Most Helpful Positive Review Leaves My Hair Platinum :) It's my first time having blonde highlights and this purple shampoo has kept the yellow tones out of my hair. :)
I'm addicted to keeping my hair platinum blonde. I'll let it get to champagne blonde at the most. But unfortunately my colorist didn't not bleach my bangs as long as the rest of my hair, as a result, they tend to turn macaroni and cheese orange. So I end up having to apply this shampoo on it dry to make sure that part of my hair is evenly platinum like the rest of my hair. Then I wet it a little and let it sit for 5 minutes and wash it out. And it'll be as if my hair is evenly platinum all around. I love it.
I don't really have an issue with it staining my hands. I think it's important to make sure your hands are already wet so it doesn't stain your hands and let it mix with some water so it doesn't stain your hands.
If I had a lot of shampoo (in general) it can be drying but I recommend immediately applying leave in conditioner when you exit the shower to reduce hair loss. I don't have hair loss as long as I add product when my hair is damp and before I start combing through.
I also add more leave in conditioner in the afternoon on the ends too to keep the tips from drying out due to the climate near me.
I feel like this product delivers what it promises. A shampoo isn't meant to condition. You need to apply conditioning after application.
Most Helpful Critical Review Toned Hair But Beware It's potent and tones up my bleached hair better than others I've tried, but since using it I've been experiencing more shedding and hair loss than ever before, maybe due to the controversial ingredient DMDM hydantoin? I've been using it for months and didn't realize until it was too late how much my hair has thinned out — not just regular breakage but from the scalp!
Through trial of elimination I've determined that this product must be the culprit. Maybe I am just allergic, but the ingredient DMDM hydantoin is thought to cause hair loss so it doesn't seem like a coincidence. I have very fine and fragile bleached hair and this shampoo was much too harsh, it also dries it out horribly and feels like straw after. Really disappointed because I trust(/trusted) this brand

Nice smell, didn't stain my hands or my shower! Left my hair lighter, not dried out and healthy!
Hair falling out.. 2
tennesseegirl from Tennessee
i used this once and it turned out beautifully, my hair went so much lighter, i was obsessed. 2 weeks later i used it again, and my hair has fallen out in chunks. i'm finding it everywhere. I'm not sure what went wrong. i am so heartbroken.
Works for me 3

The ingredients list isn't completely clean, but the company does omit some nasty chemicals. In my opinion that doesn't warrant switching brands as this shampoo does its job, but I am always on the lookout for the cleanest options (ingredients list) for all products I use.

It's mostly the conditioner and when you run i ran my hand through my hair, big chunks would come out.
Stylist recommended this as a great product. 4

Described as medium level product. Might go Redkin as described more intense next time.

Disappointed 2
Sher from Phoenix. AZ
Have only used it once so far. Left it in for 10 minutes as suggested by hairstylist at the store. I did not notice any difference at all. Will try it again. But, disappointed so far.
Stained hands 3

I haven't experienced hair loss like a lot of these reviews have stated but this shampoo stains my hands so bad when I wash my hair. It doesn't lather very well and leaves me finger nails and hands bright purple. It does eliminate the brass tones in my hair but other than that I would not buy again.
Gentle cleansing & great ashy toning! 5
Nancy from Westport, CT
Great gentle cleansing and toning for highlighted brown hair. I like to keep my highlights as ashy as possible and this does the trick for me! Leaves my hair feeling healthy and conditioned as well.
Also, I've seen comments about MDM hydantoin - this does not contain that ingredient.
Awsome 5

love this product. i have tried many other products that cost more, it holds the color longer. for me it does not dry my hair out a bit. however my hair is oily anyway. im so happy with this product im not looking for any other product. Oh and i get my hair highlighted all the time. i use both the conditioner and shampoo.
Talk about fried hair 3
mollya from West Virginia
This shampoo was extremely underwhelming. It gives a nice blonde color and does eliminate brassy undertones. However, this stuff made my hair extremely dry and gummy. Even when I showered it would get tangled up. I also experienced more shedding than normal while using this. I love this brand, as I use other products by them, but this…"it's a no from me dog."
i would not buy this 1

This shampoo dried up my hair. I would not use this again. My hair began to break apart after using this.
Best purple shampoo I've used! 5
Anna from Maine
This is my go-to shampoo now! I have highlighted blonde hair and this does a great job of maintaining the color while also giving a good cleanse. Doesn't cause buildup, just leaves my hair looking shiny, soft, and volumized! I have never had any problem with hair loss while using it and was very surprised to see it in so many other reviews. I'm on my third bottle!
Horrible Hair Loss! 1
Hair Loss! from St. Louis
I purchased the color balance shampoo and conditioner. I should've paid attention to the other reviews before I purchased. My hair was breaking off and falling out after using this. And not just a little hair loss… A LOT! After I stopped using it, the hair loss stopped. I'm not sure if it's the shampoo, conditioner, or both but didn't want to lose any more hair than I already had to try and figure it out! The JOICO company should definitely review these hair loss issues and change the ingredients or take the products off the market!
A nightmare 1
Kat from Michigan
I have gone through so so many purple shampoos cause I'm always looking for the best. This is not it. As soon as it touches your head your hair becomes unmanageable. So tangly so straw-like. The color clung to some parts of my hair more than others and tinged it purple. Had to soak my hair in conditioner to even be able to get my fingers through it. Took like 5-7 business days to comb it out. And then when it was all said and done my hair was SO dry. There are just so many better options than this trust me.
Beware! 1

Think about it before using this product.! It darkened my blonde highlights and made the darker parts of my hair even darker. The worst part is that it broke my hair off all over! It's horrible!
Hair loss! 1
Shelly from TX
I loved this product before the change. So I bought it again. I used it 1 time, again 1 time, and 2 days after while brushing my hair in the shower I noticed so much hair loss! My hair air dried and I couldn't help but notice how much thinner my hair felt. It was all I could focus on. I already have fine hair, but it literally felt like I lost a ton just over night! I'm so upset about this product, I'm taking it right back tomorrow! I read the reviews when I noticed the product changed the look to see if it was the same, and went ahead and bought it. After days of thinking about what happened to my hair I remembered the reviews saying something about hair loss and wow! I believe every single one of y'all! No one should buy this.
Does not lather well 3
Hellokitty0823 from Union, NJ
This shampoo does not lather well so I do not like it. I have to use A LOT of it to get some lather. I'm not sure if all purple shampoos are like this but this was my first one.
Beat Purple Shampoo for me 5
Heartlee from Mesa, AZ
Reading comments that this dries out your hair. I disagree, I've found this is the least drying purple shampoo for me on the market. I love how it's so pigmented so if there are days where I only need a mild refresh I can mix it with normal shampoo to get just the right tone. Usually I bleach, skip the second toner process and go right to this product. If I use a color bottle I apply directly to my roots and let it sit there for 5 min before I shampoo through to the ends. This gets my hair white blonde it's perfect. For reference I have natural level 7 hair, fine and very straight. This product really works well for me and I'm a forever customer.
If you bleach your hair stay away 2
Erica from Indiana
I have used purple shampoo for years from a variety of brands, and while they are all to some extent dry, this is on a different level. I have never had anything dry my hair out so badly in my life.
My hair is bleached so not claiming it is the healthiest, but this would even dry out my hands (just from applying) and scalp so bad. I've never had dandruff in my life but after the first use my scalp was dry, flakey, and itchy.
It is definitely the strongest purple shampoo I've ever used though so if you have major brass or are trying to get a purple sheen to your hair this is the stuff for you.
