I got a free sample of this shampoos and conditioner and tried it a day after I received my order. It was perfect timing because the day before, I rubbed some of the Mielle oil on my hair to help strengthen abs grow my hair so this clarifying shampoo was going to get tested big time! My hair was oily, very oily/greasy for that oily and so I shampooed abs massaged vigorously. I applied shampoo twice and followed up with the conditioner. After I was out of shower, I noticed that my hair started air drying faster than normal so I proceeded to blow dry my hair but not without first apply the heat protectant lotion that I also got from DB. I brought out the big guns which was the Db boar bristle that I purchased abs got to work ;) my hair was left amazingly soft and shiny!!! It feels very airy and super soft and looks and feels super clean! I will definitely purchase the full sized products. I also sprayed their triple sec spray and my hair just looks amazing. Previous shampoos have never achieved this ;)
SHAMPOO/CONDITIONER Received a free sample of this from Ulta (with the matching conditioner) and tried it a week ago. CLAIMS: A great blowout starts with super clean hair. On The Rocks Clarifying Charcoal Shampoo is enriched with activated charcoal to purify and thoroughly cleanse both the hair and scalp-absorbing 100 to 200 times its weight in impurities. It removes product buildup without stripping or drying out hair, while vegetable protein strengthens and reinforces chemically treated or damaged hair. Gentle enough for all hair types and textures. Cheers to charcoal! LATHER: Lathered nicely, not too many suds, distributed through my fine hair easily... SCENT: SUPERRRRRR strong charcoal scent,... And it does linger in your hair after drying. I personally didn't mind this, but if you hate the scent of charcoal, this product would be too intense for you. OTHER INFO: Formulated without parabens, sulfates, & phthalates. This product is never tested on animals, and is safe for color-treated and keratin-treated hair. RESULTS: Just okay in my opinion. It did visibly clean and clarify my hair, but my 'do got greasy and dirty within 2 days (as it usually does). So this didn't extend the clean time of my hair at all, which was a tad disappointing. This did live up to the claims of not stripping my hair of moisture, so that was pretty great... My hair looked healthy, shiny, and overall cleaner. It did its job, but,... I don't know, this shampoo just didn't WOW me. It was good, but not my favorite. Would try again, but wouldn't buy. OVERALL GRADE: 3 / 5 stars

I received a travel sized sample to try this out and I'll say it it definitely strips my hair of all oils. That being said I have 4b-4c hair so my hair tends to thrive off being oiled and moisturized so if you have curly/coily hair I'd stay away from this product and only use it if you have serious buildup. If ans when you use this I'd say use a really good hydrating conditioner, a hair mask, or a really good leave in conditionder.

So I bought the travel size because I was looking for a clarifying shampoo and this had great reviews. ( I have no idea how) but anyways, tried it today and first it took me using half of the small bottle to get it to where it covered all of my hair, and then it felt like I was washing my hair with cement goo...my hair felt rough, hard to get to my scalp to massage and felt very dry for some reason. After the shower I went to brush my hair and it was tangled bad and I never ever ever get tangles or knots. I have fine long hair and this has never happend. Thank god I had my IGK good behavior prep spray, bc that helped get the knots out and soften my hair some. Wont be using this shampoo again, tossing it. Never ever had a shampoo do this....very odd cosidering people seem to love it . oh and there is no smell, I duno how ppl think theres a smell...there is not.

I have thick hair, medium length. I feel like I had to use a lot of product to get my hair clean vs the bumble clarifying shampoo or the oui shampoo

We finally found a product that actually works and helps. If you have greasy, oily and/or flaky scalp this works wonders. My daughter uses it 2-3 times a week depending on what's been going on and how dirty her hair gets. The oils in her scalp has settled so much her hair remains cleaner and shiny longer. It doesn't dry her scalp nor her hair neither. It doesn't weigh your hair down neither.

The smell is wonderful like you just walked into a drybar salon which i love but it was alittle to stripping for my hair and hard for me to lather. Im going to finish the bottle but go back to the redken cleansing conditioner after. (My hair is curly, dry, and damaged)

I have dry hair and live in a very dry area. This cleaned my hair well without making it a dry mess!

I have well water and I used to have city water. With city water my Pureology worked so well, but not when I moved. It made my hair look dirty. With the Drybar, I feel confident and my hair has never looked so good!

This is exactly what was needed for my hair! It gives a clean and sleek feeling to my hair. It removes the build up from products used with hair styling. I highly recommend the product , and as with all Drybar products the smell is wonderful!

About 9 months ago my hair kind of out of nowhere starting to have this like wet/greasy kind of texture on the underside. It would look clean on the top but when I would section it off for some reason it has this awful kind of grimy look. I tried SO many shampoos and my hair still never felt clean. Other contenders that did not stack up to this was the Briogeo Green tea clarifying shampoo. the ouai detox shampoo. the R & Co scalp scrub, not your mothers organic detox shampoo. I even tried a treseme shampoo from the drugstore. Each of these I dedicated a month plus of use and had zero results. I got my hair cut and left and STILL had the grimy issue. Until I got a blowout at drybar and they washed my hair with this miracle product. My hair hadn't felt that clean in nearly a year - I literally could have cried from joy. I will say this definitely can be drying and as someone prone to dandruff I have seen a bit of it since adding this to my routine. I am trying to go longer without a wash so I am only using this twice a week with the liquid glass shampoo and the on the rocks conditioner. If you are at your wits end with your hair - get on this train omg.

I wash my hair twice a week and I use this shampoo every Sunday night! My hair feels squeaky clean after each use and stays clean for 4 days. I highly recommend!

As someone with thick hair, it is a pain to dry and style and this shampoo has been a godsend! I can easily go at least 5 days (sometimes 6-7) between washes since this shampoo gets my scalp so clean without drying out the rest of my hair. Love it!

I first tried this shampoo when I got a sample with my DryBar brush and loved it but really had a hard time with the price tag. Then recently as I was helping my teen daughter get ready for her formal her dandruff was horrible. I saw this was in stock at the store and had to get it for her. The deal on the liter bottle is too good to pass up. After just 2 weekly uses my daughter's dandruff has improved. Oh and it got ALL of the product out of her hair the day after her formal. This bottle will last forever since 1x week use is all that is needed.

You're only supposed to use this product a few times a week to clarify your hair and remove oil and product buildup. If you use it too much, your hair will be stripped of necessary oils. My hair is naturally super oily and so using this a couple times a week really saves me from greasy hair days. I absolutely love it. The smell is strong but I love that too.

Love the way this shampoo makes my hair feel. It doesn't weigh my hair down. Don't hesitate to buy this.

Use once or twice a month for a refreshing deep scalp clean that does not dry out your hair or alter the tone of color-treated hair.

This was suggested by the hair stylist at ULTA ... I bought the mini bottle to try. It lasted a few washes and it worked great. I went back this last week to purchase a (larger) bottle and they were out of stock of the larger bottle (in the store & online!). So I purchased another mini/travel size bottle. If you put styling products in your hair, after a few weeks I seriously believe in de-toxing. My hair was shiny and bouncy after using! It might be hard on color but I'd rather have shiny bouncy hair. *as a note my hair is dark & coarse.

The shampooworks great as a clarifying shampoo. The only suggestion I would make is to buy the normal sized bottle and pour some into a travel container. The price for this tiny bottle is pretty steep.l

I use this shampoo for every shampoo but I only shampoo every three days. It has really improved the look of my hair!

My hair looks and feels it's best when I use the Drybar On The Rocks products. Love love love these products! The oil gives a lovely sheen, as well. The fragrance is also addicting!

Let me start by saying that I love Drybar hair styling products and never had a problem with them, so with that in mind I bought the charcoal shampoo and conditioner thinking it would remove product build up. It removed product build up all right... and everything else. My scalp has been stripped of oil and gave me horrendous dandruff, to the point that I have done damage to my scalp from scratching, which is embarrassing to say the least. And my hair, which has always been thick and full, is now thin and shedding a TON. It's down right embarrassing. I switched shampoo and conditioner and after one wash I've noticed that my scalp doesn't look near as irritated or flakey. If you have extremely oily hair maybe this will work for you, but if not then for the sake of your hair and scalp do. not. use.

I was having a difficult time managing my hair and my products seemed to stop working until I started using this shampoo. My hair feels so clean and the shampoo itself is very satisfying to use. Definitely recommend!

Smelled great and the clean feeling was very nice but I lost an alarming amount of hair and I cannot afford that.
