My hair is naturally black (I'm Asian), but I have a blonde-light brown balayage. Which one should I get?
- Asked by Emily
- Official Answer By Hally Hair - Brand EngageGo with the Lighten Up for Brunettes. It’s formulated to lift darker hair like yours without turning it brassy, and will more gently enhance your balayage. Was this answer helpful to you
- Q
Can this be used on color treated hair
- Asked by Pooh
- Official Answer By Hally Hair - Brand EngageFor color treated hair, it's important to avoid overly drying out the already processed hair. Both Lighten Up options contain a lightening agent, and should only be used if your hair is conditioned regularly, healthy and hydrated. If your hair is in good condition, the blonde formula contains a blue toner which is best for blonde hair. It is recommended that you test the product on a small section of hair first to ensure you like the end result. Was this answer helpful to you
- Q
My hair is naturally super light brown and some of it is very light blonde colored. It turned like that on its own. Which color would I need to buy? The brunette or the blonde?
- Asked by Lilly
- Official Answer By Hally Hair - Brand EngageBased on how you've described your hair, it sounds like the For Blondes version would be best! Was this answer helpful to you
- Q
If i get my hair professionally bleached 1-2 times a year, can I still use this or will it melt my hair?

- Q
If i use this on my brownish black hair will it lighten it, and if it does will it be like a warm tone brown or a cool tone brown
- Asked by sophia
- Official Answer By Hally Hair - Brand EngageYes, you can expect the effect to be up to 2-3 shades lighter than your starting shade. There is a before and after in the product listing that will give you an idea of what to expect - it is more of a warm brown. Was this answer helpful to you
- Q
Is there any way reverse it? also, is it a dye?
- Asked by Emma
- Official Answer By Hally Hair - Brand EngageLighten Up is permanent so cannot be reversed. Lighten Up is not technically a dye, but a lightener that uses the heat from the sun or a blow dryer to activate. You could choose to dye your hair after if you are unhappy with the result, or test a section of hair to ensure you like the result before applying all over. Was this answer helpful to you
- Q
Do you need to wear sunscreen on your scalp or does this contain sunscreen in it?
- Asked by Emma
- Official Answer By Hally Hair - Brand EngageLighten Up does not contain sunscreen. If you would like to apply sunscreen to your scalp, we recommend applying Lighten Up to clean, dry hair first, then applying any additional styling or sun care products as needed. Was this answer helpful to you
- Q
can you use the brunette mist everyday on your hair? and many times can you use this on your hair?
- Asked by r
- Official Answer By Hally Hair - Brand EngageWe recommend taking it one day at a time - so try a day, see if you like the lightening level, and then repeat the next day if you'd like more lightening. There's no hard limit on how many times you can use it, it's more about what color/effect you're looking for. Just keep in mind that a dark brunette will not become blonde from this formula - but will see a noticeable lighter, warmer color vs. their starting shade. Was this answer helpful to you
- Q
if i have dark brown hair will the brunette one ever turn your hair blonde eventually?
- Asked by r
- Official Answer By Hally Hair - Brand EngageLighten up will lighten hair up to 2 shades. If you have dark brown hair, it will lighten it slightly without turning hair orange, but will not turn your hair blonde, which would require a more intensive hair coloring process. There is an example photo in the listing that shows what you can expect in terms of color payoff (but this is just representative). Was this answer helpful to you
- Q
Is this the same as or stronger than Sun-In? % of peroxide?
- Asked by Jenny
- Official Answer By Hally Hair - Brand EngageWe don't have the exact percentage of peroxide for a direct comparison, but the lightening agent in "For Blondes" is likely to be roughly comparable. The "For Brunettes" version intentionally has a lower level of lightening to help prevent hair from turning orange, as well as a blue toner. Was this answer helpful to you

Does this work on black hair If so will my hair turn brownish?
- Asked by Leah
- Official Answer By Hally Hair - Brand EngageThe exact level of lift that you experience will depend on your starting shade, but typically you can expect Lighten Up to lift hair 2-3 shades. With black hair, this would be a slightly lighter black into a darker brown, which mostly would be noticed in the sunlight. We recommend using Lighten Up "For Brunettes" which contains a lower level of the lightening agent than "For Blondes" - this will help prevent darker hair from lightening to an orange color. It's always a good idea to test a strand to make sure you like the end result before applying over your whole head. Was this answer helpful to you
- Q
how well does it work on brunnet hair?
- Asked by sarah
- Official Answer By Hally Hair - Brand EngageExpect that the "For Brunettes" formula will lighten hair up to 2-3 shades. To lighten without turning hair orange, this formula has a lower level of the lightening agent than the "For Blondes" formula, as well as a Blue Toner. Was this answer helpful to you

MAGIC!
Hair Type Straight Hair
This is amazing!! Pure magic! I've been using it for a week and my hair is so much blonder, I'm in love!! I've already recommended this to my friends! I was worried it would turn my hair orange, but instead worked like a magical salon appointment! 10/10!
lighter in js one use!!
I really like this product! it dramatically lightened my hair after using it js once. I am kinda disappointed tho that it leaked in the box during delivery. about ⅓ of the product had spilled, but it did lighten the cardboard of the box so I guess it works in more than js hair lol! I will definitely be repurchasing this product, and if u want a lighter look for summer (or any other time), u should get it too!!

I've looked for so long to find a non-damaging lightener, and after some research I found Hally. I was really excited because of all the good reviews but was somewhat disappointed. bought this a few days ago and used it a couple times and I've been noticing a LOT of breakage in my hair. I have extremely naturally straight and thick hair and I use regular shampoo and conditioner. I haven't seen much change as I have only used it twice, but it smells incredible.
