I purchased the original black Denman brush based on it's reputation as THE brush for thick curly 3B hair, and wanted to see if the hype was real. This brush did not disappoint. The bristles are long enough to go through and detangle my wet hair. They were also very firm and noticeable on my scalp w...

Not worth the hype
I have 3B/3C natural curls. When I style my hair in sections I end up with a mix of huge clumps I have to manually pull apart and stringy curls I have to either run the brush through again or finger style. I find the Denman brush works best for my curls when I do one curl at a time, but if I'm going to style one curl at a time, I'd rather finger style. I've watched every youtube tutorial, tried every combination of products, and even taken rows out of the brush. I honestly think finger coiling is much easier, takes about the same amount of time, and creates better results. The bristles are also very hard and no matter how slippery and wet my hair is, it always snags. I have much better results when I style with flexible tangle teezer type brushes. I think if you have wavy hair and want curls this could be a good option, but if your curls can spiral with no help, I think the Denman is a waste of money. Get a more flexible brush or learn to finger coil if you want all of your curls to be uniform. I gave it two stars and not one because I do like the results when I do the "brush and wrap around the handle" technique. That technique takes a while, so I only do that with a few pieces around my face.
Worth the hype
I've been using my Denman brush for 5 years and I can't live without it. This brush is a game changer. My curls are so defined and I constantly get compliments from strangers.
What I expected
I have long wanted to buy this but always put it aside. Sawthat it was now being sold at Ulta and took my chance. I love it and would recommend. My curls are so defined.
