- Q
How is this color safe if there is sulfate in the ingredients?
- Asked by Giana
- Official Answer By Matrix - Brand EngageHello there, thank you for reaching out about Biolage Color Last Shampoo. We only use sulphates in our rinse-off products. These products can be used without any fear of skin or scalp irritation as the contact with the skin is very short. Sulphates are ingredients synthesized in the laboratory from fatty alcohol and ours come from a vegetable origin. Sulphates are used at an appropriate concentration to ensure the efficiency of our products without any compromise on skin or scalp tolerance. Additionally, we offer products that do not contain any sulfates. Sulphates are ingredients that create the foaming effect of shampoos and shower gels for example and that help rid the skin and hair of soiling. To identify them in our products, look at the ingredients list on packaging. They can be found under names such as SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE (SLS), SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE (SLES), AMMONIUM LAURYL SULFATE. My favorite shampoo of all time!
I use biolage shampoo every day! I love the entire line by Matrix. My hair always smells, feels and looks terrific! I have tried other shampoo but always go back to Biolage. It's truly the best and I would swear by it!

ColorLast shampoo doesn't compare to Color Care
the clear gel ColorCare shampoo is awesome, purchased ColorLast last week - milky white consistency gel. Makes head itchy and limp hair. Really disappointed in this newer version. Want the clear - older version back

Not the same formula
I buy enough stock to last an entire year so when I restocked this year, I found it strange that the bottle had changed and the formula is definitely different since I have last year's bottles on hand you can feel the difference in the product as well it doesn't foam up as much and it doesn't leave your hair feeling as smooth. Sadly, I'll be taking this product back and having to find a new one.
I would buy this product again, but...
Hair Type Wavy Hair
The bottle has change, and I think the formulation has. The bubbles are thick and tiny, leading me to feel like I get a better wash. (I know it's only the sulfates making it feel that way.) The bottle is also smaller than the previous design, I'm sure. I think the color lasting for up to 4 weeks is less than before too. The HUGE PROBLEM is that the new logo is the same color as the type (pink for color treated hair), and even in the store, I had to read closely to see if I was getting shampoo and conditioner. I got the right shampoo, but I got shampoo instead of conditioner for the Ultra Hydro Source. The type is probably 8 pt. in black.
Nothing like the old formula
Hair Type Wavy Hair
I have been using this shampoo for 15+ years and always purchase the liters during the sale. So sad to say that this shampoo's formula has been changed and is total garbage now. I started using a new bottle two weeks ago and my hair has way more fallout, my scalp has sores, and my hair feels like straw. Not sure why every company has jumped on the bandwagon of changing their holy grail products. Cheaper production costs and ingredients is not always better.
Disappointed
Why would you put soybean oil in this product!!! Ugh I can no longer use this product now cause of soybean.
I like the shampoo
Hair Type Wavy Hair
I have wavy hair and need to use shampoo and conditioner that is good for the hair .
