My dermatologist recommended this for scalp dermatitis in the early 1990's. For decades I have had my hair colored every 4 weeks (turned gray at 22) & I would get small flaky irritated spots, mostly around the hairline & temples. Using this serum a couple times a week would clear it up. Fast forward 35 years & I have developed psoriasis with one patch (so far, thank u!) on my scalp & tho the serum can't rid me of it, it does calm it, making less inflamed. I have thick hair. I divide my washed wet hair first to the spot, then put a nickel size amount on one finger & work thoroughly into & around the spot. A little goes a long way, & I get as little as possible on my hair - it is a "scalp" product. A couple times a week works well for me. The smell isn't great but the trade off is worth it.
My sister and I have had very itchy and flaky scalps lately. We were recommended this product and it did nothing for us. The product seemed as if it was hard to get onto your scalp and rub it in. For me personally, I felt that I had to use A LOT to make it seem like it was going on the scalp. When it was in our scalps, it just was greasy due to the amount that needed to be put on. Very unhappy because I've heard such great things about it.

Please restock this item. It's the only thing that has worked for my scalp.

This is the only OTC product (NOT a prescription) that relieves dry, itchy scalp for a few days. In the winter, I use it about once a week. Cheaper than going to a dermatologist.

The bad reviews for this are people not using it correctly. Put it on at night. It's a serum that you put on your scalp - Of course it's going to leave residue/oil/moisture! When you wake up if you still have moisture blow dry it a bit. This has worked wonders for my dermatitis and itchy scalp when all other dandruff shampoos failed.

Easy to use and benefits driven although it's a bit pricey, I've purchased my second bottle.

Relieved my scalp but was super gooey and made my hair so greasy right away. Returned after two uses because of this.

Struggling with itchy scalp and if I apply this on my scalp at anytime during the day, the itching disappears immediately! And surprisingly, it does not make my scalp greasy.

I developed seborrheic dermatitis when I was 37 years old. My scalp has been a nightmare since. The only thing that helps my condition is the Nioxin Scalp Recovery line of products. This serum gives immediate relief to the itching on my scalp. I only gave it 4 stars because, as others have noted, it is very heavy, a bit difficult to get on target areas, and makes my hair look greasy. That being said, I wouldn't use anything else. So, as a compromise, I use it at night and before showers. If you're looking for an effective solution to scalp itch and flakes, give this a shot. But try it for the first time on a day or night you'll be home, in case you get similar unsightly results.

I have used many products in the past with little to no relief. This product worked instantly and better than anything I have tried in the past. However, the product was a bit heavy on my hair. My scalp and ends are very dry but my roots have a tendency to get oily and this amplified that a bit. I would still recommend it as I have been so desperate for relief of my dry, itchy scalp.

I've different lines of Nioxin. I thought it was like a oil serum, but it is a lotion type serum. It's not greasy and a little goes a long way. My scalp is extremely dry and itchy to the point that it would scab up with sores. I will admit when I first got it, I didn't use it cuz it was extremely difficult to put on my scalp. But this past week, I started putting the serum on my finger and rub it on my scalp as if I'm piling my scalp and then massage my whole head and it's done wonders. Not one flake in site and it's going on over a week. Usually by day 2 of me washing my hair it's already showing signs of flake. I have jet black hair so you could see it really good. It is pricey but like I said, a little goes a long way and I don't use it everyday, maybe 2-3 times a week.

I have only been using this product for a week and I already see a huge difference. I have a lot of bumps on my head from eczema and I always pick at them and they would scab up...and the cycle would continue. I use this at night before I go to bed and shower the next morning and apply it again to my damp hair. It does not make my hair greasy once its blown dryed. My scalp bumps and sores are already starting to go away.

My daughter has extremely flaky scalp in the winter, this keeps her flakes free with her sensitive scalp. She has had this problem for many years, and this product is the answer!

Over the yt? E are, I have had more are problems reacting to hair products, cause g flaky skin. Moving to TN from England has exacerbated the issue, presumably due to the heat. My husband's hairstylist recommended this to him for me, as he was telling her how it was driving me mad. I found instant relief with this product. I have found no greasiness and use the whole system (shampoo, conditioner and scalp treatment). Iuse the shampoo and co mentioned like normal, let myh hair dry a bit, place a small amount of the scalp treatment onto the worst areas (all along my parting and my crown) then massage in and brush. I rarely dry myh hair, so leave it to and dry.

I moved to the desert in 2009 and began having lots of scalp issues. My hair stylist turned me on to Nioxin Scalp Recovery kit - and it worked! I had tried everything I could get without a prescription. I read the previous comments and have to say to see the benefits, you need to use the whole system! Once your issue is under control, you can omit/substitute the conditioner (at least for me it wasn't a critical variable in overall effectiveness). I've tried taking breaks and using other products to experiment, and my scalp issues only came back. I noticed other reviewers say it left their scalp or hair too greasy. This is what I do: I wash with the Nioxin shampoo, use conditioner (Nioxin or other), then towel dry my hair. I comb it out, then apply very small amounts (and I mean tiny - like drops) of the serum to the problem areas on my scalp and rub it in. I then blow dry my hair. The areas with the serum don't dry completely, and that's ok because it needs to soak in. I only do this once per day (I shower in the evening). If I find I have a re-occurring itch somewhere, I just apply a drop to that spot and let it absorb and I'm fine. I can go 2 - 3 days between shampoos/applications, and my scalp is totally happy. Note: Washing hair daily is NOT good for your scalp! It will exacerbate any issue you have - dry or oily. In summary, this stuff is so effective that when I am almost out, a little part of me panics until it's replaced. No burning, itchy scalp! No flakes!

Horrible product . Made the dry scalp worse

I have really bad dry scalp and have tried several different shampoos. This product is unique because it is almost a lotion for me scalp. It helps with the itching and I have noticed less flakes. The only con is the price is steep.
