Good Product, Not Perfect I used to only buy a pink brush cleaner from a well-known three letter brand. It's not exactly on the "affordable" end of things but it's always been a necessity. I found that I could use that product to either do a deep clean in the sink, or put it in a spray bottle and do a spot clean. So, when I saw this, I assumed this would be the same since it was already in a spray bottle. So, the first time I used it, I sprayed it as I would with my other cleaner, as well as the homemade cleaner I made. When I went to swirl my brush on the hand towel to get the product out and wipe it off, the brush lathered up. So, this already was a much-different formulation than the one I was used to. I decided not to rinse it, just so I could test what it would do with my brush (this wasn't an expensive brush, although a nice one, so I wasn't worried about the potential because I have many backups of it). When the brush was completely dried the next day, it had that still-wet appearance, the way the bristles kind of cling together when they're wet, so at first I thought this wasn't going to be a good thing. But, I picked the brush up and swirled it on my hand to loosen up the bristles and they went back to their normal shape and appearance and actually went closer to a new appearance- no "frizziness" like some of my brushes do. This tells me that the brush was conditioned really well since it smoothed the bristles back out to normal. So, as far as the ingredients, it seems to have good conditioners in it.
As far as how well it cleaned, it did pretty well, but not perfectly. I've definitely used other cleaners that perform better at getting the makeup that's really worked into your brush out. This is the reason for knocking off one star.
The smell is a medicinal lavender smell. Not chemically, but an organic lavender scent, which has a medicinal (could be confused for chemical) scent to it. I love all lavender oil scents from medicinal to more floral, so I enjoy the scent.
Brush Cleaner This brush cleaner is a brush shampoo that is applied to a wet brush, massaged into the bristles, and then rinsed out with water. It works very well for cleaning powder product brushes but isn't as effective for liquid product brushes. My eyeshadow brushes always look like new after cleaning with this (instant clean!) but unfortunately my liquid foundation brush never looks 100% clean using this (and because I don't wear foundation every day, I clean the brush every time I apply foundation.) I haven't tried to clean a sponge or other applicator with this product, but I imagine it would be the same result (powder would come out but not liquid.) Also, the smell of this product is pretty awful. I will probably continue to use this bottle until it is finished, but I won't repurchase. I'll be on the hunt for something that can actually effectively clean my foundation brush.
Does not clean well, brushes still had makeup on them. 1

My Sonia Kashuk spray brush cleaner was discontinued and I tried this one out. While I can tell it is conditioning my brush, it is not cleaning it. My brushes are lighter and the tips. After using this cleaner according to the directions, I could tell the foundation was still on it. I had some leftover Sonia cleaner, and there was a ton of product that came out easily with that one. I guess I'm still on the hunt for a product that truly lifts the foundation and doesn't just condition.
