny and very soft. I definitely recommend this product if you're looking to balance out or tone your color in between salon visits.
Good stuff! 4

I almost judged this product too quickly, but it did exactly what I needed it to do. My natural hair is brown and I got the black one, which came out more like a natural black or black/brown, but not jet black. I didn't notice the difference until I put my extensions back in to compare the color. I applied it in the shower, but definitely should've worn gloves, because this stuff will stain your hands for HOURS. My hair did feel a little crunchy and dry at first as if I put mousse in it, so I definitely had to follow up with a deep conditioning hair masque. This stuff says it's also a deep conditioner, but no. It's super drying which freaked me out for a second. Overall, I'm super happy I was able to darken my roots without having to go through the dye process all over again. Saved me a lot of time and stress

Gives you the control of how dark/light you choose as well as how often you need! Stays a long time and adds the perfect amount of natural color and shine! And it's adds so much rich buttery softness!
It was okay 3

Product was okay my hair looked blotchy and color didn't look even
Turned my hair orange 1
Sami from Richmond, VA
I got the dark blonde color and when I dried my hair after, it was super brassy and orange. Not to mention zero shine! Not worth it. I would recommend the Moroccan Oil brand mask instead!!!
Very Drying, Frizzy Mess 1
Bridget from New York
I was hoping to get something that would give my (dyed) dirty brunette tailbone-length hair a little extra shine for a photoshoot, so I picked up the sheer version. Instead, it totally dried out my locks. I've never seen my hair so frizzy! The ends are almost crunchy, and it's even duller than when I just use my regular shampoo and conditioner. Dull, dry, frizzy nightmare. Avoid!
Not black, but did tone and add shine 4
El from Maryland
I have naturally very dark brown hair that was fading a little bit and pulling a little too red. I got the black gloss to tone the red and make my hair overall darker. I used this on dry hair for 25 minutes. It was definitely messy to apply and took a decent amount of product but I expected that because my hair is very thick and about waist length. It gets on the shower tub a little bit but it's easy to wash off with water. The color payoff was ok, I could see a difference and it was less orange and a little bit darker, but DEFINITELY not black. It did the job for me, but if you want a deep dark black, this didn't do the trick. It might be darker if I had left it on longer, so if you really want to try this and see intense results, maybe leave it on for an hour or so. My hair does seem pretty shiny. I also didn't love the smell, and I'm not particularly picky about fragrances usually. Make sure to use the gloves and wash any spots off your neck too!
If you're looking for natural red, do NOT choose Copper 4
Amber from Kentucky
While my hair feels amazing and looks shiny, Copper was definitely not the right choice for me. I was looking for something to help maintain a natural-looking red in between salon visits. I look like a firetruck. I'll give Strawberry a try next time.
Worth the money! 5

I have dark brown hair and like it darker and this is great product to use instead of dying it. It also leaves my hair so soft and healthy feeling. I have recommended this to everyone because I think so highly of it.
Not true to color 3
Melodi from Arlington, TX
I bought the dark brown to make my brown hair darker. I left it in for the full 20 mins into freshly clean, damp hair. After my hair fully air dryed I compared it to my pictures in the exact same light. It is glossier and for some reason it is redder. No hint of darkening.
