I've been after a new foundation ever since my old go-to foundation's formula was changed and no longer did the trick. I tried SMITH & CULT Veiled Threat after seeing so many positive reviews. Trying a new foundation is always a challenge for me because I'm very fair and cool toned (think vampire). With that said, after I purchased it, I almost returned it. Most of the time, I use a mattifying primer for long adherence and to ward off any shine that might show up after several hours. The first time I used this foundation, I used it over a mattifying primer. This was a mistake as it made my face appear dry and dull. I remember being confused because the foundation is very creamy when you first put it on. Even though this foundation is supposed to be a semi/demi matte finish, it will absorb into your skin and become very matte after about 30 minutes. I also used to use translucent setting powder with my old foundation but in this case, it only compounded the dry and dull effect even more.
The trick with this foundation is to use a *moisturizing or non-matte primer* and *no setting powder*! I'm not oily but if you are, you could probably get away with just using a mattifying setting spray and be good to go. As far as pores go, if you have large pores, just use your pore minimalizing product of choice over your problem areas, but go easy. This foundation does have a blurring effect so you shouldn't need too much of your pore product.
I really like the creaminess of this foundation. It makes it very easy to blend into the skin. I've applied it now with fingers, sponge, and brush. I like fingers and sponge, but a brush will work too. It really does look like your skin and not foundation.
Finally, I was impressed with their color selection. There's something for everyone. Also, for the first time in my life, I didn't have to go with the absolute lightest cool shade! It's hard to imagine someone being paler than me, but there you go!
Most Helpful Critical Review Depends on your skin type
I was initially so excited about this foundation because it MATCHED me. I am extremely fair and cool toned. It's hard to find a foundation that is fair enough and doesn't have a yellow hue. This worked. It lasted all day, looked beautiful, and didn't break up in my t zone like most foundations do. Then I got this nasty breakout! And it started to heal as soon as I stopped using this. I have VERY oily skin, and I am prone to acne, so I do have to be careful. Usually the oils in my skin strip foundation off my t zone. This one wasn't like that, and I think it's because it is FULL of dimethicone. I am not here to make a broad statement about dimethicone in cosmetics, but I think it was too much for my oily skin. It acts as a barrier, sitting on your skin all day. This can trap oil, sweat, bacteria, and prevent your skin from turning over dead cells throughout the day. I have used other products with dimethicone and been okay, but this is A LOT of it, and because of that, I don't think it's a good oily skin foundation. Loved everything else about it for normal/dry skin.

I love this foundation

I bought this on clearance when it was incredibly cheap because, why not? I'm always looking for a great foundation. Goes on lovely and creamy, dries semi-mart. Medium coverage. I have very fair skin with yellow undertones and 140 was a good match for me. Ironically, now that I've discovered this, I hope Ulta isn't getting rid of it.

I think its a beautiful natural to soft matte finish and medium coverage! def will buy again! downsides are that its thin so I need 3 pumps for my face and neck. also doesn't do anything for the pores which isn't a big deal to me but might be to other people. also wish packaging was just a little nicer but no big deal

Undertones Off For My Neutral/ Golden Dark Skin
CeeCeeR from Nashville
I tried 420... Too light, but perfect undertones. I don't even know if 430 or 440 are too dark because they are just orange. It seriously looks like orange paint on my face. Everything darker is described with super red undertones, so I'm out of luck unless I want to sport an orange face.
Coverage is nice. Dries down matte. There's some transfer, but I did the test without primer, powder, or setting spray.
My go-to foundation

This foundation is so flawless on the skin! It makes my other (now least) favorite foundation (Estée Lauder Doubke Wear) look not so great in comparison. It works great with almost any primer that the double wear didn't. It has medium coverage but I spot conceal any blemishes I need covering. It's also light-weight and I don't feel like I HAVE to wash my face after wearing it for a few hours, but with double wear I could feel it on my skin and wanted to wash it off after two hours. I bought the foundation in last year's 21 days of beauty sale and have been in love ever since. I highly recommend!
P.s. I have combo skin and a more oily t-zone and I never have problems with this foundation in the t-zone area.
Soooo thin 🥴

I bought this because- I mean- look at the sale price! I bought two shades ( I'm an African American woman, medium/ deep aka chestnut tone) just in case, one more neutral undertones the other more golden undertones. The bottle was average, one of the pumps gets stuck. The foundation goes on smooth ( I use a damp beauty blender) but it dries ASHY and with Little coverage.

I absolutely love this foundation and how it makes my skin look, it has a soft airbrush finish. I will definitely purchase more while it's still on sale I highly recommend this foundation you won't be disappointed!

I purchased this one a whim because it was on sale and I was happy I did. This foundation is light, and medium to full coverage. I loved the finish and think of you have normal to dry skin you will enjoy this. The shade range is okay and the undertone is true to description. I don't know why more people don't talk about this, but I look forward to trying more from this brand

I needed a darker shade for the summer. I purchased this foundation because it was on sale. The products lasts all day and there's little transfer. I like the coverage and how it does not accentuate my pores.
Best Foundation EVER
Gracie1245 from Ohio
I have a drawer full of foundations, and not one measures up to this. At 43, I've tried what feels like hundreds. It matches well, and almost completely evens out my skin tone- which says a lot considering I have rosacea. I get compliments on my skin all the time, and no one ever guesses that I'm beet red under this. A really small amount covers my whole face, and still looks near perfect at the end of a long day. I've recommended it to friends and family several times. Best ever!

Blended out beautifully very skin like

Picked this up because it was on sale so I figured "why not?". I prepped and primed as usual and I can see a difference. I loved it!! Definitely blurring. Does not feel heavy. I even ordered myself another bottle.
P.S. I have dry 43 year old skin.

I was so excited to try this. I wore it once so far....I feel like it doesn't stay on at all. The "blurring" does happen, my pores were invisible. This foundation is not really build able, I tried adding my everyday bronzer and blush and it didn't blend well, it looked terrible. Overall, it might be good to wear for a natural day with just some foundation and mascara. Other then that, I was disappointed.

I have oily skin and this foundation felt heavy on my face, as if I had applied some type of heavy oil. It creased on my eyelids and under my eyes. I would not recommend this foundation for oily skin. I could not wait to get off from work to remove this gunk from my face!
Why aren't more people talking about this?
Tiesh from Texas
I grabbed this foundation just to try as it was about the same price as my go to drugstore foundation and now I am cursing myself because I love this so much! I have tried so many foundations the past couple months and this one has beat them all hands down. This reminds me of a lighter, more natural looking Estee Lauder double-wear. It smells a bit like paint and is more liquid than creamy. I am 41 with some light wrinkles and enormous pores and this doesnt emphasize and delivers on the blurring that so many products promise but never deliver. This just looks so natural on the skin, the most skin like foundation I've tried. Its just gorgeous! The coverage is great, I think I used two pumps for my big head then one additional pump just to get more coverage in my red areas. It doesn't look this or cakey at all.
I would say though that the colors are a bit off. I have more neutral boarding on cool tone and can pull off most neutrals (except tarte's yellow mess of foundations) and wear Fenty 185, Maybelline Superstay 125, or Revlon Colorstay in 285. I grabbed this in two shades, 180 which is a light cool, and 240 which is a light/medium "neutral". The 240 was the right depth but it was way too yellow. 180 was a great match undertone wise and looked a lot more neutral than cool but just a tad too light. If you are a true neutral, i might suggest ordering a cool if you dont want to be yellow. I know I will be purchasing this again even at full price its just that good!!!

I've never heard of this brand and I'm kicking myself for discovering it so darn late. It's a beautiful foundation and I have been really enjoying it. I have oily/normal skin; my Tzone is my problematic area, especially my nose (foundations tend to break apart) however, with this foundation I have less breakage and if I use an eye primer on my nose then it doesn't break apart anymore- so happy an Ulta associate taught me this trick! It works fabulously. Highly recommend 10/10 💛

I have really oily skin and this looked so pretty. It's full coverage and makes my skin appear smoother.
Sweetonduke from Narrows, Virginia
I absolutely love this as a half day wear foundation. The coverage is very build able and looks absolutely flawless on top of primed skin. I bought this on sale and it was totally worth it. I alternate between Smith and Cult and Estee Lauder (my go to). If you want a foundation that lasts 10 plus hours this isn't for you. But for a half day's worth of great looking makeup this is it.
