First off, nobody taught me anything about styling hair, applying makeup, or even how clothing sizes worked.
As a teenager and now adult, I grew increasingly more fascinated and obsessed with cosmetics. Being completely self-taught, I've made a few missteps.
I mastered my staple cat-eye liquid eyeliner, foundation, powders, lips, nails, highlighters, blush, brows, blah blah blah... But eyeshadow. I had a very complicated relationship with eyeshadow.
I wanted so badly to use it. I would spend a lot of money on beautiful compacts and pots, MAC, Urban Decay, Lancome-- no drugstore stuff. But no matter what I did, it looked like garbage. Being a traditional artist, I know quite a bit about color theory, blending, feathering, layering etc. While applying eyeshadow isn't the exact same as painting, it's close enough that I couldn't understand why my eyeshadow looked so... bad.
My husband decided to indulge my makeup addiction for my birthday many months ago by gifting me the Urban Decay Vice box. I stared sadly at the beautiful rectangles of pigment. I took out the mascara and eyeliner before putting the box somewhere to be admired but not used.
Fast forward to the recent past. I was cycling out old makeup when I opened the box again and noticed the primer potion. I had forgotten all about it. Dubious, I squeezed a bit on my fingertip and applied it to my lids. I was doing this to justify throwing it away. I had to at least *try* right?
All of the sudden, my eyeshadow looked amazing. Runway professional. The color looked exactly like it looked on the palate. It blended effortlessly, seamlessly. I was so proud of myself, I didn't remove my eye makeup when I went to bed (shh.) The next morning, everything was as if I had just applied it.
This is a stupid long review, but I wanted to get it across that this stuff WORKS. It's *absolutely* worth it. I wouldn't even bother wearing eyeshadow without it. If you have a hard time with eye makeup, it may not be you. This is a great example of where product really makes a difference.
I'm done trying to make this work!
I've used the original for years, but the anti-age formula seemed like a good idea, and the fact that it was UD made me feel comfortable about buying something new.
Maybe I got a bad batch, but this primer is not at all what it claims to be, and in my opinion no where near how the original performs! Plus I didn't really see any benefit as far as the anti-age claim.
First, you have to wait a while for it to set, if you try to apply your shadow right away it can be a little too tacky and you wont get a smooth application. This really doesn't bother me, I typically apply it first.
Once it's set the shadows look great, blend perfectly and look smooth, which is great. But the staying power is totally off compared to the Original formula. For me this creases around the 6th hour and I have to reapply/blend the crease out. I do have oily lids, so I'll put that out there, but it's just not what I'm used to, especially for the price. I've had it too long now to return it, so keep your receipt if you decide to try it out!
Solid product. My eye makeup lasts all day.
Holds eyeshadow all day till I take it off.
used to be my go-go primer for years because i could never finish a full bottle. the formula recently has either changed or has had inferior ingredients added because it does not hold my shadow the way it used to. UD also has certain business practices i don't agree with. moving on
I have been using this primer for years and can always rely on it! My eyeshadow has never creased while using this product!
The only eye makeup primer that goes on light and makes my eye shadow pop out and look flawless all day long.
