I recently graduated from college & am working a summer cashier job. In school, I could easily paint my nails with regular polish & have them last weeks & weeks, because I rarely did anything more strenuous than open some books & write some notes. Working a job where I'm handling money & cash drawers, opening boxes, stocking shelves, etc., has been a totally different story though. I struggled to keep fresh polish on for more than a day or two, so I decided I would splurge on this [the Gel Polish, not Strips] kit!
I would say a minimum requirement of this product would have to be that you are especially adept at painting your own nails. It's crucial that you don't get polish on your cuticles or the skin around your fingers because the polish lifts off the skin & then pulls it off your nails in the process. For me, this kit was a snap because I've gotten quite good at painting my own nails perfectly the first time around, & didn't deal with any frustration surrounding that.
I also think it's important to READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. So many people are leaving poor reviews because they blatantly didn't read the instructions & then had a bad experience due to their own ignorance. The polish peels up if you get it on your cuticles or skin - it says that in the instructions. It also says that the polish will feel tacky until you wipe it with the alcohol swabs at the very end [I usually make sure to also wash my hands well with soap & water]. The instructions tell you how best to remove the polish, which I KNOW works really well without ruining your nails because I've done it. I soaked a cotton ball in the remover SH included, put it on my nail, wrapped my fingers up in aluminum foil & then played some games on my cell phone for 20 minutes. I didn't even have to put work into scraping off the polish - the polish just falls right off the nail! I was surprised because the first time I removed this gel polish I skipped the included remover & used pure acetone instead because I assumed it would work better. It did work, but there was definitely scraping & ugliness involved there.
& if you struggle once with a product [ANY product, not just this one], give it another try. How often can you do things perfectly the first time? You normally can't, so it's silly to think this product or any other is 'terrible' after you've only used it once. ESPECIALLY if you don't follow the instructions properly, like many reviewers here. I had a less-than-stellar experience my first try with this kit because I decided I wanted to do a French mani for my first one [YIKES], & I used the SensatioNail French gel kit that includes white polish stickers for the French tips. That was a complete nightmare for me because I had never used polish stickers before - but with a little patience & an ability to laugh off the uneven tips, I got it finished & it looked pretty good for a few days before I got sick of it's imperfections. Regardless, no matter how much I disliked that process, I'll probably still try it again at least once - maybe looking up some tips online beforehand. If it still sucks as much as it did the first time, THEN I think it's fair to say that product either isn't that great, or I'm just not that great at using it. My point is, TRY, TRY AGAIN. Don't give up the first try!
Ultimately, I really like this product, though I do agree with those saying they wish there were more colors - I've already tried SensatioNail gel polish & know it works with this kit & they have a slightly larger selection, so that's an option, but I'd like to use SH if I could.
I loved the staying power of this gel polish manicure system. I type a lot at my job, and I do gardening, so I need a polish that lasts through all that. The Sally Hansen gel polish lasted a week, which was fine. But, the problem arose when I changed the polish. You have to soak your nails in acetone in order to get the old gel off. This caused my nails to become extremely brittle, and my long nails broke off below the nail line. This was disappointing because I love having long nails. Throughout the course of a normal day 3 of my nails broke. So, I do not recommend this product nor will I purchase it again. I kept my receipt, so I will be returning it, and going back to Diamond Strength polish. You also need to consider the negative effects that consistent buffing can have on your nail plate. In order to have a lasting gel polish manicure, you have to buff your nails first. Eventually, this will make your nails paper thin. I'd also like to note that I've encountered this problem with the Gelish brand of gel polish as well.

I bought this today to save money on my nails. My nails never fully dried. I really wish I could get my money back. They definitely either need to create a new formula or better lamp.

i love this gel nail polish. it is actually so insanely pretty and it doesn't take too too long to dry. it also doesn't chip that bad and removing it is not that hard if you do it correctly. if you make sure to use a strong nail polish remover and keep it on for a minute or too it flakes away easily. it also applies nicely and looks wonderful the shine of the gel is really pretty as well!

The light barely cures the nails. Definitely does not cure in the 30 second recommended cure time. I had to continuously press the button and my nails are still not dry.

This kit was my first introduction to gel polish. I was pleasantly surprised with it. Starting with the packaging it was sleek, compact, and informative. I was afraid that I was going to mess up the application but it was super easy and the directions were clear. The drying time was a little spotty for me but the finish product made up for that.

It's interesting reading the negative reviews because I have never experienced any issues with this product. Maybe it's their technique but my nails last weeks and I've saved so much money. No more $85 gel mani/pedi when I can get the exact same DIY result. Would absolutely recommend.

Easy for a good DIY mani!!

I liked that they give the option for a starter kit so you don't have to buy all pieces separately. It is a nice consistency and the perfect red color

This was my first gel kit I ever purchased and it's probably the reason why I started using gel instead of regular polish every so often! The color also lasts a very long time.

I just got the kit home and followed the directions closely. Unfortunately the gel won't cure. I suggest reaearching the various lights available prior to purchase.

Really love how this turned out. I am aweful with keeping polish on and love how the gel makes my nails feel thicker but dont have the time or money to go to the salon every other week. Decided to give this a try and it was great! Super easy! Faster than going to the salon. And much more affordable! Hopefully with practice i woll gwt bettwr hut even with it being my firest tey i think they came out pretty good! Hoping i can find more colors and look forward to trying it on my toes next!

I really love it . I would definitely would recommend it .

I give this a 2 star because that is about how many days the polish lasts before it starts to lift. I added a top coat of Hard as Nails and that gives it about 2 more days. Having to do my nails every 4 days will deplete the kit in probably tops 2 months

I needed to get my nails done, but was on a deadline with a family illness. Decided to grab this kit & see how it worked.. I am beyond pleased with the product and the outcome ❤️❤️❤️!! My nails feel as strong as they do when I can catch-up with my Nail Tech, and the color is light and beautiful.

I read the directions and used this prior to vacation. I was disappointed that some of the polish was peeling off the next day.

It's great! Worth the price! I don't know why other people said it's not worth it they probably are doing it wrong! Worth the price! Dried fast! I'll start doing my own manicures at home now!

This product worked but it took awhile to dry. Also the polish was very sheer. I thought my nails weren't dry initially because they felt tacky after removing from the lamp but after wiping with the provided pads the nails dried.
Also this lamp is very small.

This did not work for me. It chip 2-3 days after I applied it. I was disappointed. I am not sure if it was missing something or not but it wasn't salon quality.

This is an absolute waste of time! I tried it on 3 separate occasions & used the dryer between all 3 steps! After complete, nails are tacky & perked right off. So VERY disappointing!!! Do NOT buy & waste your time & money!

Not at all what I was expecting.

Theses are nice but I would recommend getting a different glue and not use the one that comes with it. The style is really pretty doesn't damage your nails.

I really like this product. It's not that expensive and it gives a near salon perfect manicure. The only downside is that it doesn't last as long as the gel manicures I get in the salon, but it definitely better than regular nail polish.
