Most Helpful Positive Review Good for a double cleanser
I use this as a first step in a double cleansing system. I previously was using grapeseed oil, but it just doesn't work well on waterproof makeup and I was tired of all the tugging involved with wiping off oils. I wanted something that would dissolve into water and found this. It successfully gets all my makeup off without any need for scrubbing, but definitely be patient if you're like me and cake on the mascara. The purpose is to dissolve the mascara with the balm, so just add and gently keep rubbing to allow it to get in there and take the mascara off. My skin is looking more radiant (I've been using it about a week now) and I'm happy I started using this.
One note, for people with acne prone skin: I noticed after washing with the balm my face felt amazing (not sticky or anything) so I tested what would happen if I didn't follow up with my salicylic acid cleanser and I broke out the next day (nothing too detrimental, a few blemishes here and there). But definitely follow up with a second washing step if you're breakout prone and oily like me. I have combination skin, so I actually just use the second cleanse to wash my oily areas and leave the dry areas (like my cheeks) alone.
Most Helpful Critical Review orange sting
The smell is quite pleasant and goes on okay. Other than that, it's a no go. I wear a full face of makeup daily so I need something to get it all off without too much hassle. I don't have sensitive skin, however it is extremely oily. This smells like something in the orange family, it's really pleasant. It comes with a small spatula to help you scoop out the product. The product is white, and melts easily once its in your hands and you're rubbing it on your skin. But when you're rubbing it on your skin, you discover it's not a smooth balm. It's got these weird white bits in it that don't dissolve. It takes my face makeup off fine, but my eye makeup is a bit more tedious. It can't take off my mascara to save my life. I don't notice any weird residue, it washes off fine. But I wear a lot of eyeshadow, and it has no problem removing that, but my mascara is an issue. And once I'm removing my eye makeup I notice it stings! And then I can't keep my eyes open and I'm frantically washing it out of my eyes and then I have to wash my eyes with something else like face wash to get the sting to stop. Never before has a product done that, I don't have sensitive anything so I don't understand.

Absolutely LOVE this stuff. I've started double cleansing in the evening and use this first to remove any make up and then follow up with another cleanser. It goes on easily and does a great job at removing everything, especially mascara. It also includes a tiny spoon so you're not digging your fingers into the jar, i love that. I never want to be without this product!
I would buy and recommend this product.

very creamy and leaves your skin silky soft

My skin is so dry in the winter that I used to get dry patches that would sometimes bleed. I use this with the hydrating night creme, and I haven't had a problem. My skin looks hydrated and nice.
Universal Cleansing Balm

I was very excited to try this but I feel like it is more cumbersome to use then helpful. I dont know how I feel about the ointment like consistency and massaging it in. I feel like a regular cleanser is best for me. Did not cause irritation and was relatively easy to remove. Didn't blow me out of the water but will continue to use since I got two.

Absolutely love this for removing makeup. It works really well on eye makeup and feels gentle. I use it as step one in a double cleanse routine. It does have some grain too it but they are mild.

I was a huge fan of the nourishing rose cleansing oil, which has been discontinued. I decided to try this universal cleansing balm. After using it for a couple of weeks, I can't rave about it. There's nothing wrong with it, I just don't enjoy it as much as my discontinued favorite. I'll keep checking around to find one I really like again.
This stuff is magic!

This is the first cleansing balm I've ever used and I absolutely love it! The texture is beautiful. It melts on contact with the warmth of your skin and makes it so easy to remove makeup. I double cleanse to make sure all excess oils are removed too, but I never see anything left behind after I rinse off this product. It's wonderful and makes me excited to put on makeup because it's so much fun to remove now! The only con is that the essential oils could be irritating for people with sensitive skin, but they don't bother my skin. Highly recommend!!
I SWEAR by this stuff.
Heather from Washington
This cleansing balm is AMAZING and you have to get it. It hydrates and completely melts your makeup on its own while lightly exfoliating at the same time. You only need a dime size amount and it goes a long way. I use this everyday and I've hardly made a dent in it. It is going to last forever.
Saved my dry skin
Rachelizabeth from Tucson, AZ
I recently ran out of my facial moisturizer and my skin became a hot mess, dry patches, redness and itching. My regular cleanser started burning my face and I came to the realization that I should switch cleansers as my skin has changed in my 30s. Asked one of the ladies at Ulta for a recommendation and she recommended this... was a bit apprehensive because it's an oil cleanser. Decided it was probably a good product to try, came home, tried it and fell in love. This stuff melts all my makeup off, helped soften the flakey patches of skin and in the week I've used it my skin has never looked better! I now have glowing skin that is well moisturized and no redness. It's a great price and works wonders. I recommend wiping your face clean with a warm washcloth otherwise your face may feel greasy afterwards.

I absolutely love this product! At first I was just using it in the morning. But now I'm using it to take off my make up at night too. I don't even need to use an additional cleanser after using it to take off my make up. All the residue is gone and it feels clean without feeling dry! It did take some adjustment. I was used to my old cleanser which made my skin feel clean but also dry. With this I feel clean but not like my skin needs a big glass of water.
Worth every dollar!

First this smells amazing! The packaging makes it so easy to use and even comes with a spatula. This amazing balm will take off anything without stripping ur skin or leaving that nasty oily residue. The price is great for what your receiving. This can last along time!

I really like the smell! I'm finding it also works well as a cleanser for my dry skin!
Holy grail for me!
Riah from Minnesota
I love it! It even made Colourpop's glitter gels come off easily. I was a little bit light around my eye area so there was a bit of staining from my bright color choices but I think as I continue to use this I'll be less trepidatious around my eyes.
It is alright

So after having tried a different cleansing balm that I really liked, I wanted to try something else to see what else I could find that I liked. While this isn't a bad cleanser there are things I personally don't like. I feel like it is too oily and not a fan of, for lack of a better term, chunks in it. It also, leaves a thick film on my skin sometimes. I would use it again if I needed to save money though cause it isn't a bad product. Just not my favorite.
Not as advertised
Jaime from Arizona
This balm leaves my skin a bit irritated, and I think that's because it has some sort of small exfoliating beads in it. Maybe from the Shea butter. I wouldn't have bought this product if I had known it had little grains/beads in it. It does a good job removing all my makeup at least.
shelbs from Minnesota
This has a nice smell (like REAL orange essential oil) and it's good and thick. Does take off eye makeup well. It's not any better than plain grapeseed oil, so I probably won't repurchase.
Little tiny beads

I don't like the unexpected tiny sugar like things in it and leaves weird feeling on my face
Wonderful, didn't even bother my eyes!

I use two different types of mascaras from essence that are not waterproof, but they are hard to get off my lashes. I normally have to soak two cotton pads in micellar water and chill for a few minutes while they soak and do their thing. I used this and gently rubbed (not tugged or pulled) at my lashes and the mascara did melt off! It wasn't instantaneous, but it was definitely quicker than the micellar water! It felt really great on my skin, too. I wiped it off with a damp cloth and washed with my cerave foaming cleanser and my skin was really clean. NO makeup residue whatsoever and I had on a FULL FACE.
Derma E includes little spatulas in their products with jars and I'm a fan of it. It really helps not to contaminate the balm. I also really like Derma E as a brand in general. I'm very pleased this worked out so well!

I have been in search for a polyethylene-free cleansing balm at a reasonable price-point that I really like. So far, the jury is still out and I might have to settle for polyethylene if I don't want to spend $30+ on a cleansing balm. I did like this better than the Banila Co. original as it was definitely better at taking off makeup (though I know another Banila Co one has worked better than the original pink formula). The scent also didn't bother me. I did think the granules in the formula was odd, but also didn't bother me either. It did not really emulsify well. It wasn't bad, but I didn't love it. Pretty middle of the road so I didn't think there was anything special about it.
Gets the job done, but has its drawbacks
Mary Katherine from Phoenix, AZ
The actual cleansing balm is pretty good. I like the smell, and it removes makeup easily. I agree with reviewers who say it leaves a film behind after rinsing it off, but I don't mind because I always double cleanse (use another cleanser after removing makeup).
My issue with this product is the packaging. I'm not sure how the product is supposed to come, but mine has never been a solid balm. It arrived completely melted (to be expected in the hot area where I live), and it never fully solidified. Because of this, the product always seems to leak out onto the outside of the jar and on my counter. It's very frustrating, as I have wiped it down multiple times now.
Burns my eyes
Neecee from Austin
This cleansing balm is great at breaking down oil and makeup. But that's about it.
I use waterproof mascara and even though it breaks it down when the product gets into your eyes it burns...a lot.
I'm going to stick with my Clinique cleansing balm. It costs more but wasn't aggravating to my skin or eyes.
Not for me
Crystal O. from Texas
Melts make-up? Yeah sure. But it does not emulsify enough to be rinsed off with water. Leaves a major film on my face. I have to wipe off with a wet Makeup Eraser. Plus the scent is strong and not for me. I tried to use it up, but just can't.
Megmegs from Albuquerque, NM
This is a really nice cleansing balm, it has a wonderful smell and is nice and thick. It works great as the first step in a double cleanse and a little goes a long way. I don't wear eye makeup so I can't review that but my skin feels so soft and clean after using.
Only way to remove makeup
Daniela from Miami
Pretty much the only thing I recommend ever using to remove makeup. Takes off 95% of my makeup. I use micellar water for the rest! Absolutely amazing
I would buy this again
Lchurchi from Columbus, OH
I really like this product. It is cheaper than most cleansing balms. There is a lot of product and you only need a dime size to remove all your makeup, sunscreen and waterproof makeup. It is hydrating and the ingredients are amazing!!
