So, I am a 24 year old male that always thought my hair loss was purely hormonal and there was nothing I could do about it besides try and alter those hormones. This is because I keep my stress low, eat healthy foods, stay active, and use what I THOUGHT to be good haircare. Then I got deep into a forum and saw posts of people discussing something ELSE besides DHT, calcification or other build up of some sort, that they were trying to treat with diluted magnesium oil. I wish I could find the post. I have very dry, wavy curly hair and it seemed that neither traditional shampoos (sulfates, silicones) nor the curly-girl approved haircare made any difference, but curly-products at worst would build up and make it a little limp, but the traditional would really make my hair a weird texture and lose its curl while remaining very frizzy. Plus, who KNOWS what's in them. I did find that on day-2 or 3 no washing my shedding would get really bad. Like, 3-4 hairs every time I run my hand through my head, without fail. I also sweat multiple times a day. I always heard that shampooing was bad for your hair, but what about my scalp? If nasty things (DHT, or not) were building up and causing this shedding, I would need an effective shampoo for my scalp that wouldn't disrupt the acid or moisture barrier. Upon realizing my curly girl "moisturizing" shampoos all had butter or oil (this can not only make finer hair like mine limp, but keeps moisture from getting in the hair too!) I knew I had to try to switch things up. So my plan was too use a steroid, prescription, protein, butter/oil-free scalp-clarifying shampoo. I use COSDNA.com for all of my cosmetics as well. I learned what sulfate-derivitives (altered to be less harsh than their detergent cousins) would be safe from them and settled on trying Derma-e Scalp Relief Shampoo. It met all of my criteria. And boy, was I right. I was disappointed at first. I did the same thing I usually do cleanse, rinse thoroughly, apply my conditioner, rinse thoroughly, lightly blot with a t-shirt, and use my hair cream through the nearly-sopping-wet hair, adjust the position of the "clumps" and wait for it to dry until it was 80-90% done, then diffuse (sometimes I skip that). Sometimes I'll use an unscented body powder and/or a sea salt spray if it's too limp or greasy. I use a homemade toner on my scalp and face (spraying it on fingertips and massaging it for the scalp). It's just rosewater and witch hazel (any brand, in a dark glass spray bottle, at about a 6:1 ratio). That night, I was watching tv with my mom and sadly pulling out my hair at the same rate as before. Worse still, my scalp kind of itched MORE. But, my hair did look a little cleaner and the build up was gone, and it was a little less frizzy! So that was good. I didn't think about it much, until the next week. I started running my hands though my hair again, expecting the sad usual. Nothing. I tried again... nothing. I sorta bug-eyed at my hand, and went to sleep. The next day, and from then on, I have been losing almost NOTHING. Even in the shower, I only lost two-three hairs. Throughout the day, I probably lose a total of 10-20. But that is nothing compared to the 150+ I was losing before. I did look at the directions and it did say that it's most effective after 7 days, so that made sense to me. I really still can't believe it. It's been three weeks total and still getting the results. I am not affiliated and I NEVER leave reviews, but I am putting this out there because, a.) it could help someone that had the same problem as me and b.) with more sales, perhaps the chance of them discontinuing it will lower! I think my problem was more complex than just DHT. From what I gathered, "it" all ends up on the scalp, and if you take care of that, the damage could be stopped or minimized. I was about to risk it all and start using dht-blocking supps and foods... I'm so glad I tried this first. I think my hair loss will continue, as the hairs I do lose are in the "MPB" areas, but whatever problems that were caused from my scalp health (diffuse, but HEAVY thinning) have completely stopped and slowed the process down incredibly. In terms of texture and aesthetics, my hair has never looked so good. It's got bounce and wave, stays frizz-free but still voluminous for a long time. I could go 4-5 days without washing it, but I don't because of my active lifestyle and the fact it's gentle enough to use daily. I do love the hair cream and the toner I use, but I was using both of these things before the results came. I really think it's the shampoo. The slight itchy feeling after showers that goes away after 1-2 minutes hasn't stopped yet, but I suspect it will and it's a small price to pay for the results. With it being such a minimal formula, I don't think the chance of it messing up your hair routine is high, unless you have a sensitivity to skin-safe essential oils (I believe it uses tea tree, neem, and chamomile among others). I think it's worth a try for just about anyone. Try it for a few weeks, and be the judge. Take care of your scalp, and see what happens. Peace and blessings! :)
About a year ago I started using Redken after a lifetime of using drug store shampoo (I know, I know… I didn't understand the ingredients). However, I started noticing this random greasy/waxy patch in my hair that I just never seemed to be able to get out. I switched to Ouai for a while, which I enjoy, but the greasiness maintained. I did some research and learned seborrheic dermatitis/Malassezia could be the culprit. I tried hard to find a clean product that had the right ingredients to alleviate my problem. I came across this shampoo, which had a couple of recommended ingredients, and I've always loved Derma E, so I really expected this to do the trick. I've used the shampoo for months now, but my problem has persisted and maybe even been worse. I would leave it on in the shower for a few minutes so it could take effect, but no dice. It does feel really cool on the scalp, but I felt like I needed to use a lot of it because it's hard to get all of my scalp, plus saturate the strands. Though I do go several days without washing my hair, so it's usually fairly oily by the time I do wash it, which makes lathering a bit more difficult. Also will add that as we've progressed to winter, my scalp has been very flaky and this hasn't controlled it. Anyway, I wanted to like this more than I did and maybe I'll try it again in the future. But out of desperation last night, I caved and bought Head and Shoulders and when I woke up this morning, my hair looked great and my oily patch was practically non-existent. My boyfriend said it looked "shiny in a good way". Maybe I just needed something more stripping, but I figured the ingredients in this would have been enough since they're most commonly used to treat this condition. If you suffer from a more severe case of SD, you might need something else, but if it's mild or you just have some itching, maybe this will be enough. I will say their scalp treatment feels AMAZING and helped me not get oily as fast, so you might try that out if you seek additional relief.

I have struggled with seborrheic dermatitis for years and nothing has ever worked. I've only been using this for a week and it's made a world of a difference on my scalp and I finally have relief! I love this product!!

My scalp had been inflammed from a professional shampoo. It eas so itchy and constantly burned, did some digging and found this wonderful shampoo! Not only did it completely heal my scalp in one wash but it smells so good. I also love that its got clean ingredients!

This is a life-changing product for me because of my scalp eczema. It has clean ingredients, it's effective (even after the first use), and not expensive. It's 100% worth it. I've had eczema my whole life and not much soothes it, but this does. It's hard to squeeze so I just take the top off, not a problem!

The product helps my scalp issue but the bottle is RIDICULOUS! Can't be squeezed, and the shampoo barely drips out of dispenser lid. I need to unscrew lid, which usually leads to some waste of the product. Am lucky I didn't crack the bottle, I thought it was my arthritic hands, but my son could not " squeeze " it either. Why waste the plastic of a fancy lid, just put a simple screw top on, or change bottle.

Great dandruff shampoo! Good price point and feels like it helps my scalp especially during weeks when I'm anxiously picking.

This is hands down the best shampoo and conditioner for my scalp psoriasis. Along with a diet that eliminates foods I'm allergic to, dairy, gluten, sugar, corn, I have been able to hmget my scalp psoriasis under control.

I've struggled with psoriasis on my scalp for YEARS. Nothing could get it under control. I decided to try this shampoo and the difference after just one use is absolutely insane. Most of the dry, red plaques are cleared up. The shampoo is easier to get out of the bottle than the conditioner, but still could be in a better comtainer.

I love Derma E but your packaging is AWFUL! My husband can not even squeeze your bottles! What good is the product if you can't get it out of the bottle? So frustrated!!!! I love the face wash as well but will not buy anymore because I half kill my hands trying to squeeze hard plastic. I can't be the only person who is HATING the bottles you have chosen? Great products but the hair and face wash is ridiculous.....how did it even pass your product development?

I love the shampoo and conditioner. It has a great smell and cooling effect. Will continue to use, but switch the bottle. It's to hard to squeeze.

Wonderful shampoo for use all the time but especially helpful when I have the itches. It smells great and cleans really well. Don't love the new packaging. The plastic is really hard to squeeze. I will transfer it to my old bottle.

I have seborrheic dermatitis and have struggled with it off and on for almost 2 decades (I'm only 30). I had a flare up and none of my usual go-to's were working to calm the itching and scaliness until I tried this. I've used it for a few days now and the results are extremely promising. The shampoo and conditioner combo have a fantastic cooling affect and my hair is so soft after washing. I'n a daily hair washer and it's been perfect!

I have been having major issues with my scalp and I use a medicated shampoo every other wash but in-between the dermatologist recommended this shampoo and conditioner set to keep my scalp from flaring up. I've tried three other "scalp" type shampoos and conditioners and they made me break out after one use. I will be sticking to this brand from now on!

The plastic bottle is so hard that I am unable to squeeze it. Initially, I removed the cap to pour the shampoo but that proved to be not a great idea. I have to transfer the shampoo to another bottle so I may use it. I noticed that the other derma e shampoos are in softer plastic bottles. Please change the packing on the Scalp Relief Shampoo. Washing your hair should be an easy task not a frustrating one. Thank you!

Listen, unless you have the grip strength of a gorilla or are superhuman, you WILL struggle to get any product out. I cannot, for the life of me figure out why a company would design a product with such a bad container design. Environment aside (because it's clearly horrendous to use that much of excessive plastic for one bottle), it surely can't be economic to use more plastic than necessary. Do I like this product? Yes. But the wrist pain is almost not worth it.

Why would you market a product full of menthol to people with psoriasis and eczema?

Great product, terrible packaging. The plastic bottle is so hard that you can't squeeze the product out. I have to transfer the product into a different brand's softer plastic bottle in order to use it.

I've been using this shampoo for about a year now. It really cleanses and soothes the scalp without overdrying and the price is right. The cap/bottle is terrible, though. It is difficult to squeeze and get any product out of. If Derma E would change the bottle then this would get 5 stars from me.

If I could give this zero stars i would. i never write reviews but i feel people should know what this shampoo did to my head. I got it for dandruff...and it made my scalp super itchy afterward. I figured that was it doing its job, so I used it one more time a few days later, and the next day my scalp was in so much pain, super pink skin and sensitive to touch, i couldnt brush my hair cause it felt like i was scraping my skin. Then the next day i found a bunch of blisters or pimples on my scalp in the areas that were all red and tender. This stupid shampoo is going to cost me a very expensive doctors visit. BUYER BEWARE!

This shampoo works well, I like the price point, and it did what it was supposed to do. However, I feel like I can get a product that works just as well and not have to fight with the bottle! The packaging on this needs a serious upgrade. Bottle's impossible to squeeze, cap gets gunked up if you store it upside down, and over all it's just not worth the hassle. Shouldn't have to repackage a product to easily use it!
Cass from Seattle, WA
Please dknt buy its a waste since you cant even get any product out without putting it upside down and digging inside it with a finger or squeezing it so hard tour hands hurt.

I've been using this product for a year or so now, and it helps me a lot! I have a sensitive scalp, minor psoriasis, and am allergic to SLS. problems with yeast build up (now resolved thanks to this and Head and Shoulders). For me, it works better than Head and Shoulders at keeping my scalp happy for regular washing for prevention. I would cry if this was discontinued. About the bottle: I do dislike the bottle. 1) It's harder to squeeze than your average bottle 2) the cap gets gunky if you store it upside down, and then it gets so gunky it doesn't close 100%, then you store it upside down, and then you end up with puddles of shampoo. I just decant it into an old conditioner pump bottle, problem solved.

Oh boy, it makes me sad to say write this because I love Derma E. This shampoo is so frustrating! The bottle, as others have said, is so hard and I cannot squeeze anything out. I have to take the cap off entirely. Annoying! And unfortunately the product itself was a miss, too. I have been using it for a couple weeks now and it just dries our my hair and scalp even more. Itchy itchy. My scalp is sensitive for sure, so whatever is in this is not a match for that. So disappointed!

I know a lot of posters complained about the new bottle. that wasn't too much of an issue for me, I just would unscrew the cap and pour some in my hand. I have been using this consistently for the past 4 years or so, I'm not sure if the product changed with the new packaging or if I have changed but the washing experience and results are completely different than they were with prior bottles. pros: -does help keep flakes and scalp itching away - works well as a clarifying shampoo (you def want to use conditioner after this shampoo). Cons: - leaves hair greasy and stringy, while also causing hair to break off (all new with this bottle). I'd rather be itchy than bald.
