This is one of my favorite mascaras. Sometimes I run out and rely more on one of my other mascaras (hey, I need to have options!). Then I run into Ulta and spot this and forget why I quit using it. The mascara isn't water proof (but they offer waterproof mascaras), but it lasts all day on me for an average day. Some of my days end up being more than just an 8 hour work day - it recently lasted 9 hours of work, plus a quick dinner out, then 3 hours of a training. I expected it to smudge a little, but no problems! I never have issues with smudging for me, unless I rub my eyes a ton or my allergies are in full force.
My skin (and eyes) are somewhat sensitive - not the most sensitive out there, but more so than most of my friends. I have no issues with this mascara, and have been using it on and off for several years now. I love that one quick coat can give a better than natural look, or you can build it up. If you do build it up (which I always do), I love that it doesn't get stiff or flaky. It rarely clumps for me, but when it does, a quick brush through with a lash brush fixes it (this happens if I apply a ton, and again, not often).
Even though it lasts all day on me, it easily washes off with my normal face cleanser (Boscia's Makeup Breakup or an Amore Pacific face wash). I also like that Tarte is a brand with more natural ingredients - okay, it's not all natural and it's not saving the world, but it's a good move if you're looking to start getting into more natural ingredients (also worth noting that natural doesn't necessarily mean better, more effective, or free of irritants!). I know that you're supposed to trash your mascara after 3 months, but since I don't use the same one every day, I never do. If I did use this every day, I think it would last a little over 3 months (I gave a friend a travel size tube I got in a gift set and she has been using it for at least 2 months - she's a blonde and I don't think that the black is too harsh on her at all).
Lights, Camera, Lashes works really well with Tarte's primer but also works well without it (I just find that the primer gives a little more oomph!). It holds a curl nicely, and thickens without huge clumps and adds length. The length isn't very dramatic, but again, you can build it up if you like. My lashes are decently long, and if I build it up too much without letting it dry, I end up with smudges on my glasses and occasionally under my eye brows.
I have tested several different mascaras this week. My goal is to find a gluten-free,paraben free mascara that performs as well as Blinc mascara (Blinc is awesome, but contains parabens, so it's time to move it out of my makeup bag). So, among those I tried from the Tarte line were Lights, Camera, Flashes AND Lights, Camera, Lashes. I am sorry to say that both were unacceptably clumpy and flaky. The newer "Flashes" version turned out to be even clumpier/flakier than the "Lashes" version. A positive was that both mascaras definitely stayed put and didn't smudge. That's very good news for those of us with oily eyes. However, the clumpiness and flakiness are show stoppers for me. I tried using a lash primer (Clinique) but it didn't help. I even purchased a metal lash comb and tried combing out the clumps, but that wasn't effective either. To be extra sure before making a final judgment, I tried both of these products for two days each, and got the same result each time. These are fresh, right-off-the-shelf from Ulta, so I don't expect they'd get any better with age. I will be returning both mascaras. I have moved on to Too-Faced Lash Injection, and have had much better results.

It is true that this mascara will add volume and length and I also liked the brush and the packaging was interesting. However, none of that is enough to overcome the "raccoon eyes" that eventually occurred when I used this product. The formula simply does not stay on your lashes and accumulated under my eyes in just a few hours. I also found it flaky to the point it was irritating to my eyes and contact lenses. It is a real shame that Maybelline Sky High lash does a much better job at a much better price. I was really excited to try it and used it on more than one occasion, but unfortunately always with the same results. It's definitely not for me and I would not recommend it.

I read many reviews and several articles and it said to try this mascara for those who use eye drops. I have not used mascara and other eye products for many years because of my dry eye and having to use eye drops all day. I do have allergies right now. may try again when the weather changes and I use less drops. so far no irritatation or eye redness definite plus. I did not like that it was clumpy on brush and when applied to lashes. it does not coat brush well either so you have to use the tip end more. took forever to dry and when it did flaking occurred. I loved that it made my eyes look wider and more open. seems to stay popping for awhile. I have straight lashes that go more down towards eye. lash curler does not work for me. going to try the waterproof and see if it withstand the eye drops.

I love this mascara for the length it gives me but it dries out too fast. I have to buy a new tube in less than a month!

This mascara doesn't add much volume or length to my eyelashes. Every time I wear it, it just looks like I have no mascara on

I love this mascara. When it was on the 21 days of beauty sales, I would buy 6 months worth. It hasn't been included the last few times. The mascara adds length and volume to my lashes. I hope Tarte never discontinues it.

If you've been searching for a dry, clumpy mascara that comes in an applicator that looks like a tampon, boy do I have the product for you! Don't waste your time or money on this product -- it did nothing for my lashes whatsoever.

I've tried lots of different mascaras over the years. This by far is the best mascara I've used.
Jen from Missouri
This mascara makes my lashes look so full and present. However, it smears terribly when you cry. Wear on happy days.

I have tried this 2 different times and even after several coats it doesn't look like I have anything on.

This mascara needs to be applied in thin costs. It will clump if your not careful. It's my second time using this and it's better than any pharmacy mascara. Definitely would purchase again.

I am totally sold on this mascara. I don't have to use a lot to have lovely long lashes.

I liked this mascara at first, however I have used the same makeup remover for years and never had a problem with mascara not coming off. Second time using the mascara I used my regular makeup remover only to have to use triple the amount and wake in am with mascara still on. This is my only complaint.

Bought this specifically to help maintain curl after using a lash curler as it was advertised as a curling mascara. Nope, I've used better drug store brands.
Ava from Private
It's expensive for cool packaging, but other than that it gives you nothing. It is cry proof though.
Lida from New Jersey
Hands down the best mascara I've ever used. It gives me lush lashes and it almost looks like I'm wearing false lashes, that's how good this mascara is.
Halz934 from Roseburg, OR
This is my favorite mascara ever and it's been hard trying to find a decent dupe. It gives great length and volume and stays put all day. My only complaint is I hate the packaging.
Mary from Rhode Island
I bought this in July and have never been satisfied. It is clumpy, does not elongate lashes and is near impossible to remove. Would never make this purchase again.

I've tried all kinds of mascaras & this is by far one of the best mascaras out there if you're looking for volume plus length. Only one coat needed & comes off easily with makeup remover.
