I've been on an endless hunt for a daily SPF that doesn't irritate my skin. I'm one of the "lucky" ones who seems utterly incompatible with SPF, whether mineral or not. I thought I found my holy grail with Super Goop's Zinc Screen, but as many positives as it has - the greasiness was something I could not get over. I really liked Biossance's original SPF 45 - then they discontinued it. I opted to give Kinship a shot for 2 reasons: a. the reviews were mostly positive b. it was on the cheaper side for a higher end sunscreen.
I've been using it daily for over a week and these are my initial impressions:
1. I have not had any irritation, which is rare.
2. It has not aggravated my acne or caused any new breakouts at this point.
3. It does have a slight cast upon initial application, but it seems to blend away pretty efficiently and becomes undetectable after soaking in to the skin. I do have a light skin tone, however, so I'm not sure how much more difficult it might be to blend on darker skin tones.
4. It does smell like cupcakes and the scent is detectable for anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes, at which point it disappears. The smell does not bother me, even though I'm not a fan of pastry scents for my skincare.
5. None of that classic sunscreen smell, which is usually a common issue with mineral sunscreens.
6. It has a dewier finish, though it is not oily or greasy. I do have oilier skin and it makes my skin look healthy and glow-y. That said, as your skin gets oilier throughout the day, it will obviously look shinier and the finish of this SPF will not aid that - but I find mattifying SPFs to be too drying so this is a small issue I am willing to deal with.
I apply this in the morning, on top of a moisturizer, so I cannot speak to its moisturizing benefits. But based on the consistency and how my skin feels - oilier skin types may be able to get away with this as their only moisturizer if they wanted to.
This contains Non-Nano Zinc Oxide. Based on my research, this is one of the best ingredients in sunscreen in regards to being reef safe and is better than typical Zinc Oxide found in sunscreens. I applaud Kinship for this, but this is where the praise stops.
The third ingredient is Coconut Alkane. This is an extremely concentrated form of Coconut Oil. I think it's bogus of Kinship to put on the bottle (not the box) that this sunscreen is great for blemish-prone skin but have something NOT recommended for blemish prone skin and is very pore clogging as the third ingredient. Don't know why other reviewers say this formula is greasy? THIS is why. It feels greasy and thick and it just feels like something is on my skin.
I think this would have great potential if they just remove the coconut alkane. I don't know with what since I don't know the other options to keep this sunscreen vegan and organic, but if they could reformulate it to actually make it blemish-prone friendly I think that would be amazing.

I have tried several sunscreens for the face and they all get like tacky/flaky when you touch your face after even hours of being applied. this sunscreen does not do that it makes my skin feel soft without little flakes coming off when I touch. Gives the skin a nice glow as well I LOVE this sunscreen!

I think this is a wonderful moisturizer for the winter, and any areas that have dry and humid-free climates. Since this is a moisturizing sunscreen, it tends to keep your face dewy and plump- which I love! I do notice that during the summer where I am, in New Jersey, this sunscreen tends to feel too heavy for me, due to the humidity outside. I do reach for this in the summers at NJ, and I plan on using it while I am in Yellowstone for 7 months, because there is no humidity there and it will be perfect! In other words- if your skin tends to get very dry in the winter, and more normal/oily in the summer, this would be a good winter sunscreen. And if you live in a very dry and humid-free climate, this would be a great sunscreen- it will keep your skin moisturized all day and will not cause any breakouts!

She doesn't really like to have "heavy" or even "medium coverage foundation/etc stuff on her face so when she tried this out, it was a perfect fit for her. she says "it's a sun protector and a tint/light foundation all in one. she loves the glow it gives her skin

Didn't work for my skin normal to combination skin.

I bought the smaller size tube six months ago. I use it daily, and I only just now ran out. It looks gorgeous on—radiant without being all shiny and oily like most sunscreens. And it doesn't break me out. My holy grail SPF.

This is probably my all-time favorite skincare product (I've been using it daily for 1 yr+ now). I no longer use foundation - just this tinted sunscreen (sometimes not even under eye concealer because I truly love the dewy, glowy, sunkissed finish this gives my normally dry/dull skin). I will literally cry the day they stop making this sunscreen – it's changed my life and my relationship with my skin (seriously my derm even asked what I was doing differently when I saw her for the first time after a couple months of adding this to my routine).
I see how it could be considered "greasy" on folks with more oily skin – so I definitely only recommend if you suffer from dry, sensitive skin like me. It's also tinted, so I'm not sure what the cast would be on folks with darker skin tones.

Works well on my face, I have very sensitive fair skin was rosacea and I haven't had any issues yet with this sunscreen, love it!

This product is great, when i don't have any physical activity to do that day. I walk to school everyday (about 0.7 miles) and by the time i get there, it makes my face so sweaty, it kind of melts off my face i guess? and its not that I am sweaty, before using this, I never experienced that, so its always really awkward getting to school and having my face super sweaty. My skin is naturally pretty tan and when I put this on at first, it does leave a white cast, but it goes away within 30 minutes. However, if I'm not walking that day, its super good, it almost smooths out my face and I have not felt the need to apply foundation.

I really like this sunscreen for when I'm super dry and have really irritated skin, but it also makes me sweat really bad. It took me months (I know…I should've figured it out sooner) to figure out what was making me so sweaty and I only realized when I started using a different sunscreen.

Ignore all of the reviews that say this is greasy. It is not! They must have gotten a bad batch. I use three finger lengths, not grease. No white or grey cast. I could use even more and it would settle dewy, not greasy. If you buy this and it's greasy, give it ten minutes then take a look. You should always let a sunscreen settle for ten minutes. I love this one! It is fragrance free but smells amazing. Like vanilla ice cream! Not in a gross way. It goes on so smooth and creamy. I get great protection from it, and choose it for indoors because it is only broad spectrum spf 32, and I prefer at least broad spectrum spf 45+ for outdoors. Overall a 9/10! Great. :)

I have purchased this product three times (and will continue to buy it again and again). I have gotten friends to buy this too. I even tried a different sunscreen that was less expensive and knew the Kinship sunscreen stayed my favorite. I love the glow and nourishment it gives my dry, sensitive skin. I also have brown skin and this leaves no white cast (after you rub it in for about a minute) - there can be a purple tint though, but I have never thought it was noticeable. This is my favorite sunscreen of all time.

I've been using this sunscreen for a few months now and I mostly like it quite a bit. It seems very hydrating and it makes your skin glow so it's definitely made for normal and dry skin, maybe combo if it had dry patches but I'm not sure if oily skin would like it all that much since it can be pretty heavy and could leave it oilier. It hasn't broken me out in any way and my sensitive skin does seem to handle it pretty well, and I have mild rosacea and eczema and my skin is very dry so it suits it pretty well. The only complaint I have is that it does sit on your skin for a long time without ever fully absorbing which can be very annoying especially if you're gonna put on makeup, although makeup does sit pretty well on it, I just find it kind of uncomfortable to have the sunscreen still be that thick and greasy when I'm about to put foundation on which is the reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5. I have yet to find a sunscreen that has all these benefits but still absorbs quickly into the skin without feeling greasy or heavy but I will probably continue to use this one along side others who have higher SPF. I like to use SPF50

My sister got me a set that included this because I have acne prone/sensitive skin. The first time I tried it I took it off immediately because it was so thick and my face was so shiny. I thought maybe it was because I had just put on moisturizer so it wasn't soaking in like it needed to. But I tried it again on a clean face and it was the same. I was sitting in the sun and my mom thought I was sweating because my face was so shiny. I feel like using regular body sunscreen on my face would leave it less greasy than this product. Definitely do not recommend.

I am so lucky to have found this sunscreen on sale during 20 days. I would purchase at full price. I also use it on my toddlers. Gentle and no sting. Gives a subtle glow as well.

I don't use under makeup personally. It does leave a cast.. but it can blend and after a while the cast does calm down a bit. I just love tho that this helps restore my skin barrier after all the crazy treatments I do for anti aging and acne. I use this when I need something to heal, and protect. Good for sensitive skin but don't get in your eyes.

In love with this product! I have been using this at the very end of my morning skincare routine for about 3 months now, and haven't had any irritation or breakouts. Not at all greasy & no white cast (for me).

I tried this sunscreen out bc I had heard great reviews- however i was dissatisfied. I really wanted to love it . Im pretty fair skin toned , and have acne prone skin . This sunscreen DID NOT break me out nor irritated my skin . But it did leave somewhat of a weird cast . Also , it has this weird smell to it ? Not a "sunscreen smell", idk how to describe it. Anyways after having it on , I eventually started smelling it on my skin . And it just ruined it for me . Loved that it was acne prone skin friendly but I wish the smell hadnt been an issue :( . Had to return it .

It does offer good protection. The white cast is a little less than other sunscreens, but it's still there. It's more like a pink cast, and it also has a sand-like scent. Word of advice: put on a lot moisturizer before this. I was in a rush one morning and I put the sunscreen without putting on moisturizer first. My face got so dry, even my eyelids got crusty. The weird part is my skin is oily/combination, so this was out of the ordinary for me. I will finish it but I will not buy again.

This sunscreen doesn't leave my skin feeling oily, but instead, my skin feels dewy and glowy! It's easy to reapply and blend in. It goes well with the Kinship Supermello Moisturizer. Overall, it's a really great mineral sunscreen to use daily!
Ella from West Virginia
This sunscreen is probably better suited for normal to dry skin. I have oily skin and, in the end, just found it a bit too heavy. It has a very nice texture (not all all chalky like some mineral sunscreens) and was moisturizing enough for me to use it as my daytime moisturizer. I have very sensitive acne prone skin and it did not break me out. Unfortunately, I have oily skin and it was just a bit too dewy on me. If you have dry skin you'll probably love it. I can't speak to the whitecast because I always add a drop of tinted CC cream with spf to my mineral sunscreens.

Don't believe the hype. This product is awful!!! If you have any hint of pigment in your skin, avoid this sunscreen like a plague. Not only does it leave a purple cast, it also leaves it in patches that don't blend in. Definitely not for combination, melanin-rich skin.
Blue624sky from Massachusetts
I love this sunscreen! It makes my skin look beautiful and glowy. My eyes don't burn, blends into my skin perfectly and keeps it hydrated all day. And it take a year to rub in! I e literally tried a so many sunscreens and this is one of my favs.
iheartulta from WI
I love this product. Adds a beautiful glow to the skin that looks AMAZING in the sun. I would say if you have acne prone skin it's probably not the best sunscreen for you, but I'll take the glow with a few blemishes.

I have what I consider to be dry skin, I frequently struggle with foundation patchiness issues just because my skin wants to be dry. Yet this sunscreen made my skin so oily that I was wishing I had blotting papers. I was really going to give it a real try with multiple days, but after this first I just can't stand how it feels or smells.
