Most Helpful Positive Review amazing
I was hesitant to try this because even though a lot of Devacurl's products have decent reviews, they never seem to work for my wavy, frizzy hair. I decided to try it anyway and I'm so happy I did. My hair is wavy to begin with but lately my waves have been really flat and ridiculously frizzy. This helps with the frizz ones and restores my waves to what they used to look like. As another reviewer said, this separates the hair so it looks beachy-which I love. It didn't make my hair crunchy at all and that's always been a complaint of mine. I'm super impressed with this and I will continue to buy it when I run out.
Most Helpful Critical Review Not great for fine hair
I am a fan of DevaCurl's shampoo and conditioner so I thought I would try their styling product after I ran out of my usual Bumble & Bumble. I should have read the reviews - I have fine, wavy hair and like others with this texture I think this was too heavy. Left my hair lank and greasy. I love Ulta's generous return policy!

I have a lot of baby fine hair that is frizzy and wavy. It is a nightmare to try and fix...until now!! I use Deva Curl Cleaning Conditioner and One Condition Delight to clean and condition my hair. I figured out the magic of Wave Maker Touchable Texture Whip with my hair one day after going out on a walk with my girls. I wear a hat a lot of the time because my hair is SO hard to fix it is often not worth the frustration (and I have spent A LOT of time and money trying) that leads to results I'm not happy with anyway. DevaCurl has completely changed this!!! My hair has gone from a hopeless nightmare to a shiny mane of textured, cascading waves that takes very little effort. Here is my method incase it helps anyone else. It is unusual, but nothing "usual" has EVER worked on this fragile, frizzy, wavy mane: I let my hair air dry overnight because blowdryers and straighteners just lead to damage no matter how careful I am. In the morning I brush it out really well, put a hat on (the hat is very important because it smoothes the top without using any product which always make my hair flat or greasy) and into a ponytail, I take a travel size spray bottle (mixed with one pump of One Condition Delight and water filled to the top and shaken) and spray the ponytail until it is pretty wet but not drenched, I take the hat off and lightly spray the bottom half covered by the hat, not the top. I take Wave Maker and spread a dime size amount through the ponytail and lightly through the sprayed portion above it, then put the hat back on. Let everything air dry for 30-45 minutes, take the hat off, ponytail holder out, brush and part the way you like, then lightly spray again with the conditioner mixture. This method has taken me from wishing I could have a genie in a bottle to grant me new hair and feeling embarrassed by my hair everyday - to walking out the door with confidence and coming home smiling because I actually receive compliments on my hair now. Never ever thought this would happen. Thank you Deva Curl!!
It's all about how much you use

I have fine, high-density, highly porous 2a/b waves. I tend to get frizzy easily, especially in an arid climate. This product gives me soft, frizz-free waves that last all day, but only when used at the right time and in the right amount. I find that it works best when I apply it to very wet hair. My hair is down to my shoulder blades, and I apply just more than a pea-sized amount of product - any more than that makes my hair heavy and flat. I work it from my ears to the ends, not applying at the roots. I tend to air-dry my hair, but it works well with a diffuser on at the roots for a quicker dry and a little volume at the scalp. When the humidity is low, I also like to mix several pumps of Mister Right into this. I also find this product works for "day 2 hair" when I spritz a little water or Mister Right on it in the morning for a quick refresh.
I love this product

My hair is barely wavy - it's pretty straight overall with some slight wave to it. I put this product in my hair after towel trying and I have CURLY WAVES. This product is like magic, it practically creates waves out of nothing and it is one of my favorite products for effortless hair. it gives me a great easy alternative to heat styling that still looks good. This is definitely going to be my favorite product for summer.
I do not use the shampoo/conditioner that goes with this product. I originally tried the whole trial kit but this product on it's own is great. My hair is color treated so I needed a more nourishing shampoo/conditioner.
YESSS FOR FINE WAVY HAIR
Marybeth from Greensboro, NC
LOVE this product. I have extremely thick hair, but it's very fine. My hair loves this product! Give this one a try. I use it with Devacurl low-poo shampoo delight and one condition delight. I decided to drop some money because I've had mixed results from other brands. I get consistently good results for this product.
mama llama from Capitola, CA
I was so excited to try this because the girl at Ulta said it was the best. I tried it several times, and each time my hair looked flat with no body, and my waves were almost non existent despite scrunching and using the diffuser. Please don't waist your money.
Didn't work for me
DesertDiva from Phoenix, AZ
I tried wave maker multiple times in the past 3 years and have had no luck with the product in my hair. On its own my hair came out great for a few hours but then would start frizzing, become dry and waxy on day 1 hair. Day 2 hair I would try to refresh with the product but still left my hair feeling parched, not defined, and stiff. I cocktailed wave maker with a gel and would get hold but still have severe dryness, dullness, extreme knotting and hair loss on my wash day. It takes using a deep conditioner to get the tangles out which I don't have that problem with other products. I don't recommend this product if you need moisture and hold since it provides neither. Maybe it would work if I lived in a humid climate. It's nice to have options that work for you hair so if this doesn't I recommend the not your mothers curl talk line, amika curl corps, and ouidad.
Damaged my hair, ruined my curls!
Stephanie from Florida
I began the curly girl method about six months ago. I have spent most of my life not knowing how to manage my curls, in the process deeply damaging my hair. For the first time in my life, I loved my hair. It was beautiful and it made me feel like myself. And then, about a month ago, I began using this. Everything seemed good at first, but day after day, my hair seemed to be getting worse. Much drier, rougher, and significantly less dense. And then the news about DevaCurl broke, and I acknowledged my own hair problems, and I stopped using this product. The only DevaCurl product I have ever used. I have lots of split ends now, which I did not have prior to using this. After substituting this product out for another in my routine (and using lots of deep conditioning masks), my hair slowly seems to be getting some life back into it. As a whole, DevaCurl appears to be very dismissive about the entire situation and I no longer trust them as a company. Use products at your own risk, because DevaCurl doesn't care about how they impact you.
Tried it on 3 different ppl
VanessaC from Tampa
My hairs is thin and straight and it weighed down my hair. Oldest daughters hair is thick and curly and it helps settles it down some but by afternoon it frizzed up again. Younger daughters hair thick and wavy it worked well for a couple hours, her hair felt like it had heavy moose on it and chucked up into sections.
Okay, this is what I've been looking for.

I know DevaCurl has some bad publicity right now regarding the Lo-Poo/No-Poo line, but I don't use those products & so I feel confident reviewing their styling products. There are 2 that Im using (& liking) - & the Wave Maker is one! I scrunch in a small amount to soaking wet hair (I later add in the B'Leave-In Miracle Curl Plumper). Its this combination that makes for great hair days (on wash day & between washes)! I have fine, thin, 2B-2C waves/curls. I strive for volume above all, but need a combination of a nice spring-y & bouncy curl pattern with hold but without being crunchy or flat at the roots (this is a difficult feat but imperative). I look for products that will give all of this without the need to rewash for at least 3 days. Honestly I'm sorry I waited so long to try their styling products - I air dry about 85%, next I spray IGK Next Level Nordic Cotton heat activated volume spray- BUT ONLY on the roots, then I diffuse the rest of the way - giving INCREDIBLE VOLUME that I can't get any other way. I do use a little finishing spray (& I realize that this can create frizz, but I really need it to maintain the volume I just got from the IGK spray). I finally found a styling regimen that I'll stick with for a while! :)

It's working my waves
Lexie from Tennessee
I'm still learning how best to use this, so I will update this in the future:
This nicely fragranced cream distributes evenly, dries quickly and enhances my soft curls and waves, but it doesn't last all day. After 4+ hours I start to droop. I need to find the right setting spray to go with it
I wanted to like it
Outofrange from Albuquerque NM
Wave maker is loved by so many people and I was excited to try it but I was really let down. It did nothing for my curls/waves. They actually seemed less bouncy and tired looking. Sooooooo disappointing. I will stick with cheaper but better drugstore products.
Reegyrl from Texas
I hardly ever leave reviews but this product is truly amazing!! I have chemically straightened hair and this product gave me the most beautiful beachy waves!! It actually made the back of my hair, which is a lot shorter, extra curly!!! I will be trying more of their products now!!
Finally, products for wavy-haired gals that do the trick!
Nani from NV
I recently cut my hair pretty short, and was worried about how it would look naturally after the salon products from my stylist wore off. I have wavy hair that gets really frizzy. My stylist suggested Debacurl and its products, and I am really glad I decided to try them out! I used their Wave Maker product after I washed my hair, and out it air dry. It resulted in defined waves throughout my hair, leaving many of my colleagues to wonder if it was natural or self-styled! Looking forward to trying out the rest of their line
Best smelling hair product out there
xtina from East Lyme
This is amazing! I love the smell and everything it does. It keeps my hair soft, not weighed down, have volume, and minimal frizz. It is a thick whip for your hair and applies nicely when your hair is wet. I get compliments saying my hair smells like candy or pineapples lol. It's the best styler I've used and I can't try anything else!
wavytayyy from Alabama
I have 2b-3a hair. I use this after a leave in and before gel. It has made a noticeable difference in the definition of my waves. It doesn't weigh my hair down at all. My mom, who has color treated hair with a similar curl pattern, loves it too.
HG styling product for fine 2c 3a hair
Anya from Seattle
I have a mix of 3a curls and 2c waves (with some nearly straight sections at the nape). It's fine, very soft and not very thick. Most styling products either make it crunchy despite me furiously scrunching out the crunch, or weigh it down. The Wavemaker cream does none of these things. It just kind of disappears into my hair, leaving the curls and waves defined, soft, shiny and frizz-free. I think I use more than the directions recommend for shoulder-length hair that's not particularly thick. I can see how this product wouldn't work well for someone who needs more hold, or maybe someone with a lot of hair. If your hair sounds like mine, though, definitely give it a try! I'm going to be buying Wavemaker for as long as it's made.
Leave in replacement during winter
Cassie G from Denver, CO
I love this stuff as a replacement for my leave-in during the winter months because it has no humectants in it. I live in Colorado where winters are really dry, so humectants like glycerin pull all the moisture from my hair into the atmosphere. Also works great as a 3rd day refresher. I just take a dime sized amount, spread over my palms, and then work through sections of my dry hair. I then spray a light mist of water over my hair and scrunch away for curls that last through day 5. Highly recommend. Great scent too.
Soft touchable curles

I will continue to use this product
Lp from Albuquerque
I'll start buying on line directly if possible. ultra NEVER has the advertised give away and the staff at cottonwood store are snooty and rude. I was told this time that the entire store only received 2 of the promotional items. Love the product. I'll seek other avenues to get it
Not for me
D from TX
I'm currently on the hunt for the right products to nurse back the curl in my hair especially on the top layer. This product practically straightened it but that could be my curl type or the condition of my hair. I tried apply as instructed and then again without the smoothing down and only crunching. Same straightening result.
Gigi from Florida
Love it in my hair . Smells great too !
Didn't work for me
Jennifer from Wisconsin
I had high hopes, but this product did nearly nothing for my curls. I followed the directions and used the proper amount. If it did anything it made my hair less bouncy and more weighed down. An expensive lesson. I've given it to my daughter who has much curlier hair than mine, I hope it does something for her.
New staple in my shower!
Steph from Rancho Santa Margarita CA
I have combo 1c 2a hair which is extremely thick and fine, minimal frizz but hard to keep my curl/wave definition. I gently smoothed and scrunched this through my hair when it was soaking wet in the shower then followed up with the ultra defining gel and was SHOCKED at the results when it dried. A new staple of mine and I'll be fully dedicating to these products once I run out of my samples! For reference I use pacifica's Pineapple curls shampoo and conditioner in combination with these products:)
Best Cream Product
Alison from Overland Park, KS
I don't have enough good things to say about Wave Maker. I was hesitant to try this because I have 3a curls but also some 2c waves so I didn't know if this would work out for me. When people say that this is just for wavy hair that is a lie. This gives my hair great definition without weighing it down. I found that the styling cream and the super cream both weighed my hair down so I was super pumped that wave maker works for me.
