I have naturally medium brown hair and I color my roots to eliminate the grey. I just had a formaldehyde free keratin treatment and it lifted the color on my hair and to a coppery brown. My hair stylist will fix the color in a week - will this shampoo help eliminate the brassyness in the meantime? Is it safe to use after a formaldehyde free keratin treatment?
- Asked by Abby
- Official Answer By dpHUE - Brand EngageYes—our Cool Brunette Shampoo is a great temporary fix to help tone down brassiness and neutralize unwanted warm tones in brown hair. It deposits blue pigments that counteract coppery hues, giving your color a cooler, more balanced look while you wait for your salon visit. It’s also safe to use after a formaldehyde-free keratin treatment. Just be gentle—use lukewarm water and follow with a hydrating conditioner to keep your hair smooth and protected. A strand test is always a good idea to see how your hair responds post-treatment.Was this answer helpful to you

Hello, I have colored my hair light brown for years, now have moved to Florida where the sun has bleached hair to a light brown with strawberry type blond highlights. Will this tone down the Strawberry blond to make it less red and more cool/natural looking in between coloring? I am hoping not to get blue deposits on the lighter strands (I have heard horror stories with other products).
- Asked by Mary
- Official Answer By dpHUE Brand Engage TERMINATEDHello! Yes, this will help tone down the strawberry tones. I would start with leaving the shampoo on 1-3 minutes and you can increase the time left on for more intense results. Was this answer helpful to you

I have natural medium blonde hair. When I was younger it used to be more of an ash tone, the last few years it has started picking up more and more copper/red tones. I also have started losing the pigment, so I have a good amount of white strands that blend in. I don't want to dye it, I just want to restore it to the ashy color. Will the cool brunette turn the white strands blue?
- Asked by JoJo
- Official Answer By dpHUE Brand Engage TERMINATEDHello! If you are more blonde toned, I would recommend the Cool Blonde Shampoo and Conditioner. Our Cool Blonde Shampoo will cancel more yellow/orange tones and our Cool Brunette will cancel more Orange/Red tones. Hope this helps! Was this answer helpful to you

I have naturally medium brown hair, but have dyed it red/mahogany many times in the past, and more recently a color closer to my natural color. I've decided several months ago to let all the color grow out of my hair, but as my hair has faded, it has turned into a really brassy orange/blonde. Will this product tone that down during the growing out process?

My colorist recently dyed my hair a horrible black, and said she could "fix it" but she just made it orangey and bleached. I went to a new place and dyed it a light natural brown, which is what I originally asked for. My hair is pulling orangey yellow tones under the color still. Should I use the purple or blue shampoo?

Best blue shampoo for sensitive skin but has fragrance
I use this to tone my very dark brown, dyed hair (darkest intense brown NN). It keeps the brassiness at bay when needed, and it's especially helpful when my color needs to be refreshed soon. It can't cover grays, but nothing is worse than having gray AND red roots. I only wish this shampoo was frag...

Doesn't do what it promises
I have naturally medium brown hair and had dyed my hair a darker brown at a salon. As it started to wash out it started to have a more noticeable red undertone that I didn't like, so I bought this in an attempt to tone it between salon visits. I have previously used a purple shampoo on brassy highl...

Didn't tone for me
Reviewed at

Bummed that I really didn't see a difference in my red/orange tones when using this. I have color treated brunette hair, have used this twice so far and left it on for more than 5 minutes. Didn't notice any cool toning effect- my hair looks exactly the same before and after. Used with the conditioner.
Saved me salon trips
This has reduced the amout of time i need to go to the salon. Even my husband notices my hair is darker when i use this shampoo!! A must have for brassy brunettes.
One bottle will last me until I get back to the salon

I noticed a difference right after I used it but then soon after the brassiness came back
Didn't do anything
Smells nice, lathers well, but didn't do anything for me unfortunately. Highlighted brunette with lots of orange and red coming back. Didn't do anything, might try Matrix for brunettes, it's green based so maybe that will do the trick. this may work on those who are lighter brunettes.
yes I would purchase again
